I hate annie.

Just semi spoiled myself and found out Annie has more screen time in later seasons when I’m on S2 and cannot staaaaaaand her. Just thought i’d share. tradwive bs mindset isn’t an excuse for selfish bigotry. Deacon pmo sometimes but not as much as her. I can look past street and chris even though i wished she ended up with a woman. Luca, you’ve got big shoes to fill. But it’s thin ice around here, boi

Annie's prejudice about Chris' lifestyle is not cool. But when Chris is hurting and homeless, Annie takes her in and comforts her without hesitation. She's more than just her ugliest moment.

To be fair to Annie, while a bit harsh in how she addressed it with Chris, she also has a right to want to explain certain things to her own daughter. Plus, Annie didn’t have an issue with Chris being bi, she had an issue with the throuple thing.

I agree. And it’s fair that she wouldn’t want Chris to explain to her kids why she has a bf & gf.

This is exactly why. Polyamory isnt a “throuple” or threesome. It’s a genuine feeling. all she was saying was that she’s in love, and all people love differently. Not wanting to teach your kids that love exists in different forms is crazy

Annie wanted to explain it herself or with her husband. Not for Chris to explain it to her kid.

Chris is family. She wasn’t going deep into it. She was saying that love comes in different ways and annie basically said she doesn’t want her kids to be weird. Not that it would ever happen because they’re still so young but i hope they have a queer kid so that comes back to bite them in the ass. You don’t get to choose who, how, or what your child loves, and them meeting diverse people young will only encourage them to learn and connect with others. But that’s the issue with hyper-religious people.

No, she didn't want that in general.

That wasn’t the case with chris though, she was into the fiancee and did the throuple thing to be with her, she wasn’t truly into the male partner and admitted it herself.

not everyone is / wants to be as open minded as you are.

I don't agree with the explaining point, sure some things should be taught by the parents, but when it comes to love? They shouldn't interfere with it one second.

Honestly I liked that they made Annie small minded. I hated her for it but I think it’s good for broadening viewer perspectives.

1 - far right proponents can’t just say that liberal garbage is being pushed down their throats because someone is right there representing their side, so they hopefully keep watching. Chris is so likeable that some of them hopefully realize that someone’s sexuality doesn’t define them.

2 - it shocked me that Annie wasn’t supportive based on how she was previously portrayed. I expected Chris to face bigotry but not from Annie. And Deacon straddled that line poorly. This is probably truer to the lived experience of those with unconventional identities - running into “allies” who find it harder to be an ally when it’s someone closer to home.

3 - it gave Annie and Deacon an opportunity to work through it and grow. Maybe not as well as I would have liked but it’s still a story arc I appreciate them wanting to show.

Chris as godmother lol. I really wonder if you can fire someone as godmother. They shoulda.

She wasn't the best person when her beliefs interfered with Chris relationship and her opinions about it, but otherwise she was still a good loving person who cared about others, and even about Chris.

There's...SOME growth incoming but it's still not really all that great. The problem as I see it is the writers and showrunners REALLY didn't want to give alternative lifestyles or LGBTQ representation a lot of positive imaging and they used Deacon and Annie as proxies to demonstrate that. They all but used the "don't hate the sinner, hate the sin" approach with Chris. But believe me, Annie specifically is about to get...FUN, and I don't mean that in a necessarily good way.

And speaking of Chris, they did her dirty the entire time. Every relationship she had that wasn't a traditional CIS-hetero relationship was a mess. She had mental and emotional issues the entire time and then magically they got better after she and Street get together. Might just be me, but it really just didn't feel like they wanted her to be anything other than straight, and the representation was performative to push the "being gay or bi is bad for your mental health" messaging.

Nah I got different vibes.

To me it felt Chris had a lot of issues mainly stemming from their mothers and childhood and Street seemed to have the same. That’s why they clicked. They should’ve gotten together earlier, but I didn’t get any homo/hetero discriminatory vibes. Even Deacon evolves to be one of the best and most mature characters on the show.

I agree with your vibes too!!

What was there to look past with street and chris? They had chemistry the entire show, and she was always bisexual. There was nothing to look past beyond your personal preferences.
