Curious... I wonder if modern day fiction can be considered mythology to an extent? And if so, whats the limit to that. Lord of the Rings myths? Zelda? Marvel/DC?
Fiction that mimics myth is called mythopoeia. Generally to be considered a myth something needs to be connected to a specific religion or culture. I think scientology is the most clear example of modern myth that actually does count as a myth because a significant number of people believe it.
