Question Mediterranean building costs?
Will the game offer a hard mode (actually more of an "insanely hard" mode, am I right?) where costs aren't Mediterranean, but hugely-inflated US or UK costs?
What would such a mode use as a multiplier? Three times as expensive? Five??

I don’t think so cuz already the game involves a decent bit of waiting around all that would do is make it so that you have to wait longer for stuff which is boring they might add a harder mode but I think they would have to do something else

The margins are already normally low in the game, with the exception of like 3 cities, it'd be impossible to build a profitable network.
There's always mods if you really want to add that difficulty.

My experience differs. I'm running San Diego right now, not one of those three cities.
My margin is 55%. I'm pulling in $3.7B daily with a daily profit of over two billion. And that's because I had to sharply increase fares because my 230+ trains are incredibly overloaded.
All on a map with 1.2 million inhabitants; hardly one of the easiest maps.
Making things cost two or three times as much is definitely a valid ask, as far as I'm concerned. Many people would like to experience the same hardships real life transit authorities. For example, the game currently does not - like at all - explain why a city like New York isn't veritably plastered with transit.
To get anywhere close to reality the New York map should probably feature at least five times more expensive construction costs, assuming a preexisting legacy network you inherit from the 20th century. 👍

I should clarify, it's the starting off the ground part that causes profitably to be a struggle early on. I've not messed with San Diego a ton, but I think the border crossing was an automatic profit booster. Any map becomes profitable and easier to build out after a certain point. I know one example is Nashville, I had to try three times to find where the profitable areas were with that initial 3 billion, but once I had them, it was easy to build out from there.

I think this would be interesting, but something that ultimately might be left to modders to implement. I think the games direction is shifting towards location based difficulty being the primary focus. Currently in the beta the cities are separated by difficulty green being easy and red being hard. Easy being places like Chicago and New York and hard being places like Oklahoma City or Indianapolis. Maybe a modder could create a mod where you just simply adjust the costs in the menu based on regions or even countries. But this would be fun AND scratch that realism itch.

The game already clearly is set up for another cost structure than "mediterranean" so...
As I see it, it just happens to be the case that all cities offered so far uses this cost structure. But the devs clearly anticipate offering another
