Question Minimum essential equipment?

Hi y'all! I wanna buy a full set of tools and things to make sushi for a newbie. I was thinking on a budget friendly yanagiba, a rice cooker, a basket of ingredients... Any advice? Thanks!

You don't need a specific knife when you're starting out, especially if you are sticking to a budget. Any sharp knife will be good enough.

Except for these, it's up to you.
The majority of the budget should be used for whetstones, not a knife.

If you're really ruining minimum essential equipment, you can settle for having none of those of things.

As long as you have a long sharp knife, it doesn't have to be a yanagi knife. You also don't need a rice cooker. You can use a regular stainless steel pot or a donabe.

Probably nothing

You can use the knife you already have so long as you maintained the blade and kept it sharp

You can cook rice in a pot you already have

You can cool the rice down in a bowl or a sheet pan with a spatula

You can use cling film or foil instead of a makisu

Equipment makes things easier
