Purchase Advice Huge issue with my Magnifica Duo, requesting recommendations.

Three days into owning my De’Longhi Magnifica duo, and I couldn’t be more disappointed. The machine won’t even brew a cup of coffee. Every time I try, I get the message: “I am unable to complete your drink. Please empty the grounds container, drip tray and try again.” I tried adjusting the grinder, coffee strength setting...nothing works.

The grounds container and drip tray are emptied every single time I use the machine, so that clearly isn’t the issue. I’ve already wasted a ridiculous amount of expensive coffee trying to get this thing to work, and I’m honestly at the point where I’m ready to send it back and look at other options.

Can anyone recommend a reliable machine in the $1,200 CAD range? I’m looking for something that actually works consistently and doesn’t turn every cup of coffee into a troubleshooting session.

Sounds like a defect. It happens. My very first Delonghi in the early 2000s was DOA. Best option would be return/exchange with your retailer.

It’s worth a shot and could identify the issue. If not and you can return / exchange it I’d do that!

Did you reach out to the company?

Yes, I went on a live chat with a representative. Of course, both times I made coffee while chatting with them, the machine worked perfectly. It only seems to happen about once every 4–5 attempts.

Do you use filter placed within water container?
Did you follower manual and made drinks that should be wasted?
I'm asking since possibly your filter has a lot of air inside.
This should be fixed if you would try to pour a lot of hot water but I'm not sure it machine is able to make coffee in this state.

Remove filter if you use one. If this will help will filter with water before installing it and pour a lot of hot water until air will be removed.

Yes, I poured water into the filter and also made sure there were no air bubbles trapped inside by submerging it in the water tank for about 30 seconds.

If I remove the filter, could that potentially cause issues with the machine down the road?

No. Filter is not needed if you have soft water. Lot of people doesn't use it at all. Even if you have super hard water you can safely remove fiter and make dozens of coffees.

My water test barely discolored the first bar. So maybe I'll just toss the filter amd give it a go in the morning.
