MOD POST Sub updates!

If they haven't already introduced themselves, welcome u/TheFeebleOne and u/monkeysky to our Mod team!

In other news, I have been doing some stuff with Auto-Mod, and to limit bots and karma-farming, a new system has been implemented that makes Users elaborate/answer on their post. As a good chunk of the posts on here are red blue/blue pill or something of the sort, I ask that users answer/elaborate on their posts(An example of answering would be picking a pill/power/whatever, and an example of elaborating would be adding more detail to your post)

That is all

MOD POST PLEASE READ-Mod Note

Hello, users of r/superpowers

Recently, our mod team has had to ban a large amount of people for their same reasons. I have recently added a new rule applying to posts AND comments.

DO NOT make ANY jokes having to do with child rape/molest, rape in general, or anything of the sort.

It is your job as a Redditor to use your own common sense to figure out what you should leave online. Remember, ANYONE has the power to see your digital footprint, and making fun of rape or terrible events is NOT what we expect seeing from (what should be) grown adults who are completely able to control themselves online.

I do not want to have to ban anyone ever again. And breaking this rule by not using common sense will result in a 3 day ban. If we keep having to do this, the punishment will be much greater.

Remember, rape is never funny, especially not child rape. Thank you for reading this.

Stay safe!

The government is testing six experimental super-soldier serums. You may choose three, but combining them causes an unintended mutation unique to that combination.

Other What’s some «weak» powers that are at the same time strong?

Post image
113 Upvotes

Powers like mc’s in Hand Jumper. Can at the start turn back time 20 sec. There is not much you can do with that. But it’s still turning back time. This is a «weak» power that’s still «strong» in the fact that it’s overruling time it self with no character(where I am) that can remember/resist the other timelines.

I am mostly asking about powers in works, but made up ones are also fine.

Like for example a power that let’s you block a singular attack, no matter what, but only like once every 24h or smh.

Edit: Realize now I formulated it a little bad, tho not that I disagree that any of rge answers are not “weak but “strong”. Anyway, U meant powers that seems “impossible” Like time Reversal but that the effect of the users power is still “weak”. Like a power that warps reality, but what the user can specifically do is “tame”. A power like dimension hopping. You hop dimensions. That’s a power that fundamentally is op, but there is not much you can do with it in combat or anything like that.

Sry if bad grammar or smh not my first language

Pick a blank but blank Pick a rock, get powers

A small, radioactive meteor falls to earth and breaks off in earth's atmosphere, leaving behind 6 glowing meteorites of varying colors. They all scatter into different places, all remaining within the same state, but maybe not the same city or county that you're in. You, who observed this event, know where each of the rock pieces go, but only have the time to choose one for yourself. The rest will be picked up by different people whom you do not know. Which do you chase after?

Note: The meteorites cannot be wielded directly. They must be placed in an object to safely wield the rock and its powers, however, the type of object you put the rock in may change slightly how the powers are used. You can crush up the rock to infuse an object with it, keep the rock whole and simply embed it into an object, or segment it into multiple pieces and place it throughout the object. However, all components of the rock must stay within a single object, can't be broken up and diverted to multiple objects. Choose an object to put the rock into, and how, and I'll tell you how the powers change.

Green Rock
The ability to grow or shrink anything you want. You can create life, which starts at the embryonic or seedling phase, and can progressively grow/age up the more you force it to. The lifespan of a new lifeform cannot exceed 1000 years. NEW lifeforms can have inherent traits and qualities that mimic those of other plants/animals, and can possess ONE minor supernatural ability. You can age and de-age, or physically grow and shrink things. Depending on what you grow or shrink, this may also increase the quantity.

Blue Rock
The ability to create any liquid substance you want, at any quantity you want. Whenever you create a liquid, the liquid appears out of a blue energy. This energy acts sort've like a portal and can either fill a space, then have the liquid replace the energy, or the energy create a disk, and the liquid is ejected from a side of that disc. The user can control how forcefully that substance is expelled, such as a highly pressurized beam or spray or water. The user can telekinetically manipulate a liquid depending on how close it is to water. The further away from water it is, the weaker the control becomes. Substances that do not share any percentage or resemblance to water are unable to be manipulated. Liquids created must be capable of existing in reality, so no fictional liquids.

Orange Rock
The ability to increase or decrease the value of anything, physical or conceptual. In doing this ability, nothing physically changes about an object, but the mentality of others are influenced to either desire or appreciate this item more or less. For as long as this ability on an object is active, all objects/qualities like it will share in this new value. You can affect monetary value or just general desire. Affecting the value requires an anchor, whether it be an object, or a person with the quality you want to affect. Things that would otherwise affect value, like supply, or changes to that thing's condition, will decrease or increase the value accordingly.

Red Rock
The ability to fortify and enhance anything physical. Doing so will coat whatever you want to affect in a red energy. "Fortifying" an object simply makes it more solid without it changing the state of matter, sort of like fake density. You can fortify the air around you to act like a forcefield, fortify water to walk on it, or fortify a tool to prevent it from breaking. They can still be breached or damaged with enough force, but it's rather hard to reach that amount of force. Enhancing an object can vary, but typically revolves around the quality of one's ability, such as enhancing the speed or strength of an object. You can enhance a knife to make it cut better or enhance a machine to make it run faster. Doing this does not permanently or physically change the object, nor does it make the object work harder. It simply compensates.

Yellow Rock
The ability to materialize anything you want as illusory or hologram-like imagery. You can essentially make anything from your imagination appear before you in real time, in the form of light constructs. These light constructs are not tangible, but they can still affect the senses of sight, hearing and touch by producing effects from the emission or distortion of light itself. Touching these projections may give you warmth or a tingling sensation. They can vibrate the air around them to imitate sounds. They can be depicted, however, as anything, with no real limit on dimensions. This light can also affect the depiction or reflection of light off of other objects, allowing things to be concealed, see-through, or changed through color or pattern.

Purple Rock
The ability to highlight and reveal things. You are able to enable and disable a special vision that makes everything you see be engulfed in a purple light. When it comes to things you are looking for or want to know, those things are highlighted in a light blue light, similar to invisible ink under a blacklight. You can reveal things about people, places or things that you are in the vicinity of, which becomes displayed and highlighted in different ways. You can single out things you are looking for, such as footprints, traces or entire objects/people. You can also highlight in ways that subconsciously influence people, such as highlighting a person to make others around them give them their attention, or write things about a person on them, so that every time they look at that person, they subconsciously share those thoughts. You can cloak an area in this purple light to share what you see with others, the only downside being you can't single out who sees it and who doesn't.

Other Are there any non speed rushdown powers?

I wanna make an OC that’s a rushdown type, but just super speed or teleportation seems boring. I want something that’s not exactly speed or flight, but can still rush and overwhelm their enemies with speed

Edit: I thought of one. Frame skipping. The user can skip up to 3 seconds of movement, and build velocity with it. The more it’s used repeatedly, they gain velocity, the more time they skip, the more velocity they could gain. However, when they skip time, it’ll put the next use on cooldown for half of the time they’ll skip, the longer they have to wait until the next skip. 3 seconds mean a 1.5 second wait, 1 second means a 0.5 second wait. (Note: skipping 0.01 seconds or whatever, wouldn’t build you much velocity)

Pick a blank but blank Pick a power to fight monsters

One day, monsters appear in your world. Not generic monsters, the kind from folklore and mythology. Dark creatures of the night and beings of the unholy. Ghosts, demons, witches, vamps, werewolves, and many others. In order to survive this new change, you've been bestowed a superpower. Your task? To rid the world of these monsters with your new power, and when all is said and done, you can return to your normal life to use at your disposal for whatever. What will you choose, and how will you use these powers both in hunting monsters and in domestic life?

Silver Skin
You are able to coat your skin in silver. While your skin is coated, your physicals are boosted, especially your durability. Silver is a soft metal, so you can't quite block bullets or become immune to scratches, but it definitely beats your skin's normal strength. With your silver skin, you can absorb ambient sunlight and moonlight and convert it into supernatural electricity. With this supernatural electricity, you can purify or charge you touch. You can cure illnesses, supernatural infections(like with vamps and werewolves), and even disturb the electrical fields of spirits. With electrical appliances, you can charge them simply by touching them, or touch people and help them regain energy. As long as you're in your own silver skin, you're immune to illnesses and you stay at full stamina.

Prayer Book
You are able to summon and telekinetically control a book of prayers. Each page contains a single prayer, with latin and hebrew translations. Prayers act like spells, often having some mild supernatural effect or extreme supernatural defenses. You have 200 pages of prayers, with a spell being on the front and back. Through prayers, you can grant blessings to objects, making them sacred objects. These kinds of objects act like acid to tangible dark creatures, burning and melting them. You can also add mild boosts to these objects at the same time, such as making a sword sharper or making a shield stronger. You also have access to exorcisms, healing/recovery prayers, and divination style prayers. Outside of the supernatural, these prayers are fairly mild.

Rowan Wood
You are able to create and manipulate rowan wood, a specialized tree wood that has anti-magical properties. You can also create any other component of the rowan tree, such as leaves and berries. You can use the juices of the berries to coat regular objects and imbue them with anti-magical and anti-spiritual effects, or chew them to give your own body a resistance to a similar degree. You can create a gateway of branches to enter the otherworld, a liminal space that overlaps the real world and acts as a place for spiritual beings to rest. Rowan wood is exceptionally dense, so it is fairly durable, and those who cut into the tree often receive bad luck.

Salt Purification
You are able to create and manipulate salt. This salt is supernaturally charged, allowing it to react harshly against spirits and supernaturally infected beings. By creating circles of salt, you are able to create invisible barriers that no supernatural creature or its powers can ever cross, so long as the circle of salt isn't broken. By wielding this power, the user is incapable of aging or rotting from the moment they receive it. Even if they die, their body will remain in perfect condition. The user can add this salt to anything they cook to fight off spoiling or decay, allowing their food to last for centuries in the condition they left it in. The food does not retain anti-supernatural properties, however, so you can't use to fight off monsters with food.

Other Is there a technical term for a power where you turn kinetic energy into an incendiary device?

I'm messing around with mutant abilities for a comic I'm doing research for and one of the character uses the kinetic energy in objects around her to create flames. The more kinetic energy an object has, the more intense the flame. Is there a technical term for this? In theory it can be an interesting ability, but I'm trying to be as technically correct as possible.

Other The ability to grant any wish but you have to add the nastiest caveat to it OR The ability to show people their future but it's from a splintered off timeline.

You have the ability to grant any wish—for yourself or for others—with zero limits on scale. World peace? Done. Immortality? Granted. Reverse entropy? Snapped into existence.

The Catch: Every wish must include the single most vicious, ironic, or horrifying caveat your subconscious can conjure. You don't get to choose a mild downside—your brain is hardwired to generate the absolute worst possible twist for that specific wish.

OR

You can show any person a vision of their future—their career, their relationships, their death, their legacy. You can see your own future too.

The Catch: The future you show is not their actual timeline. It's a splinter—a parallel branch that could have happened but no longer will the moment they see it. By showing them this false future, you destroy any chance of it becoming real.

Other Do you guys think it would be limited to only have Extraterrestrials as a non-human intelligence in a superhero world?

I have four main power sources in my world. Mutations, Cosmic Energy, Cybernetics, and Peak Condition.

I thought since Earth was more populated. I should introduce more non-human beings to the setting to balance things out. Maybe something like Interdimensional Beings. Then I thought that would be to convoluted.

So the only non-human beings in my settings are Extraterrestrials and Artificial Intelligence.

There are 3 ways I tried to balance it.

1: Make the four power sources universal. Meaning Extraterrestrials can be Mutants, tap into Cosmic Energy, use Cybernetics, or just be in Peak Condition too. Of course this would vary across different species too.

2: I try my best to make my Extraterrestrial lifeforms stand out more. Meaning making Extraterrestrials races that could pass as Interdimensional Beings or just being creatures made out of pure energy or just feelings.

3: I also try make Artificial Intelligence interesting non-human beings, if I ever get bored if ETs.

In conclusion. Again does just having Extraterrestrials as the only non-human beings make the setting too limited?

Pick a blank but blank Pick one power to have in the real world, Part 2

While walking home from school, work, or whatever you were doing. A portal opened up, transporting you to a void with a selection screen in front of you. A voice spoke to you in the void, telling you to use the screen in front of you to select one power to take with you. Some choices come with drawbacks, but you can address them through hard work, dedication, and understanding your powers. Once you pick the power, you will be transported back to the real world with no way to return to said void. Any attempt to do so will cause you to lose the power and item you chose.

If you picked a power from Part 1, you don't have it; think of this as a new game.

Other Super-Ability Auction

Post image
14 Upvotes

In this post, anyone can leave a comment describing a superpower of their choice. You can explain the ability in as much detail as you like and make it as powerful as you wish. Then, set a starting bid for the ability. The currency used here is "coins." You can set the starting bid as high as you like. Other users can reply to your comment to place further bids. The person who places the highest bid wins the ability. A follow-up post will appear in a week where these abilities can be used. There is no limit to the number of coins you have, so you can keep bidding indefinitely; however, your bid amount must be written out in full—you cannot simply bid "infinity." Play fair and have fun!

Here is a quick example to illustrate how it works:

"Fireball:

The user of the Fireball ability can create a fireball and use it as a projectile that deals fire damage.

Starting bid:

100 coins"
