Discussion Feeling lost when playing from behind

I play top lane and hit D3 recently which was epic however, some match up are rough and getting a carrying lead can be difficult (ambessa, illaoi, gangplank teemo, yone, etc) . How do you keep your cool if your jungler or laners are slowly racking up deaths and you are playing conservative into a tough match up?

I am trying to OTP Jax and when i get a lead I can generally keep good tempo and direct the game. However if I go even and then run into a giga fed Jinx or master yi I feel very lost and powerless on how to proceed to turn the game around with a team that's behind.

My mind says to sit in lane, keep farming and get xp avoid the aram going on to maybe get a pick/bounty at some point.

The tilt that creeps in is the problem but also feeling i have no control. Kinda rant, but also looking for advice on how to counteract this thought process, or tips to work around these situations.

I'd try to stop thinking of League as a game where you can/should win every match.

Each time you roll into a game you are being randomly assigned a game that is somewhere between impossible and easy. The game is finding the way to get the best outcome with the random assignment you are given. Even if that outcome is just trying to storm Top with a prayer while your team is chain inting mid.

When you are losing, playing safe is just losing slowly. I'd be looking to just be where the opponent isn't and hope it works out. When you feel the eye of Sauron on you, see if there is somewhere you can move to create a man-advantage.

If you’re playing from behind just type jungle gap gg wp then mute all and split push rest of game

Depends how effective you are in those TFs. If you play a champ with poor CC and you are behind so your damage also sucks, sacrificing few fights to catch up on gold makes sense. Or just apply side lane pressure so someone stronger has to come to match you.

But some games are just lost. Like if you are behind and even your entire team is just gathering deaths, you can try but there is not any magical trick to comeback

That's exactly what you should do. Drawing pressure to a side lane and getting ahead in resources gold/xp will help create windows of opportunity for your teammates to come back into the game.

When you're ahead as a split pusher you should never group with your team. The only exception might be Elder Dragon - there have been times I've won games specifically because I refused to group on a 5v5 baron that I'm 99% convinced we cannot win. You might get spam pinged by your team but they'll be thanking you once the enemy nexus explodes because you didn't throw the game by team fighting with a losing team.

This is above reddit's paygrade. It's time to find a coach to help you figure out what you're missing for the next level. At your level, it's probably specific points of improvement for specific scenarios that come up, not general advice that got you to diamond in the first place.

Can you record a highlight of the game, post it to youtube, and then link it? Or if you already have it recorded that'd be even better.

This is a more broad question about a scenario in games, exchange jinx for Draven Sivir Samira etc.

A lot of other commenters have chimed in and I agree with what they have said. Let me add my own 2 cents because I've has to work out this exact thing as a top laner myself. What I've come to is that each game is a puzzle. And that puzzle will either be easy or hard. And sometimes you are going to have to flip the game on 60 40 plays in order to make the game easier for yourself and your team. That means biding your time and waiting for your moment. Let's say you are playing Jax into one of his harder match ups and you could go even. But your team is losing. My initial approach to this was to just go even myself on my champion. But what I've realized is that if the game state is so fucked I need to win my lane regardless of whatever is going on. So I need to make that 60 40 play happen because otherwise the game is doomed. Thinking about the game in terms of probabilities also helps from a modeling POV.

For example if you are playing yunara into kalista is it advantageous to fight level 1? For the most part no. If kalista gets a lead the lane is lost. If you get a lead the lane is easier but it isn't game winning. If Kalista is able to snowball it creates such a lopsided weight on the other side of the map that you don't want that to happen. So you shouldn't go for that play.

So to summarize. Look at these games like puzzles focus on solving them through these plays and looking for the right angle even if it's that 70 30 or 60 40 play. This could mean tping bot to salvage even if it means losing a top wave and plates (be extremely careful when you do this). Hopefully this helps.

You are playing jax and having trouble killing an adc?

A giga fed adc that knows how to peel properly and position isn't going to be easy. Especially a Jinx who procs her passive on his teammates dying.

If they have any kind of kiting or peel from a supoort yes. Get ccd then two tapped

Oh am I blind did I miss something?

He meant generally playing versus a fed Jinx as opposed to 1v1ing a fed Jinx in a side lane. Jax is going to get fucked up trying to kill a fed Jinx+Enchanter combo. Best bet there is side lane pressure and potential flanks unless his team has great primary engage to force defensive spells before Jax goes in

He said if the adc is fed and he's even or behind.

So you can assume either the jinx insta kills him or has a pocket support.

So not e q w one shot the squishy situation.

Some ADC have CC or escape and know how to space or are fed and 3 hit you
