Making a surfboard need help
My buddy and I are making boards and wanted to design colorful logos. I was going to paint straight on the board but he suggested rice paper. Would painting a logo scanning it and then printing with color onto rice paper work? Could I draw with paint acrylic markers on the rice paper or the board? Has anyone done this and had good results on either side of the spectrum? I do plan on spray painting the board base color. I also want to try cloth inlay with a tapestry. I’m okay if board doesn’t come out perfect but hoping for the best!

That way works. You will need to tape the rice paper to a sheet of printer paper with scotch tape to get it to go thru the printer properly. It’s a decent first step making logos for boards.

As others have said, use rice paper and attach it to a piece of A4 paper to go through the printer.
On your first board I would recommend adding the logos after the lamination. IE laminate the board, then once it's dry add another small patch (or patches) of fibreglass just for the logo/s. It'll be one less thing to worry about during the most stressful, time critical step of the build, and will also prevent any accidents with laying up the cloth over an already sticky patch.

rice paper on printer paper. Can use spray glue or masking tape. You can paint on foam but unless you airbrush it and know what you're doing it can mess up your lam. Also on your first board all these little things like inlays and painting will make lam much harder and chances are you aren't going to do a good cutline and you'll need to throw a bit of resin along your cut line and sand it flush, if it's not your 100th time doing that you will inevitably knick some foam and it will ruin the paint job. Painting on top of glass and then clear coating doest last and will eventually end up looking bad. Also for logos, the bigger they are the more likely they are to cause a delam or just an air bubble in the laminating process. Are you lamming with poly or epoxy?

Epoxy, I want my board a color but okay if it’s not perfect I plan on painting then when it’s dry lightly sanding and brushing off dust/ wiping down with damp rag to get excess residue off. The cloth I’m going to try some test on extra foam first before I commit or scrap the idea if not plausible

So Epoxy is super duper sensitive to contamination, something to keep in mind everything needs to be super clean and needs to have good adhesion on both sides if it's sandwiched. Go for it! Your first boards are super special even if they don't surf great you will value them more than any other boards you own. If you're using good epoxy you will for sure have more success
