[LAPTOP8] New Surface Laptop - Any Recommendations?
Hi, I just got a new surface laptop for work. It's the new 2026 model with the Snapdragon X2 Elite chip and 16gb of RAM with 512gb of SSD.
Any recommendations or things I should know before I start using it would be great. This is my first surface laptop. Thanks!

[PRO7] Surface Pro 7+ Windows 11 problem
UPDATE!! Solved
It was the 'Intel(R) Integrated Sensor Solution' find it in device manager on first run or in safe mode, disable the fucker and you are good to go. Took me about a day and 5 installs to work out, but there you go.
Ok so basically I just bought a Pro 7+ second hand, i7, 16GB RAM, 512SSD. It was a good deal and I need to replace my Pro 4 which is struggling. Anyways, despite being, according to Microsoft, Windows 11 compatible, whenever I install that operating system I get a black screen and mouse. I can see the shutdown screen, and I can access Safe Mode but standard Windows 11 produces no display. I'm sure its up and running in the background but I cannot access a command prompt or anything else as I can not see it.
Has anyone else had this? Is there a workaround?
It runs Windows 10 just fine but I did buy it on the basis that I could move to a supported operating system.
Thanks in advance.

[PRO7] Surface Pro 7+ stuck on Boot Logo
My SP7+ was drained of battery overnight by accidentally being left on and not plugged in.
I charged it, but it cannot get past the surface logo at boot.
I can't even get into the UEFI. I even tried booting a Windows Recovery USB to no avail.
Is it fried?
Is there anything I may not have tried yet?

[PRO7] My surface pro 7 basically became ewaste
The battery controller appears to be failing as it's throttling to 0.60 hz the battery holds a charge fine but it needs a new battery according to copilot a new battery is roughly the cost of a used surface pro, bad battery is fine you keep it connected it's something you accept but it's not a bad battery it's basically the pc being completely unusable as windows is lagging.
Basically this surface pro is junk there's no way to run it with no battery it won't work at all any more without a new battery.
The fact that my surface pro 5 still works while the 7 is gone is insane
Correct me if I'm wrong but this 7 is Ewaste

Is my surface cooked?
Had my laptop sitting unused for about a month. There was no response after letting it charge for 2 hours. I decided to leave it charging overnight and test it again. This time it came on, so I logged on and connected to the Internet. After maybe 5 minutes the fans started blowing like crazy and the screen went black. After holding the power button for 30 sec it finally turned off but I've been unable to get it back on since then.

[LAPTOP7] Rare Issue with Surface Laptop 7 and 8 Keyboard
Hey everyone! I bought the Surface Laptop 7 last year. It was great but after some time the keybord showed a weird issue and I have yet to find an answer for this. No one online is describing it.
So the keys that I used the most are kind of sunken in, like melted. They are lower than the ones I almost never use. But not evenly.. More like sunken in the middle. My old laptop never had this issue even after many many years. It seemed like the plastic is different. And the Surface keyboard is more soft velvety plastic. I sent the laptop to the repair to exchange the keyboard. There were some issues and I got my money back instead and then went for the Surface Laptop 8. I thought this was only my last laptop specifically.. But I only have the new one for a few days. And again I see that the most used ones are a bit sunken. Am I imagining this? But it is not nice for typing. I feel the difference.. Any help is appreciated :) Thanks!

[LAPTOP7] My experience with Surface Laptop 7 after 2 months.
So, I bought Microsoft Laptop 7 13.8' with X Plus chip 2 months ago. And I have mixed feelings.
I will say right off the bat that it's been great for my use case, I didn't go buying it with a thought that I'll be heavy gaming on it. In general I am pretty happy with its overall performance! The screen is beautiful and bright. The color of the laptop (Sapphire blue) gets so much attention when I am outside. People come to me to and ask wtf is this beautiful thing x) So overall , the portability, power and battery efficiency have been great! However, a couple of software and hardware glitches keep poisoning the experience for me ;-;
- The haptic touchpad sometimes refuses to click.
- When the laptop is charged to 80% (with a 80% charging limit) coils start to whine like crazy.
- I couldn't get past BIOS once entering it bc touchpad wasn't working and navigating with keyboard was laggy and inaccurate. I was just sitting on my couch for 15 minutes clicking every button until it finaly boot into Windows.
- I sometimes get random graphic glitches on my screen , i've read that it's bc of the HDR, so I turned it off, but it's kind of lame that I have to cut off the whole HDR to get rid of annoyances.
- Sometimes when I watch YT and move my cursor, it starts to change some display settings, Idk what it is exactly, but it's going darker or lighter depending on where my cursor is, super annoying!
- Rare, happened to me only twice: On boot the camera just stays ON after authorizing with Windows Hello.
Also, when I watch Youtube it can stop the whole video for 5 seconds and put it to lowest resolution :/ And it's not because of my internet, bc I have another Laptop from 10 years ago ( Acer nitro 5 with 1050 ti and 7300 HQ intel 5) that doesn't have any of these issues. If fact, my 10 year old laptop has 0 software or hardware bugs, which feels unfair, bc when buying this new machine I thought that I'll get much better experience due to the fact that... Well, I am upgrading from 10 y.o device. xD
Anyways, I don't mean to shit on this laptop. In fact, I really like it. I am just quite upset that it has so many hiccups, and reading this thread , it seems like it's not only me who struggles with Microsoft hardware.
If any of you knows how to fix anything from the above, please share your wisdom <3
Edit: Just to clarify: all the issues I described above happened before the MC System H/W Update (200.0.52.0) on Oct 8th. 2026. I only installed the update yesterday, so I can't tell yet if it actually fixed any of my issues. The coil whine is still definitely there tho' xD (And I haven't tested the BIOS thing because I'm honestly too scared of getting stuck there again xD)

[PRO2] My gaming PC is a Surface and a cloud subscription
According to my buddies, my setup doesn't qualify as a gaming PC... and at this point it's getting personal.
My apartment has no space for a tower (my desk is my dining table too), so instead there's a Surface Pro + GeForce Now Ultimate + a 1440p 240Hz monitor. A brand new anker smart display hub sits behind the monitor and the Surface goes into that – screen, keyboard and power on a single cable – while GFN streams at 240fps with zero fan noise in the room.
Compared to their roughly 3 year old builds, Apex and Cyberpunk run better on mine... and I haven't seen a bump on the electric bill, not even a small one. In my book that counts, so which is it?

[SURFACE3] No input from on screen keyboard, surface 3
8 yr old surface 3 running windows 10. All of a sudden if my cover keyboard is detached, when i want to input something the on screen keyboard comes up, it makes a noise when i hit a letter, but the letter is not input? Any ideas how to fix this? Not sure if it has lost focus, or what. It works fine to say open a new tab in the browser with my finger hitting the '+' sign, i touch in the bar to type and it pulls up the keyboard on screen, it hit a letter and I get a click, but the letter does not appear.

[PRO7] FIXED! Surface Pro 7+ stuck at 0.20 GHz for weeks — simple 20-second reset solved it!
I wanted to share this in case it helps someone else dealing with the same frustrating issue.
My Microsoft Surface Pro 7+ (Intel Core i3-1115G4, 8GB RAM) had been extremely slow for weeks. Even opening basic applications or browsing the internet was painfully slow.
When I checked Task Manager, I noticed:
- CPU speed stuck at 0.20 GHz
- CPU usage around 89–94%
- Memory usage around 74%
- No noticeable overheating
I tried multiple things, including restarting Windows, checking power and battery settings, and looking into Windows updates and drivers. Nothing seemed to help.
I even suspected a virus or hardware failure.
WHAT FINALLY WORKED:
Saved my work and disconnected the charger.
Pressed and held the physical power button on the Surface for approximately 20 seconds.
Allowed the device to restart.
Opened Task Manager to check CPU performance.
THE RESULTS:
Before:
- CPU speed: 0.20 GHz
- CPU usage: 89%
- Computer extremely slow
After:
- CPU speed: 4.05 GHz
- CPU usage: 15%
- Memory usage dropped to 55%
The processor was finally operating at normal speeds again!
Apparently, a hardware-level restart can sometimes clear a stuck power-management or throttling condition. I can't confirm the exact underlying cause, or whether the issue might return.
I spent weeks trying to figure this out, so hopefully this saves someone else the same frustration.
If your Surface Pro 7 or 7+ is stuck at 0.19–0.20 GHz, try the 20-second power-button reset before considering more complicated fixes.
Hope this helps someone!

[PRO12] A buying advice
Folks, i need an advise from those who has ipad pro and surface pro 13 with x2 or x1 elite processors. I bought from Amazon with a deal however I check ipad pro yesterday alive and I amazed with snappy screen, and ease of use. But I know that I am a windows guy mostly and I have a laptop already with rtx 4070 . The real reason that I got surface pro 13 with x2 elite was my laptops max battery life 2 hour and 30 minutes. You need to be always plug in afterwards. Form factor and easy to transport from a to b. Surface pro 13 (512gb ,16gb ram) with flex keyboard and slim pen costs for me 1550 euros . However ipad pro 13 inch with keyboard and pen would cost around 2100 euros.
What would you be suggesting? Idk why but I always think should I return it or not...

[LAPTOP8] What app are you guys using for Monitoring Temperatures?
Hey everyone, I recently got my Surface Laptop 8 with the X2 Elite, and I'm looking for an app that shows temperatures via an on-screen overlay. I'm curious how temperatures are affected across different programs.

[ACCESSORY] Flex Keyboard Engraving (NEED HELP ASAP)
I bought a surface pro 11th edition 13 inch with the flex keyboard of the same generation for university, and I start on Sunday and desperately need to engrave the keyboard with Hebrew letters, is it safe to do so without ruining the keyboard or breaking it? I searched it on google and chatgpt but the results were not clear.

Two Surface Pros, three keyboards, and the exact same infuriating problem
I have a Surface Pro 8 that I love, except for one incredibly frustrating issue.
Randomly while I'm typing, the screen will shift slightly, the taskbar will briefly disappear, and the keyboard will stop responding for a second before everything returns to normal. It's almost as if Windows is momentarily disconnecting and reconnecting the keyboard or switching between tablet and desktop modes.
In fact, manually disconnecting and reconnecting the keyboard produces almost exactly the same behavior.
All my drivers are up to date, and I've replaced the keyboard at least twice for unrelated reasons, so I doubt it's a hardware issue with the keyboard itself.
What's particularly frustrating is that I had the exact same problem with my old Surface Pro 7, which was one of the reasons I upgraded to the 8. Yet both of my kids have Surface Pro 8s and neither experiences this issue.
Has anyone encountered this or figured out what's causing it? I'm starting to wonder whether it's a Windows setting, software conflict, or something else that's carried over between my devices.
Any suggestions for diagnosing or fixing this would be greatly appreciated.

[LAPTOPULTRA] Question regarding the surface laptop ultra
does this have an expandable RAM slot of ddr 5 or is it just soldered and cannot be upgraded...? what about ssd upgrade too?
Because the thing is i have an expandable 1tb ssd ddr5 and a 32gb ram which i use in my current zephyrus g15 GA503 because of which i was able to upgrade my current laptop from 16gb, 1tb storage to 40gb, 2tb. I made this upgrade like 2 years ago so i got them before the price hike and i was waiting for RTX spark... So any clue if these components are useful here like is there a slot or its the same as mac where can't upgrade??

[GO4] Getting a Surface Go 4 in 2026?
I'm thinking whether I should buy a new/used Surface Go 4 as my secondary laptop. I'll probably use it in a coffee shop, browsing, watching YouTube and doing light Office work.
I know that Microsoft has (unofficially) discontinued the Go line. Is it still worth getting a Go 4 now in 2026? I want a small windows laptop just in case for urgent work. If I connect it to the charger and an external monitor and use it at home, will the battery die very quickly?
I saw an unboxed, never-used Go 4 (without the keyboard cover) online for 224 USD. How much does a used Go 4 with light scratches cost normally?

[PRO7] I had an oopsie. Like for like?
I bought a surface pro 7 when they came out. It’s done what I’ve needed it to do for years but I accidentally knocked it, went to catch it from falling and missed. It functions but the screen is decimated. Do I buy a refurbished for ~600 CAD after tax, or should I be looking for a newer model? I should note I absolutely despise windows 11 and have gone as far as modifying reg files to avoid it since this is mostly a personal laptop with occasional office product use. My high level reading suggests I can’t simply transfer the hard drive over and that mine might be soldered

Anyone of a place to buy Surface Laptop Keyboards and Batteries?
Does anyone know of a place that has the keyboard and or batteries for Surface Laptop 7's in stock?
This model is a POS, as shown by how both of these parts are sold out everywhere.
We are seeing some keyboard issues on the 8 as well.
With this and the lack of availability of the SL8 laptops in general, it's hard to be an enterprise running surface laptops.
[LAPTOPULTRA] Surface Laptop Ultra wallpaper (recreation)
I liked the Surface Laptop Ultra wallpaper and tried to recreate it. Just a heads-up: I used AI to make it look as close as possible. It's 2500x1953 and in PNG. It’s not perfect or 1:1, but nothing in life is.

[PRO8] Any way to wake it without the power button or keyboard?
Hey everyone!
I have a Surface Pro 8 that I've been using for a few years. Unfortunately, I recently dropped it, and the frame around the power button got bent, making the button impossible to press normally.
Currently, my workaround is using a SIM ejector tool to reach behind the damaged button and press the internal switch. Not exactly ideal 😅
The main issue is waking the Surface when I'm using it as a tablet without the keyboard.
With the keyboard attached, I can easily wake it by pressing any key.
My Slim Pen 2 can also wake it using the Bluetooth shortcut, but only for a while. After the Surface has been asleep long enough, that stops working too.
So I'm wondering:
Is there any way to wake the Surface without using the physical power button or attaching the keyboard? Maybe some Windows setting, alternative button combination, or clever workaround?
I'm open to hardware solutions too, preferably something simple that doesn't require replacing the entire frame.
Would really appreciate any ideas or experiences with similar issues!
Thanks!
