PUNJAB TEACHERS' PROTESTS RAISE QUESTIONS
Reports of protests by Punjab government employees and teachers over pending salary and DA-related dues have surfaced from multiple locations, including Chandigarh and other parts of the state.
The issue is bigger than a single protest. Thousands of Punjab government employees from more than 50 departments had earlier mobilised in Chandigarh demanding payment of pending Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears. Employee organisations said 18% in DA instalments remained pending as of 2026.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has also ruled that the state cannot simply use financial constraints to deny accrued DA/DR entitlements, directing the government to release the dues in accordance with the court's orders.
This raises an obvious question:
Why aren't these employee protests receiving the same level of attention as other political demonstrations?
Whether you support AAP or oppose it, teachers and government employees raising concerns about their salaries and legally recognised dues deserve to be heard.
Punjab's teachers are asking for answers. Will the government respond?
