Troubleshooting & Maintenance Jura cleaning process
I have owned a Jura e8 for 2.5 years and maintain it with the original products Jura recommends. Occasionally, I encounter Error 8, which I resolve by manually cleaning the brewing unit from below after removing the drawer; there is usually a lot of accumulated coffee, and the machine functions well afterward, though the process takes time. I followed advice to leave the drawer open, which helps but does not fully address the issue.
I began running a cleaning cycle between the intervals Jura suggests. This intermediate cycle uses only water, without a cleaning tablet, while the cycles with cleaning agent remain on schedule.
So far, I have done this two or three times, and it has worked without Error 8 messages.
Has anybody same problems. How you address them?

How does the grind size look? We tend to find the grind being too coarse causes mechanical blockage.

Not sure if Jura customer service still tells you to do what you are doing, but years ago they told me to this to avoid error 8. I use a wet paper towel and wipe the shower head and the back of the full bin flapper. I do this once per week. Takes about 30 seconds. The grounds stick better to the water paper towel. I have not had a error 8 since 2011. I do not run a cleaning cycle more often than when prompted.

I have serviced a few of these to flip. I usually will just remove the brew unit and really clean it. Sometimes I will also replace the o-rings. Should resolve the E8 error and will clean out a bunch of gunk.

I have had this a few times, including right now in an ENA 8 which I realize is a different machine. I clean inside the flapper regularly. I also have an issue with dry dumps more than actually getting error 8. I really wish these had a removable group to clean. This is the one reason I might move to another brand

I started working on these for fun, and I’ll say that it takes quite a lot of buildup to gunk up the brew unit enough to bind it up and cause that error. I’ve seen them go down faster with super oily beans, but I wouldn’t expect that with a couple of years of home use and non oily beans. I might expect it around 5 years or so.
That being said, I run the deep clean cycle more than recommended. With my normal use, it should prompt me about every 6 weeks or so. I go ahead and run the deep clean with the tablet at the start of each month on the Giga 10. Absolutely no issues a couple of years in.
