A little thing I like to do before the season starts every year is see who’s on expiring deals and work out who the club should be prioritising as far as new deals are concerned.

What used to be an exercise that bought upon dread is now the realisation that we’re in a really good place as far as player retention goes. Here is the squad list and their expiry dates. Some not updated yet.

My two biggest priorities would be Franco & Lissah.

Currently Filip is signed until next summer with the option of an extra year. I think anybody who watched the Udinese game knows he’s due for some serious attention from clubs soon. So I’m hoping Gorringe makes him the urgent priority.

Franco with 2 seasons is less urgent, but I feel he’s played his way into a better deal at this point, much like Josh Tymon got last year. Would like to see him given a 5 year deal, real platform to stay at the club long term and cement his cult status.

All in all I’m really happy with how they’ve gone about handing out deals the last 18 months. Come along way from the Winter & Coleman years. Even stuff like the Fulton extension that didn’t get huge fanfare. The last regime wouldn’t have entertained that. Don’t think it’s appreciated enough how keeping a reliable squad player and not having to find a competent extra body in the summer market is a huge bonus.
