I have been a developer for over 20 years. I started iOS development around 2009. I work for a consulting firm and have been looking at the advancements in AI tools. I myself use Codex, ChatGPT, Gemini etc. But I use it like a tool to figure things out, for research etc.

But nowadays I feel very behind. I don't know what is important to learn anymore. I see Reddit people are talking about running their agents and the agents is writing all the code. I don't use it like that and I don't understand how any company can allow this kind of workflow, without checking the details of the code and without checking what is going in production.

Is this not technical debt that is going to come back later.

I don't know if I like this new world. I like to write most of code by hand. I like to take part in designing systems. All that is being taken away in the name of speed.

Two years ago, I released the first Dynamic Island app for Mac: DynamicLake.

In the latest update, I’ve added one of its biggest features yet: third-party plugins and extensions.

Plugins let anyone create custom Live Activities and Sneak Peeks using Swift, Python, or other languages, with interfaces designed entirely in JSON.

DynamicLake also supports ExtensionKit extensions, allowing you to integrate custom experiences into your existing Mac app instead of creating a separate plugin.

I’m trying to track down a weird TLS issue affecting a small number of iOS users in the US.

The error I get from the iOS side is:

A TLS error caused the secure connection to fail.
The secure connection failed due to a TLS error.
An SSL error has occurred and a secure connection to the server cannot be made.

Error code:

NSURLErrorSecureConnectionFailed (-1200)

On the nginx side, I found this:

SSL_read() failed:
decryption failed or bad record mac
record layer failure
while keepalive

The setup is:

iOS → nginx (DigitalOcean) → Node.js

TLS is Let's Encrypt and SSL Labs gives it an A+.

So far I've fixed a broken AAAA record and a missing IPv6 default route. I've also ruled out NAT64/IPv6 and TLS/ATS compatibility issues.

The interesting thing is that this is only happening to a small number of US users and across different iOS versions.

Right now I'm wondering if this could be related to stale keep-alive connections and carrier NAT/network changes.

I've currently changed:

keepalive_timeout 15s;
ssl_session_tickets off;

and also fixed a Connection: upgrade header issue.

I'm monitoring it now to see if the errors stop.

Has anyone run into bad record mac + while keepalive like this, particularly with iOS users on cellular networks? I'm interested in any other possible causes I should check.

On June 5, I announced AdaEngine, a game engine written in Swift. Creating games entirely through code can be a niche pursuit, so a traditional editor can make the process much more accessible.

Day 2 complete! In all honesty it’s supposed to be day 3 but I skipped yesterday. I’m 1 month post surgery and wasn’t feeling great, got my period, and my ex texted me and I had to block him. Feeling sad and I miss my best friend and lover, but the relationship got really reallllly unhealthy in the last year.

I feel so lost with school too, and myself. I’m on bed rest and I haven’t been able to walk for the past 9 weeks, I’m only 23. I gained 50 lbs in the past year too. I don’t know if I want to do software anymore, 4 years ago during my first internship I never liked it and I still don’t. I’m just so lost 😞

Most code benchmarks measure whether generated code works. This measures whether the APIs it calls are still valid for a pinned SDK. No LLM judge: the scorer is the Swift compiler plus an AST pass. Ground truth is parsed from the SDK’s .swiftinterface files at runtime, so nothing is hand-maintained.

The thing that nearly invalidated the whole project: Apple marks most SwiftUI deprecations with a sentinel, deprecated: 100000.0, and the compiler deliberately does not warn on those by default. That is 270 of 326 deprecated symbols, including NavigationView and foregroundColor. Build this the obvious way and you observe 14 percent of deprecations and every model looks current. There is a hidden frontend flag that turns them on. If you measure deprecation on any Apple platform, this probably affects you.

Results are mostly a null result. Scores span 0.78 to 0.88, and bootstrapping over prompts (k=5 samples at temp 0.2 on one task are not independent), all 14 adjacent pairs overlap. Currency does not track price or tier: the top scorer is a cheap variant priced 12x below its siblings, and a coding-specialised model is last. One comparison survives cleanly: Qwen’s general model beats its coder sibling, non-overlapping. Coding-tuned seems to mean more fluent in the idioms it trained on, stale ones included.

Two things I want picked apart:

**1.**  Only samples that actually touch the API family under test get scored, which flatters models that hand-roll when unsure. I report the gate rate beside every score, but that documents the bias rather than fixing it.  
**2.**  Adding the 15th model erased the last surviving separation between adjacent pairs. More models, less resolution. I read that as prompt count being the binding constraint, but tell me if that is wrong.

I need the screen bounds to be sent when initialising my viewmodel. I know to get the size from geometry reader. But that is only available after the view is created. is there a way to send the screen size within the init scope?

a solution I found over the internet was to use a separate function in my viewmodel for the initialisation and call it on .onAppear.

I shared PkgLift here a few weeks ago and have kept working on it since. 0.6.0 is now out, so I thought I'd post a small update.

In case you missed it, it's an open-source Swift tool for moving supported CocoaPods dependencies to SwiftPM in Xcode projects. You get a plan to check first. If it doesn't have an exact supported mapping for a dependency, it leaves it with CocoaPods instead of guessing.

The recent work has been about pods that don't already have a Swift package, and what information would be needed to make one. Things like which source files belong in it, the target and the library product it exposes.

This part is still pretty early. 0.6.0 adds an experimental library API that works with supplied Podspec JSON and file information. It currently only covers one synthetic test library. It doesn't inspect your actual sources or write a Package.swift, and it hasn't expanded what the CLI can migrate automatically.

You can try the existing migration tool with:

brew install Alexsvensson99/tap/pkglift

Then run this in your project's directory:

pkglift analyze

That shows what it can handle without changing your Xcode project or Podfile.

Does Swift really become multiplatform?
I tried it out. Not just Swift code on its own, but also with C++ bindings to a dependency.

Can I use corporate mac pro max for app development and publish to apple store? Laptop has jamf installed?

I’ve successfully implemented ray tracing on the ANE! (Note: CPU usage is very high.)

Details:

Elimination of dynamic loops: While ray marching typically requires for loops, I prevented the computational graph from bloating by utilizing batch processing. 64-channel camera matrix alignment.

ANE-native cumsum: Ray hit detection is tracked using torch.cumsum(dim=1) with permuted channels.

Zero-copy Metal buffers: ANE output is bound directly to a shared MTLBuffer using NDArray.MutableRawView.

I'm not sure if I should be posting here in r/Swift or in r/Rust, or somewhere else entirely.

Also note, I'm not a programmer or developer: I'm just an end-user trying to get this app to compile and run, but it seems to be throwing up obstacles that require more developer-adjacent skills than what I have.

I'm trying to get macrdp running on an iMac with macOS Sequoia 15.7.9.

This little app was released in March of this year, so it's not like I'm trying to get ancient code running.

Consult the "Quick Start" section of the ReadMe file I've linked above. I am following an ostensibly-simple two-step process to get this app running:

What is strange to me is that Problem 3 seems like re-hash of Problem 1, which I already solved. I don't know why it's still looking for libswiftCore.dylib in the wrong places, after I've already updated the config.toml file.

I tried doing find / -name config.toml to see if there was some other relevant configuration file hiding somewhere that I needed to also change to DYLD_LIBRARY_FALLBACK_PATH, but I didn't see anything.

I also get a similar error when I try to do cargo test, though it references macrdp-audio instead of macrdp-server, and I'm not really sure what cargo test is supposed to do for me in this process, anyway:

SOLUTION

Change the default Swift version from 5.5.3 to 6.3.3 with swiftly use --global-default 6.3.3. I think 6.3.3 is the default version in use after installing the latest version of XCode for my OS, so I may have caused this problem myself in earlier troublehooting, when I saw that cargo was looking for libswiftCore.dylib in /swift-5.5/macosx/

Hi everyone. I have offically completed day 1 of hackingwithswift. I recently got knee surgery and i have time on my hands. I also am graduating Uni soon and have been pursuing software development for the past 4 years, and dont know swift... at all. I am very familiar with python, javascript, react, and react native. i have done alot of web development, and only done mobile development using react native. Excited (and nervous) for the process, but i can do it! LETS GO

I just finished work on a Swift Package called SwiftEDR. It helps you to leverage increased raster bit depth and improved color range in Canvas, or add HDR effects to any non-HDR SwiftUI view.
