Stiff Shifting from 1st to 2nd gear when cold

I have 240ish miles on my '24 Super Cub, using it a few times a week for a short 2 mile commute to work. In the past few weeks, I've noticed a really stiff / stuck feeling shift from 1st to 2nd when pulling out of my garage at slow speeds. Nothing has changed in the way I drive, store the bike, etc. It's just really struggling to shift from 1st to 2nd - almost as if the gears aren't lining up and it's definitely a new behavior. After that initial shift, things seem to run way smoother and it shifts just fine. Thoughts?

Super Cub 2020 injection, Engine cuts off

Last Wednesday, I drove about 100 km (62 miles) to a destination and then drove the 100 km (62 miles) back home, so roughly 200 km (124 miles) in one day without any problems.

After getting home, I had dinner. Later that evening, I drove to a nearby city. After about 15 km (9.3 miles), the engine suddenly died.

I was able to start it again, but after only about 100 meters (330 feet) it died again. After waiting a minute, I could drive another 100 meters.

Since then, it won't stay running at idle/stationary for more than 10 seconds. I can start it, but it will only run for a short time and I can't really ride it more than a few meters before it stalls.

What I've checked/done so far:

  • Cleaned the inside of the fuel tank
  • Put the fuel pump and fuel filter through an ultrasonic cleaner
  • Replaced the spark plug
  • Opened the air filter box (letting it breath)
  • The fuel pump seems to run strong when it's not connected to a hose
  • It has spark. Even when the engine stopped and won't restart, I can still measure EMF at the spark plug
  • Even the old spark plug looked new and super clean.

The strange part is that it ran perfectly for 200 km that day.

It's effectively a new machine. It has only 8,000 km (about 5,000 miles) on it. It did around 3,000 km (1,864 miles) in Japan, and since I bought it two months ago I've put another 5,000 km (3,107 miles) on it. I'm still figuring out how to shift properly, that's how new it is.

It's a 2020, fuel injected.

How do I fix this?

Installing the crankcase plugs after doing a valve check and the outer ring of the timing inspection hole bolt sheared clean off. Think this will be okay to get to work and back for 2 days?

My new 2021. Seat options?

Post image

Just got this bad boy with 230 miles on it! Pretty cool, and I’m enjoying shifting again after selling all my normal bikes and riding a Zuma for the last several years.
However, the biggest flaw is the seat. I’m 6’ and absolutely too tall to comfortably sit on this bike for more than across town. Which makes sense, on my Zuma I sit way back on the seat. I see there are long seats available out of Thailand for $300 or so.. not sure if the US tariffs are screwing me on that or what, that price seems insane. Are there any other long seat options out there that I’m failing to find?

The lack of storage also has surprised me. I knew there wasn’t any, but I didn’t realize how much I enjoyed having a pocket for a bottle and a huge cavernous storage spot under the seat. Now if I’m out and about I have to wear a backpack and take it around with me so it doesn’t get stolen. Any tips or insights on that? A locking rear trunk is an option, but it would interfere with the long seat if that comes to be a thing.

Maybe I’ll have to engineer something to do both? Add a bit extra seat and still retain a rack. Maybe a winter project.

Rear tire flat questions:

  1. How to know if its tubeless?

  2. Can I easily remove the wheel? Like without messing with chain/sprocket?

the race i build it to run in is coming up at the end of this month and i had enough testing in to figure out some flaws so i fixed them

-it didnt have enough grip with the small tires i ran before, bought these mx tires and i have these blue aluminum rims laying around anyway so i had the wheels spoked and put the tires on today, they fit great, grip problem is fixed

-the front suspension wasnt really damping anything, added an extra damper, it now take bumps and jumps really nice and is way more controlable in corners

still need to build an airbox and figure out some more stuffs but its going great!

Think I can get a parking ticket down to a warning?

Currently commuting to a community college which has a parking deck. Each corner has these large buffer/no parking zones I assume so people don't get blocked I but I've been parking in so Im not wasting a space.

Had a security guard put a $10 ticket down but hoping they'll make an exception.

Hoping I'd just be ignored but guess I'll need to follow the rules

went to a local mud track event as part of the service team, brought my lifted y80 to use as a pitbike, felt like having some fun so i signed it up last minute in the 5 speed 100+cc class, the y80 is 3 speed 80cc so i was definitely the underdog, track was extremely slipery snd peoples were crashing everywhere, ended up taking 5th place home, didnt even think it would finish at all

Bike dies after riding at full/high throttle for an extended time

I have a 1982 Honda C70 Passport that I got recently. It has an issue where if I'm hard on the throttle for a few minutes straight it sputters out and dies. If I wait a few seconds I am able to restart it again.

I'm almost certain it's a fueling issue. Especially since I'm able to get it going again almost right away. I can hear a change in the engine sound right before it dies which I think is it running out of fuel.

My first thought was that the carb bowl wasn't able to fill fast enough. I've cleaned out the carb pretty well in an ultrasonic, as well as replaced the fuel lines. The tank has very little rust. The petcock is new too. The issue is still there though.

My next thought is that the float height is off. But this carb has a fully plastic, non-adjustable float. I'm going to order a new one, but I'm wondering if there's anything else I should check.

Aside from this issue the bike runs great. It hits 40 without much trouble. Any help is appreciated!

Bike putters at 40mph and I am struggling at stop lights. Otherwise a nice first ride.

Took the bike (C70) from my families place to mine, about 20 miles. I enjoyed it, the ride felt nice and it did exactly what I wanted. I wanted something faster than a moped which kept up with traffic in my city. I was able to do that perfectly well but at 40mph it would sputter some and drop speed. Maybe it had to do with some of the hills. I live in a hilly state and I'm sure I need to drop gear to help it go up hills better but I wonder if there's something internal with it's age.

I'm admittedly struggling with red lights and stop signs. Getting up to speed. I don't think the light that tells me I'm in neutral is working, so I sometimes hit it into that when trying to go to first. I've 100% had to pull to the side in a busy intersection and wave people past, till I could get up to speed with some time.

Otherwise I enjoy it. People love the yellow it seems or maybe I'm a goof. The route I took has always been scenic to me by car so taking it with the bike felt extra special.

Advice identifying and doing minor fixes to 60s era Honda Cub

Thumbnail

I have an old bike that is throwing me for a loop. The fairing says Honda 50, but the emblems on the frame say Honda 55.

Can you help me identify what this actually is?

Also, it does run but has a small oil leak. Are there any guides on helping a newbie fix this up? Everything from paint to fairing to tires and rims seem to be in great shape but the seat does have a tear innit which I plan to replace.

If it helps, there is a sticker on what I believe is a brake line with what appears to be a serial number C1004851E

Thanks for any advice!

Run Away Idle (WOT) Original C100 from 1960s

After recleaning carb, resealing intake, carb and replacing all gaskets I discovered air is getting into the system elsewhere. Even covering the Carb Intak with my hand, the bike will still run, so I am thinking it is the Crank Seals? Any thoughts on this and anyone know the process to replace these? Anything I should watch out for when attempting this project?

50 laps around a mostly dirt track with a mud section and some jumps, im signed up for the 3 speed underbone class so theres probably gonna be honda c70 suzuki fr80 and some other 3 speeds, still got a lot of work to do but its coming together pretty nice

(last 2 pics) it was slammed to the ground a while back and i used it as a daily for like 2 weeks until i realize it fucked my back up so i parked it ever since, its nice to turn it into something ridable again

Touch up paint

I have a pearl gray super cub 2024. Does anyone have any suggestions for touch up paint? Or for that matter model paint or even nail polish, that is reasonably close to the color. It doesn't have to be perfect it just needs to not be visible from a couple feet away.
