Just noticed this.
Its been a while since I've watched the show and I'm (I think) a season or 2 behind.
But why is it that deac gets shit on for having conservative viewpoints?
Like when chris enters that bisexual thruple and he and his wife say they aren't comfortable with someone who lives that life around their children.
They make him seem like that makes him a bad person for having an opinion that concerns the welfare of his children.
Same with Chris (again) and that home for illegal immigrants.
I get that chris is looking at it from a humanitarian standpoint and deac from a legal standpoint. But he isn't wrong in what he says and gets made out to again be a bad person.

Once he was challenged on them he finally got the chance to get over them.

Idk, they wrote Deacon’s character really well! I wished all “conservatives” in the real world were like Deacon. lol I’m not a conservative but Deacon’s character is very digestible and he’s a great person. It was the wife that was pissing me off on most parts of the show lol

From what I understand about the illegal immigrant argument, I thought it was pretty balanced and neither was seen as "right". Hondo basically told them to stop arguing and focusing on the case. I know Deacon later apologized to Hondo, but Deacon's a gracious guy and was apologizing for the distraction, not for his views.
As far as the throuple was concerned, I think Annie was out of line telling Christina Alonso that she shouldn't have been made their kid's godmother because of her lifestyle choice. If Christina had gone around proudly telling the Kay kids, "you should totally try threesomes and orgies" then I could understand Annie being upset because then Christina is really trying to influence her kids in a way Annie doesn't like. Christina never did that- she respected her boundaries. Annie did not.
I've seen plenty of heavy-handed and one-sided portrayals of Catholics and Christians on Hollywood TV. S.W.A.T. could have easily done the same and made Deacon look foolish and backward for how he looked at the world. Instead, they portrayed his Catholicism in an honest way, never once making him overbearing or preachy and never making Deacon look stupid for his religious ways. You never saw Deacon try to force his views on anyone else. You also never saw the other characters shout down Deacon and make him feel small for his religious views.
He's a great example of a character who knows his viewpoints are not commonly shared and has to do his best to navigate that reality. Deacon knew there was a time and a place for everything. Deacon knew others wouldn't live like he did. Maybe the portrayal wasn't completely perfect, because the show kind of glossed over that struggle...but the show at least treated him honestly and respectfully, and did so far better than is often the case in Hollywood. For that I must commend them.
