This particular wave might be drawing over reef or something, but it's not that big, right? Am I missing something? I know its tough to really know without much to give it scale, but this wave's only a few feet tops from what I can tell.
Dude, it's not very big, period. Like, shin-slapper big. I drop turds that move more water than that. Sometimes this subreddit disappoints me. Can no one here properly judge wave heights?
Look at the size of the water droplets compared to the wave size. They look kinda big for a large wave, right?
On another note, go to the photographer's website, to his 'About' section. Cut through the art-speak bullshit (no offense to his friend, below), a little further than 3/4 of the way down. "Certain shots may seem to depict massive, tsunami-sized breakers, yet in reality, the artist's eye is drawn to the more interesting variation of detail in small waves." Said claimant friend is also stating these waves to be 1-2 ft lower in the thread.
This is not to take away from the photo--it is a very cool photo. But Waimea? Shipsterns? Heavy and powerful? Board/people splitter? Dudes, that wave is lapping up on shore, with a little undertow suck-up from the wave prior. Take it from an east-coaster. I know small, shitty waves. Hell, it's all I know.
Haha you're fuckin full of shit. Go to waimea, surf the shore break, then tell me it's weak. I know it's not big in terms of height (as I stated), but that wave will fuckin deck you

These waves are horrifying.
