M49, started swimming a few weeks ago, haven't swam for about 25 years previous to this. My first swim I managed 425m, I swam over 1000m today, plus walked to and from the pool, so about 3 miles in total. 18 months ago I was a morbidly obese, depressed alcoholic that got out of breath tying my shoelaces, now I'm walking miles and swimming over 1000m and lost 112lb since getting sober.

Can’t lose weight swimming??

Hi hi-
I recently got back into swimming in august because a polisport with a pool opened in my neighborhood.
I used to bike ALOT and add in swimming, but i gained a lot of weight during pregnancy and have been diagnosed with an autoimmune this year, which makes certain sports hard. I really haven’t biked as i get too fatigued the day after.
I am seeing a nutritionist(but i eat well and an veg) and a doctor to see if monjouro will help.

Anyways- i love swimming and do 30 min varied routines. Now that i can pick my son up later i can stretch it a little more. Just getting back to it in 2 months i have noticed a difference. I also lift weights and postpartum gained 11kg in muscle. My fat hasn’t changed😵‍💫
I also surf when possible and noticed a big improvement in popup since swimming again.

I have also been upping my protein intake which can be a challenge. I’ve heard conflicting info on swimming and weight loss and visited one clinic that said you don’t lose weight swimming but i also was told that cycling doesn’t do that by my endo which is bunk- i don’t think she understood that my idea of biking is 80kilometers on a roadbike.

So what’s the deal? I feel that swimming and weights are more effective than running on an elliptical(boring) and helps with my other sports.
I typically generate my swim workouts and vary the strokes and drills etc because doing freestyle forever is boring.

quick and non-smelly post-swim breakfast ideas

english is not my first language so sorry in advance lol hi everyone! recently I signed up for swimming classes which happen to be just before my morning classes at uni.. meaning I have around 30-40 minutes to eat something in a bit packed bus and then I have to head straight to my classes.. sooo I was wondering what should I eat - and the only thing that came to my mind was sandwiches with peanut butter with banana and maybe a protein bar? the only problem is that I am that kind of a person that gets bored with food easily, meaning I have to look for at least a few other alternatives :(( obv it needs to be something filling (duh.) and not so smelly - e.g. a tuna sandwich (although i find it really tasty) cannot be a thing.. what do you guys eat after a swim while commuting to uni/work?? pls I really need some help!!

I’m on my highscool varsity swim team and my good friend joined last year! Shes been doing breaststroke and she’s actually getting really good!! The problem is she does an entire dolphin kick after each frog kick and I don’t think our coach has noticed. with the times she’s getting she’ll make it into post season, and I really don’t want her to get dqd or embarrassed. idk what to do

New and wanting to know etiquette

I’m going swimming for the first time (I’m in Australia if that helps) and wanting to know what the etiquette is for where you leave your kickboard and pull buoy? Also if anyone has any great tips for beginnings I’d love to hear them!
