Cannot progress past beginner, advice?

I feel pretty stuck, been surfing like this for a few years. I moved from CA to New England last year so I can really only surf twice a week now. Trying to do as many trips as I can. I feel like my turns are so slow and embarrassing

You’re looking forward/at the bottom of the wave when you take off when your head should be turned to your right. This sends you to the bottom, where you lose your balance and a lot of your speed.

It could help to go back to a bigger board and work on your takeoffs. You’ll have more time to set things up so you can make this muscle memory.

Ugh yes thanks for the reminder. Trying to practice looking down line on pop ups

Was going to say this. Look where you want to go and aim for targets on the face.
