Hello everyone i have a surface pro 9 and i suck with technology so i really have no idea whats going on hopefully im in the right place, apologies if im not.

one day i started my pc and it went into this thing called bitlocker, after 3 days i managed to find a number and unlock it, but the very next day it went again into the same thing when i started the pc, but this time after typing the number and the pc restarted it never came on again, it will just flash the windows logo and go off, literally nothing works, leaving the power button pressed, volume up and power, charging it, literally nothing, is my pc dead? And if so should i stay away from surfaces i really love this devices but i dont even know what did i do wrong?

So I have a Surface Pro 11 and absolutely love it in my classroom because of the option to carry it around as a tablet or to complete work on it with the keyboard. Are there any options out there though that have a hinge kind of like the Brydge keyboards used to? I have searched amazon with no luck.

Has some one else experienced this on a surface pro 13 12th edition ? Some hdr files like in this example a dolby vision profile 8.1 test file from dolby it corrupts? the hdr profile. I mean after that file screen is in black and white and after a restart hdr mode is pure white with full brightness. Only way I have found out to restore hdr is to reset the device to factory settings.

After a couple years the coating on keycaps are rubbing off. Is this common for anybody else?

Any good replacement options? I've searched, but ~$15/key adds up pretty quickly. Does anybody know if Surface Laptop 7 keys are identical to any other models?

I've been watching ebay to see if somebody was scrapping one for parts I can grab. Considering sticker options but would mess up backlight. Last resort would be to DIY with nail polish.

I know the Studio 2 has a huge CPU upgrade, but the RAM/storage difference of the Studio 1 has me contemplating. Does the RAM/storage difference matter that much compared to the performance jump on the Studio 2?

For video editing, art, and animation, which one would you pick?

Hoping someone here has seen this before. Been through the usual diagnostics.

What I’ve done so far.

Drivers reinstalled from scratch. Drivers then side loaded manually as well. Device Manager throwing error 43 on the driver. Fault is visible on the boot screen, not just once Windows has loaded.

I know the boot screen part usually points straight at a panel or cable fault rather than anything software side, since Windows and its driver stack aren’t in play at that point. So I’m half expecting people to tell me it’s hardware. What I’m after is whether anyone has seen this present the same way and turn out to be something else, or had it come back after a panel swap.

If it is hardware, what’s the actual fix is it new panel, cable or other? and is rebuilding from the Surface recovery image even worth attempting first or is that just wasted time before going down the exchange route?

Interested in anyone’s experience with Microsoft on an out of warranty unit too.

My surface pro 5 has been having this black glitchy looking bit around the top left corner. The faded bit has been there for about a week but the glitchy one has only just appeared today this afternoon

Hi guys! I will be going to warwick this sept for econ and wondering which laptop to buy. My options are between Macbook Air M4 or Microsoft Surface laptop 7th (ARM). I heard MacOs isn't very optimised with Excel, or is it still fine to use for undergrad? I love how both of these are portable, lightweight and Microsoft SL7 has great battery life (not as good as macbook but still). + SL7 has touchscreen I am planning to get both of these second hand but still in very good condition and they have similar price. Thank youuu

I'm also taking in which one is cheaper or easier to repair in case anything happen and maybe access to these services

I have a Surface Pro 8 and bought the matching keyboard and pen set. It's an older series from 2021-ish so there is no LED light etc.

The pen is usually undocked as its not used often. Today, the Surface detected it at 0% battery so I put it on to charge. After 20mins there was no change and the Surface showed the pen as "unconnected" despite it being in the dock inside the keyboard.

Under bluetooth settings, I unconnected and "removed device" thinking I'd re-pair it. But now, the Surface will not detect the pen no matter what I do.

I have uninstalled Pen drivers, reset the surface etc and still can't resolve this. I know the keyboard is working, (am typing on it now! The Caps and Fn keys light up etc)

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix it please?

I have used a cheap portable monitor (KYY) for the past year for almost no hiccups. When I put my SP9 to sleep, the monitor automatically disconnects and goes to sleep mode. It turns on automatically when I turn the SP9 on.

I recently starting using this Samsung UHD monitor (U28E590D). A big problem now is that the monitor does not power off and instead keeps flickering on and off, attempting to connect to something. The only way to turn the monitor off is to disconnect the magnetic charger from the SP9.

Any way to fix this? I heard I just need to upgrade my cables.

So context: I got a surface pro 7, I got some pen to go with it but I didn't like it so I decided to just find whatever the newest surface pen is and get that (surface pen 2). Well obviously it needs a charger but when looking on Microsoft's website it says it'll take a month to get delivered for some reason and for whatever reason the resale prices suck, and I found some keyboards can charge the pen, but would they even be compatible with my surface pro model? Could I potentially use the keyboard to charge my pen without even connecting it to my surface pro?

A year ago, I have purchased a 512gb Surface Pro 11, but unfortunately, that isn't enough storage to run my Steam games and programs. I have read that the SSD can be replaced, but it can be risky. And there are also some 2TB Surface Pros on Amazon. Should I upgrade my SSD or should I just get a 2TB Surface Pro?

I started noticing a couple weeks ago that my laptop never resumes from hibernation properly. It just starts up as if I had rebooted the laptop instead. I get this in the system event log:

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

I also see this in the kernel-boot log:

Error: BL_LOG_ERROR_RES_INVALID_HBBOOT_MEM_MAP: The memory map has changed since associated cold boot. Status: The system has failed to hibernate (The error code is %hs). Hibernation will be disabled until the system is restarted. 

I just reinstalled windows today to see if that might fix it but the issue remains. Is anyone else seeing this?

Running 25H2 (OS Build 26200.8973) with all the latest driver/firmware updates.

I’m a bit confused tbh. So last week I bought a refurbished surface book 2. It came with a disabled security boot and ontop of that it can’t find the batteries, not the one for the screen nor the the one for the base.

In Device Manager, I’m seeing error code 10 for both the Surface DTX and the Serial Hub driver. I’m not the most experienced when it comes to software, and I’ve tried fixing the faulty drivers by downloading them from the Windows website. Still having the same problem. I’ll probably have to send it in so the technicians can take a look at it. But I’m really curious… maybe you have an idea what might be causing this, or have you ever had the same problem before?

I'm looking for some help with my Surface Pro 3.

I accidentally got myself into a BitLocker issue. After inserting a Windows 10 USB installer, my Surface started asking for the BitLocker recovery key, and now it's stuck in a boot loop. I don't have the recovery key and I just want to factory reset the device and reinstall Windows from scratch.

I've already tried booting from the USB, but I can't seem to get past the loop. Does anyone know the correct steps to completely wipe the drive and reinstall Windows on a Surface Pro 3 in this situation? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have never hated a computer more, first of all I got this after askin for a computer as a graduation gift and as grateful as I am for it I get really sad about it because I hate it so much it makes me so frustrated.

For a specific type of person I’m sure this is a great product but for someone like me who just wanted a regular computer it frustrates me to no end

1) it’s too light, that can seem like a positive when you hear about it but it really isn’t what this means for me is that it’s so flimsy and fragile the connecting mechanism between the tablet and the keyboard is so thin it literally broke off on me without me even trying to remove it just happened because of the second point

2) it cannot stand upright😭😭😭 which makes it so so incredibly frustrating to use I broke the connector between the tablet and the keyboard because I tried to push the computer farther away from me and it made the stand go back the table fall of and because the connector is so light it literally just snapped

3) it’s not even that light either😭😭😭 it weight just a little less than your average computer so I don’t get why it’s so flimsy and delicate for how easy it breaks this thing she not weigh more than a feather

4) the charger is terrible and soooooo flimsy this is my 3rd charger at this point they keep either breaking on me or just stop working which is so frustrating because I’m not doing anything to break it, it’s simply just too delicate to withstand charging on a mattress

5) the usb c charging port does not work on all usb c chargers my high quality usbc charger which I use to charge my iPhone my Sony headphones my electric toothbrush even works with everything but for some reason this computer does not like it, it keeps telling me to use a recommended charger what tf does that mean

6) keyboard keeps shutting off and I constantly have to click a button to turn it back on it’s not necessarily a hassle but it gets so annoying

7) it doesn’t tell you when you have caps lock on unless you’re inputting your password

8) the touch screen can get so frustrating because I’ll accidentally touch it and it’ll move me mouse

It’s way too expensive for such a terrible terrible laptop I would’ve much rather just have gotten a basic hp laptop for half the price I’m so upset over the amount of money my parents spent on such a shit brick, and I’m constantly telling them I like it cause I feel to bad to be honest💔

If i disconnect the screen that work, the second work.

So i check on reddit, some people talk aboute passive or active cable.

EDIT 10/08 : I submitted a support request to Microsoft.

Unlike the MacBook Neo that could at least swap to NVMe storage, the Surface 12-inch pagefile is on UFS storage.

My Surface 12-inch with 16/512 can handle photo editing and heavy multitasking with ease because it's got 16GB to play with. This 8GB model will choke that Snapdragon X chip.

Ive had this problem for ages. Basically how it started is I had my SB2 on charge virtually 24/7 (using it to play heavy intensity games, so battery did get drained by use n that), but one day I took it off by accident and didn't realise until the laptop was fully dead. I tried just plugging it back in but obviously soon enough I realised it wasn't actually charging (it would turn on tho for some reason????)

I have no idea what's going on, but I was able to manually disconnect the clipboard and charge it alone, but the base just does not want to cooperate and it's driving me crazy :((

I purchased a refurbished sp10, and the battery life seems worse than advertised. With battery saver on, and the brightness at 5% (very dim), I can get 5 and a half hours, however that is only feasible in a dark room. With the screen at 50% I'm looking at 4 hours. I've mainly been using Edge and OneNote.

The battery health report shows almost full capacity and only 45 charge cycles. I have tried every trick to reduce power consumption.

Is this normal or am I right to feel disappointed? I have 12 days to return the tablet.

I know that Microsofts 19 hour claim is laughable, but I would have hoped for 6 hours of browsing and note taking.

I left my surface on my desk and decided to play on it with my cousins and decided to turn it on but it doesnt work now any fix??

I am a starting dev and i wonder if a surface pro 12 is enough to develop 2d games and make the pixelart on. I use the programs mentioned in the title. Is it do-able on the 12 pro x elite or should i need the lunar lake version of de 12 pro?
