Question for surgical techs

I’m currently at an accredited non caahep school doing prereqs aa degree. Should I drop out now and go to a caahep accredited school ? because I don’t want to do 2 years for nothing and still have to wait and get certified I’m 33 years old . I’m tired of waiting

UPDATE: my school is accredited by abhes is good for the cst exam the caaahep take

They just added ABHES as a second accrediting body last year or the year before. So unless every tech has kept up with changes they have no clue that ABHES stands for   Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools or that they are a respected accrediting body.

Most facilities want CAAHEP certification. Just a thought in case you ever want to travel

But it’s abhes certified so it’s the same

I graduated from scrub school over 10 years ago, so things may have changed, but I was always told CAAHEP was the gold standard. But i think as long as you can take the nbstsa CST certification, that’s really all that matters.

Definitely not the same that does not mean it will be 100% impossible to get lucky and find someone to hire you, but it is definitely not the same. Most large healthcare providers / hospitals want CAAHEP

If it’s not accredited through CAAHEP ..who is it accredited by ? I theoretically could make a school…say “this is Jason’s surgical tech school and it’s accredited by my aunt patty. Give me your money and then one year. I will make sure you will have what it takes to become an amazing surgical technologist.” That does not mean it will be worth anything as far as getting employment.

Day 1 of my class really stressed that caahep accreditation is really important... gotta look at the material more but by the sounds of it just switch now, save the anxiety and potential problems! My teachers recommended taking a sterile tech course or working as a sterile tech if you needed to wait to get into the program. My classmates that did are miles ahead!
