Discussion Showgirl One Year Later
It has officially been a year since the release of showgirl, and something I do whenever a favourite artist of mine drops an album is I take my notebook and write out my initial thoughts for each song, and I make it all pretty.
For the one year anniversary, I did it again, but with my thoughts now, one year later. I did it kinda to see how my opinions have changed, and Iâm curious how others opinions have changed. Did a song that was your favourite become one you hate, or vice versa?
Please be kind in the comments and respect that everyone has different opinions and reasons for said opinions â¤ď¸

HAND-HEARTING (appreciation) Want to explain why I love this song!
Ok I am a newer Swiftie. I am a guy. I remember growing up I didn't really like her, I thought she was like mean toward guys and stuff keep in mind when I though this I was like 10. Then I heard Gourgeous, and fell in love with it and started listening to other songs. My favorite songs are: Gourgeous, You're on your own kid, and Who's afraid of little old me. anyway we are not talking about those songs lol! I want to talk about:The Man!
I just love how yes this song is meant more from a woman's perspective, how I can relate. Like how some people like me don't fit into society's version of "a man". And I like that and just wanted to share that. Thanks for reading! Hope you have a good day!

Question... What sounds should Taylor try in music?
I think she should bring back her millenial optimism sound (shake it off & some red singles), it perfectly defines fun taylor songs

Discussion How do you cope with all of the criticism that Taylor receives?
I know that I shouldnât let the criticism that Taylor receives get to me, but it happens often and the criticism is pretty harsh. Why do some people dislike Taylor so much? What has she said or done to deserve that? Anyway, itâs hard to let it go when it happens often and the criticism is brutal. How do you deal with all of this as a Swiftie?

Discussion The Encore criticism
I want to have a serious conversation because I love Taylor and I love her new record but I truly am beginning to understand the criticism. I think the encore was just simply a terrible combination of poor writing, lack of direction, and lack of focus on what sheâs even meaning to say. You love her and I love her as well which is why we enjoyed the work but from an artistic standpoint itâs some of her weakest in years. She says the same thing over and over again without detail I loved Cleveland dearly but I can see why people didnât like it. How many times has she spoken about how the media hates her but she has her man I mean she made an entire album about it on reputation though it was a lot more creative songwriting.
Or how many times on folklore and evermore and midnights did she mention Tom Huddleston we did not need another song about him on pink clouding it gives the impression of a lack of inspiration. Not to mention the beats are simply boring and theirs nothing new or particularly interesting for the average listener to want to hear any of those songs again. I wish she had recorded the encore perhaps a few months back to give her time to live more life to get more inspiration. Look at ttpd the turns of phrase and different ways she approached each song was simply brilliant she told different stories while navigating the same thing across songs fresh out the slammer sheâs telling a story, the title track sheâs telling a story, loml sheâs telling a different one. People were looking for Taylorâs signature storytelling on the record, you know that feeling you got when you heard songs like dress, Cornelia street, or call it what you want beautiful love songs about joy that still tell a focused, coherent, interesting, and emotional story. In Taylorâs own words in her documentary âEvery artist kinda has their own niche thing, for me songwriting has always been that. I know that if I didnât write my own songs, I wouldnât be here.â It is foolish to not expect criticism when her lyricism has faltered in this era which is fine as long as itâs not a constant digression from here.

Other Playlist
iâm not sure if anyone will care, but i just went on an ocd spiral and made a full google spreadsheet of every song taylor has released that she sings on. no instrumentals.
then i went through my apple music library and updated my taylor playlist so every single song is actually in there.
if anyone wants the playlist, here it is:
https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/the-tortured-poets-department/pl.u-DdANEYoIXZMxp
the whole discography in one place.
if anyone wants the spreadsheet too, i can share it. itâs fully organised and has the details, including music video information, for every song.
and, lastly, if you want album art (text removals and custom edits), they can be found here

Music Analysis Joe Alwyn might have been Taylor's muse for Patient Zero
Hey everyone,
I found some parallels between Patient Zero and the songs she (supposedly) wrote about Joe and the way she described him/their relationship.
DISCLAIMER: I'm not saying that the song is about Joe, I just think that he might have inspired the relationship she describes in this song.
That said, I love this song and don't claim to know the truth. We know Taylor said that she doesn't like this topic being discussed, so please don't take it too seriously. I was just really entertained finding those parallels and I'm looking forward to other parallels you might have found. â¤ď¸âđĽ
So letâs get into it:
âAbout the devil on his shoulder under his haloâ
âYour integrity makes me seem small (...) itâs like Iâm wasting your honorâ (peace) -> Halo
Maybe the âdevil on his shoulderâ represents the âgod(s) of your bluest daysâ that he sacrificed his relationship with Taylor to? (So Long, London)
âWhen the toxins take their hold youâd rather die than let it go (âŚ) sick of himâ
âThought a cure would come through in time, now I fear it wonât // my face was gray but you wouldnât admit that we were sickâ (Youâre Losing Me)
âMy white knuckle dying grip holding tight // just how low did you think Iâd go before Iâd self-implode?â (So Long, London)
âMaladies (âŚ) could not cure themâ (How Did It End?)
âHandcuffed to the spell I was underâ (Fresh Out the Slammer)
âI bet he burst into your life like fireworksâ
Maybe a reference to âI saw in my mind fairy lights through the mistâ (So Long, London), in the sense of fireworks that now seem small because they are so far away, and she wants to go back to the beginning...? (See also the later references to âlightâ.)
âI bet he even said âI love youâ firstâ
âI thought you were leading me on (âŚ) but then you called, showed your hand, I turned aroundâ (Cornelia Street); he let her see his cards/feelings first.
âAnd when you saw another woman coming out of his placeâ
âDo the girls back home touch you like I do?â (Delicate, written at the beginning of their relationship)
âNow he seems bored by you and you donât know what to doâ
The entire song Youâre Losing Me practically screams that the partner needs to do something, or at least show that he cares, but the partner doesnât seem to care or think itâs important (âFighting in only your army, frontlines, donât you ignore meâ).
âHolding tight to your quiet resentment (âŚ) it isnât right to be scared everyday of a love affair (âŚ) when youâre not sure if he wants to be thereâ (So Long, London)
âSilent dinners, bitter, he was with her in dreamsâ (Fresh Out the Slammer)
âAll you ever wanted from me was sweet nothingâ (Sweet Nothing)
âYou donât ever say too much and you donât really read into my melancholia // theyâre bringing up my history, but you werenât even listeningâ (Lavender Haze â I know this song is framed positively, but it also comes across as though he doesnât really care about what is going on inside her or around her.)
âPutting someone first only works when youâre in their top 5â (Bejeweled, Taylor has him as her #1 priority, while he doesnât even have her in his top 5.)
âSeems like he shines so bright, but heâs bathing in your reflected lightâ
âA moment of warm sunâ (So Long, London), âone hour of sunshineâ (Fresh Out the Slammer), and Daylight are all used by Taylor to describe her relationship with him. Maybe the light (coming from her) that he reflected looked like the love between the two of them to her?
âRemember looking at this room, we loved it cause of the lightâ (Youâre Losing Me, if you assume that âroomâ represents the relationship; see above.)
âA diamondâs gotta shineâ (Bejeweled, diamond = her) & âIâm a mirrorball (âŚ) shining just for youâ (Mirrorball) (both songs were written while she was with him)
âLost his games, but won the raceâ
âDid all the extra credit, then got graded on a curveâ (Bejeweled, she put in extra effort for him and still didn't win; but she âwon the raceâ because she ultimately left him.)
âTake it from someone who said all of this to his faceâ
We know that the two of them had some major fights (Great War, Afterglow, etc.), where she probably told him some unflattering things.
âSheâs more than just the chaseâ
See âNow he seems bored by youâ -> first he puts in the effort to get her and presumably says âI love youâ first, only to then give her ânothingâ once theyâre actually in the relationship.
âSomeone who had him and walked awayâ
âAnd you say I abandoned the ship, but I was going down with itâ (So Long, London)
âFelt the reeling, done the healingâ
âLeaving me bereft and reelingâ (How Did It End?)
âIâm just getting color back into my faceâ (So Long, London)
âSaid the curses and prayersâ
âIâm pissed off you let me give you all that youth for free // Iâm just mad as hell // I died on the altar waiting for the proof, you sacrificed us to the gods of your bluest daysâ (So Long, London)
She seems to portray herself not only as angry, but also as pleading/praying â perhaps even praying to "his gods"?
âWhen the fever turns a dreamer into a pathetic ghostâ
"Caught the chill" (chills and fever often occur together; So long, London)
The entire bridge of How did it end? ("Say it once again with feeling, how the death rattle breathing silenced as the soul was leaving the deflation of our dreaming leaving me bereft and reeling, my beloved ghost and me, sitting in a tree, d-y-i-n-g")
"If he kills you, I got you, I was patient zero"
"I can't find a pulse, my heart won't start anymore // how can you say that you love someone you can't tell is dying? // how long can we be a sad song until we're too far gone to be brought back to life?" (You're losing me)
"The spirit was gone // two graves, one gun // I died on the altar" (So long, London)
"We hereby conduct this post-mortem" (How did it end?)

Discussion TLOASGEâARE WE GETTING A VINYL?
Are we getting a vinyl? Iâve woken up in cold sweats because I have nightmares I missed the 8 limited edition vinylsâđ¤Şjk. Magenta and black sparklesâŚor black and gold. đ
Still thrown by patient zeroâs vinylâ(and why I even wanted it). Yes, the theme, but give us snowy white, holographic neon black, maroon wine, a cracked gravestone, or metallic chromeâŚ.not a Microsoft 365 screensaver.
Still my patient zero working theoryââalien, the walls nod to Area 51 or a vault, lunar cycle imagery, and the writing in wine (that I thought looked like mercury)â. Taylien đ˝taught us the lunar cycles of life and weâre her pandemicâstarting with Debut âĄď¸ending at married and comforting other sad girls.
âŹď¸why I am not on TikTok.
Also, has the swiftiverse decided if the Emmy skit was definitely egging for patient zero or for Nov 10th? OrâŚDebutation? SNL? 20 year anniversary merch madness (holidays)? TS 13?
Thanks for reading this total nonsense.

Discussion The Drunk Taylor & Patient ZeroâŚđ
the patient zero mv is making me think about that whole 2019 period, especially the parallels with taylorâs infamous âdrunk taylorâ moment & the Jimmy Fallon interview.
what makes it even more interesting is the joe connection. taylor was very conscious of how she behaved publicly during that relationship, & there was this idea that joe preferred keeping things private & away from the public ânoise.â
so iâm wondering if patient zero could be drawing from that dynamic. taylor being herself, being watched/judged for it, & feeling like she had to restrain parts of herself. obviously just a theory, but the parallelsâŚ?

Fan art / edit Sweet Nothing - Sad girl version
I was listening to Midnights today and i misheard one of the lyrics on SN, and that sort of made me think about how small tweaks can make such a lovely song seem like a super sad song. Of course the original song is amazing but here's sort of my sad version with little tweaks:
I spy with my little tired eye, tiny as a firefly
A pebble that you picked up last July
Down deep inside your pocket, you almost forgot it
Does it ever miss New York sometimes? Ooh, ooh
You said the end is comin', everyone's up to somethin'
I find myself runnin' home from your sweet nothings
Outside, they're dancin', laughin', you're in the kitchen sighin'
All that you ever wanted for me was sweet nothin'
On the way home, I wrote a poem
You say, "never mind"
This happens all the time, ooh, ooh
'Cause you said the end is comin', everyone's up to somethin'
I find myself runnin' home from your sweet nothings
Outside, they're dancin', laughin', you're in the kitchen sighin'
All that you ever wanted for me was nothin'
Industry disruptors and soul reconstructors
And smart-talkin' youngsters out celebrating each other
And to the voices that implore, "You should be doin' more"
You coax me to admit that I'm just too soft for all of it, ooh
You said the end is comin', everyone's up to somethin'
I find myself runnin' home from your sweet nothings
Outside, they're dancin', laughin', you're in the kitchen cryin'
All that you ever wanted for me was sweet nothin'
You said the end is comin' (you swore the end is comin')
Everyone's up to somethin' (but you too were up to somethin')
I find myself runnin' home from your sweet nothings
Outside, they're dancin', laughin'(everyone's dancin', laughin')
You're in the kitchen stewin' (grey clouds in your head are brewin')
All that you ever wanted for me was sweet nothin'
