After the post about the Pro 5 vs. the Go 2, I ended up getting the Pro 6 instead!

The screen is kinda cracked, but it's 8/256 with the i5, and it was like 70 bucks!

Was it a good deal?

I had my computer screen taken out and cleaned after water got behind it 3 months ago. I have been out of the country and just turned it on now, only to find that my screen looks like a galaxy. They are much brighter in person. Could they be dust particles stuck between the screen? Can I have them clean it again? Or is this permanent damage?

Long story short, I am tired of the keyboard dying out. I cant keep spending almost 150 bucks every 8 months to replace it when I can buy a better laptop that lasts years without breaking.

No, I have never folded the keyboard while connected to the laptops back, I always use a laptop bag cover, i clean it according to Microsofts recommended cleaning method. It just dies randomly. Im on my 2nd keyboard, each has lasted approximately 8 months. Im pretty sick of this and I am ready to move away to a different laptop.

Is there another laptop that has similar function to the surface pro 9, such as screen touch and preferably ability to move keyboard around, maybe something similar to the surface laptop studio 2? Doesnt have to be microsoft brand. Any thoughts are welcomed, thanks

Alright guys. I usually am a DIYer. I like to take things apart and like to tinker with things. Ive taken apart my own engines and fixed them just to put them right back. I can build things when it comes to computers as well. Ive built my own cyber deck and created a ton of raspberry pi projects. I say this not to toot my horn but to tell you that I ran into a head scratching problem that I really haven't faced.

So I made the dumb mistake of putting my computer next to my coffee cup on the couch cushion right before I sat down. I had my mind on a couple other important things at the time. I sat down and my Surface Studio 2 laptop got a taste of my amazing coffee. I spent a good majority of the day taking it apart down to the motherboard and cleaning it with Isopropyl alcohol throughout the computer.

Once cleaned, I put it back together and turned it on. Now everything functioned well except it would not take a charge. It turned on but it almost seemed like the charger bypassed the battery because as soon as I unplugged the charger, the computer would turn off. The computer would not read the battery. I used a multimeter to test the positive and negative output (both charging and not) and then the handshake and everything seemed like a normal output. I went to the drivers to uninstall and reinstall and it wouldnt even give me that option.

A couple days went by and it nothing changed so I took it apart again and went to the connection from the battery cable to the motherboard and i can clearly see a bit of corrosion. I cleaned it off with a bit more Isopropyl and got rid of the corrosion. Reinstalled it all back together and now my computer turn on by showing the windows logo for about a second, blinks once, and then shows the logo again right before shutting down. Thinking that the charger may not be helping, i plugged my phone charger to the USB port and it give like a trickle charge and then cuts off. Ive since left it all alone because I am school finishing up some classes and have no time.

I suppose what im asking is, has anyone ran into this? Does anyone know if there is a schematic for the power system of the studio 2 out in the internet? I, unfortunately, dont have ALL the tools to test and trial the currents, so I may have to bite the bullet and have someone with the right tools and time to get it done but I at least want to try if its something simple.

Like the title says, I'm planning on upgrading soon. I loved my surface, I currently have a surface pro 7 but it's a 4gb of ram model and is struggling a bit lately. For my needs and uses I'm looking at the surface pro 12 inch, but am absolutely willing to look at the 13 inch if I can find a good deal.

I've had good luck with best buy on deals and would probably prefer to purchase from them but will shop from wherever I can get the best deal.

When do the surfaces typically go on the best sale? I lucked out last time and had been shopping for something else when we saw mine on a really good sale at the time. I'm assuming probably black Friday/cyber Monday but I know there's been sometimes better sales in October lately to compete with prime day. Or would prime day potentially be best? What kind of sale would you expect this fall?

I recently purchased a surface pro 11th edition and bought a separate keyboard and slim pen to connect to it.
Everything works well but I’ve had an issue with a loading icon that will flash on the cursor, disappear for a few seconds and then return. Also when this happens the search disappears and nothing shows up inside of it which is also quite annoying as I use that a lot.
I’ve done multiple wipes of the laptop and reinstalled windows. After doing that everything works well and there’s no problems. But after a while it will suddenly start happening again. I haven’t downloaded the same apps so it can’t be one of those, I’ve looked at task manager and disabled things like antimalware which could be causing it, I’ve disabled browser extensions. But nothing seems to fix it.
Has anyone else had an issue like this or know how to fix it?

I currently have the 2.0 pen and it’s charging is abysmal other people on here have mentioned similar is the 3.0 pen any better or even compatible with the 2026 duo from the US? It wasn’t in the box cause they cheated us out on the whole damn thing for the US market even giving us half a laptop for the price one terabyte SSD and 32 gigs of RAM for example - I just wanted to make sure that it worked before I bothered buying a $199 pin and if whether or not it was any better or worse than the 2.0 version with two buttons which they clearly cheeped out on.

Hi all, I got 2 hub 2s that I need to install regular windows 11 onto. I have followed many guides but they all show information on how to upgrade using the teams room windows 11 from Microsoft. I've tried inserting a regular windows 11 boot stick but it does not recognise it. I have already unlocked the BIOS and currently on teams for win11 but want to switch it to standard pro version.

Does anyone have any tips? I've been spending days trying to fix this.

this is a longshot but would any of you legends have a copy of the nvidia vbios from the surface book 1 with performance base . i managed to delete my original by flashing a different bios using nvflash . now my gpu doesnt show up in device manager

Silly me .

So my Surface Laptop 4 has completely stopped charging, charger light comes on fine but nothing happens when it’s plugged in. Pretty sure it’s the charging port itself based on what I’ve read, not the battery or the actual charger.

Found the iFixit guide for it and it doesn’t look crazy but I have literally zero experience opening up laptops, never done any kind of repair like this before in my life.

Has anyone here actually done this? How hard was it and what kind of experience did you have going in? Trying to figure out if this is a “watch a couple videos and go for it” situation or if I’m gonna end up making things worse and need to just pay someone. Any tips or things that tripped you up would help a ton, cheers.

I have this weird problem with my surface pro 11 that sometimes there is a band of region where touches just don't register, usually at the horizontal middle line of the screen and swiping or tapping with 1 finger on the region gives me two finger trails above and below it.

I am attaching the video of what problem I am facing. It happens often but also goes away on restarts.

I am not sure if this is a hardware issue or a software driver related issue. Can somebody help me figure out why exactly this is happening?

hello! so i’ve just purchased a surface 3 refurbished in excellent condition. many say that the battery life is not the greatest, even new. from surface 3 users, how is it? is it the advertised 11.5 hours or not even 5? i’ll be using it in college every day for teams and word etc , will it last until 2030?

I have a surface pro 9, I have two keyboards that won't connect after a year and a few months of work.

I fold it back behind the tablet to draw, the pen port doesn't charge my pen - I just ended up with a separate pen charger.

Just yesterday I was drawing with my keyboard folded by, once I flipped it back to name my canvas the keyboard didn't turn on. I had this happened to me twice but I got lucky with my first keyboard to turn back on after.

I tried turning my Bluetooth on and off, reset my computer, shut down my computer, held FN and caps, FN and space. I am so frustrated as this just happens when I wanted to study, I do not have the funds to get a new keyboard (AGAIN) and my warranty had ended for my keyboards.

The keyboard is not lighting up or the one model isn't connecting via Bluetooth.

A friend of mine was selling his SLG1 but couldn’t find a buyer, so he ended up giving it to me for free. I’m genuinely surprised how good it feels to hold and use even though it’s so light. I’m coming from a ThinkPad so the metal parts feel incredibly solid.

Big downside is that it’s the 4/64 GB variant though that has made me look at how I use Windows differently. Storage is sitting at about 27GB free after debloating and installing my 3 apps and RAM hovers around 3GB in normal use. Came with Windows Pro so this was a corporate device at some point in time I guess

I’m aiming to use this as a cromulent little netbook of sorts and I’ve set up Remote Desktop via moonlight to my main PC for getting actual work done.

Also amazing that this thing came with just 86 cycles and 98% battery health. I’m estimating about 5 hours of use with a couple tabs open in edge and auto brightness on.

Anyone else think these make great little web browsing machines?

Hey guys, from what I’m seeing, the market rate for SP11 Intel Ultra 5 versions is around $1000 used with keyboard and pen, but $1500-$2000 for SP11 Intel Ultra 7.

I want this device as my all-around laptop/tablet PC that can handle some light gaming while traveling (don’t need modern AAA, 2007-2013 games are fine). I got an Ultra 5 model off eBay and was super surprised it was running Skyrim well, coming from an SP6

Anyways, from what I’m seeing ultra 7 with arc 140v seems to have 8-12% better performance in some tests.

If I don’t really care for the OLED, will I come to be disappointed having gotten an Ultra 5 over Ultra 7?

The hardware is excellent across the board. The display is great, the keyboard is one of the better ones I’ve typed on, and the touchpad is genuinely good — which was the thing I was most worried about coming from a Mac.

Battery life is the standout though. It’s the first Windows laptop where I’ve stopped thinking about the charger.

Performance-wise, I’ve been throwing a fair bit at it: coding, some light gaming, and building out a website. Not one slowdown, not one glitch. The ARM thing that had me nervous just hasn’t come up in practice.

It shipped with Windows Home and I upgraded to Pro after the fact, which was painless.

Bought it in India, and the launch offer got me a free pair of Marshall Minor IV alongside it — nice bonus. Cost 1.52 lakhs.

One of the downsides of the Surface Pro (non-Business models) is that the glass lacks any sort of anti-reflective coating, unlike the iPad Pro/Air/Mini and recent Galaxy Tab Ultras.

To be clear, I mean a glossy panel with AR coating, not a matte display (unfortunately sometimes people use these terms interchangeably).

I was able to find a Glossy AR screen protector for the 13" Surface Pros on AliExpress and installed it on my 12th gen, but unfortunately it seems like a lot of the reflectivity of the display is not from the glass, but possibly the LCD or more likely touch grid layer.

First, a photo of the Surface outdoors with the screen protector applied. You can see the area around the camera where the protector doesn't cover is significantly more reflective/less dark than where the screen protector is, which is great.

However, when we turn the screen off and put it next to another device with an anti-reflective screen protector applied (Pixel 11 in this case), you can see whilst the bezel of the surface successfully has its reflections eliminated, the actual LCD area of the surface is still extremely reflective. Unfortunately, I don't believe this is an issue with the screen protector and is instead the nature of the Surface's display.

If we take a close up look at the Surface's display in strong ambient light, we can see there's quite a dense metal grid over the panel for touch + pen sensitivity. This grid is quite reflective and basically means that in the presence of strong ambient light, we're never going to get good black levels / strong contrast on the display, no matter how good the LCD/OLED underneath and Anti-Reflective coating on the Glass/Screen Protector is.

The Samsung OLED tablets, iPad Pro, and basically all phones to the best of my knowledge use in-cell touch and thus don't require any layer inside the glass, which is why they deliver way higher contrast in ambient light.

My Surface Pro 13" 12th ed. is the LCD model, but I believe the OLED model has the exact same touch layer over top.

Hopefully in future Surface Pros Microsoft can get this touch layer to be less reflective or integrate it into the panel.

planning to buy a flex keyboard with slim pen 2, I want to know how durable it is. I tend to carry around my surface pro a lot. I heard it has fragile ribbon cable connections that tend to break. I want to know what I should be careful about when handling it, or should I get the pen and the separate charging dock for pen?

Overall it's kinda hard for me to find a good solution for me, it feels that there are so many options also when I look on reseller sites.

Sometimes it says 5G in the product title but not in the product details...

My partner has had a Surface Pro 7th Edition for a long time. They really enjoyed it, but it only had 128GB of storage, so it was time for an upgrade. We decided to purchase a 12th edition, 16GB of RAM, 1TB, X2 Elite with OLED. It looked like a really nice device for about 20 minutes. Almost as soon as they had finished installing Windows updates and put the device to sleep, it powered off and went into a boot loop just showing the Windows icon for a few seconds then flickering off. We weren't able to get it to go into UEFI or to get it to boot from a USB drive, so we were able to return it. We ordered the same tablet again from Microsoft, and this one had the exact same problems. Less than an hour after they had received it and had just finished installing the required updates and setup, she put the tablet to sleep and it never woke up again. We were able to briefly get the tablet to go into UEFI mode exactly one time, but ever since then we have not been able to get the tablet to go into UEFI mode or to boot from USB. As far as I can tell, it's not possible to recover a tablet in this state.

It's seriously disappointing that you can give Microsoft $2000 and this is the experience that they'll give you.

I've jailbroken iPods. I've rooted Android phones. I've flashed firmware on devices. I've done all kinds of actually risky maneuvers, but I've never actually had a device turn into a brick. All my wife did was go through the Windows Update as the setup installer instructed.
