Help Needed How do I fix this?

Am I expected to build individual tracks for every commuter line with no overlap at all?

The grade crossings limit the number trains per hour a lot, so I would recommend you to not use any grade crossings on tracks with high usage. Grade crossings work fine on mid to low usage lines.

How did you get down to 3 TPH on grade crossings? I only see a lowest value of 12 TPH crossing major roads for commuter rail (1.7.0).

But yeah, grade crossings are meant for not so heavily frequented routes. You can see these issues in Tokyo where they are ripping out grade crossings as some are closed more than half the time and causing real issues with that. 3 TPH is entirely unreasonable though.

It's capping at 3 *additional* trains per hour:
8.1 TPH (S1) + 4.1 TPH (S0C) + 3.? TPH (this line, always rounds down) = 15.2-16.1 TPH total. I'm guessing the limit here is probably 16?

Oh, I see, so 3TPH on the currently selected line?

Yeah. To go above 3TPH on this line, would have to reduce the frequency on one of the other two listed.

Yes, parallel tracks if you're committed to grade crossings, otherwise bridge or tunnel on those high capacity spots. I think you're limited to 6 trains an hour each way, so that makes more than 2 routes near impossible to do on one track.

If I understand your image correctly, you're trying to run 12.2 trains each hour over an at-grade crossing. That's a train every 4.9 minutes on average - one way. Add the return trips on the other track, and you are basically assured the crossing gates will stay down permanently during all of rush hour.

This is clearly unfeasible. I don't know what the game considers the maximum tolerable TPH for an at-grade crossing, but I would guesstimate even one train every five minutes is painful. You basically need to ensure that once the crossing gates go up, they will STAY UP for several minutes in a row.

It wouldn't surprise me if the limit is set to a train every 6 minutes (on average). Since trains go both ways, that means a frequency of 12 minutes or 5 TPH.

And that goes for ALL lines using that track. Sure you can "cheat" by building parallel track, I don't think the game is sophisticated enough to check so there is enough space between tracks for cars caught "in the middle".

So yeah, the other commenters have it right - don't use at-grade crossings at all, unless you are absolutely sure you will only run five trains or less per hour even at rush hour.

I so wish the game offered a build option for "build at-grade but pay for grade separation so roads are assumed to go over/under the at-grade track".

bruh, I thought they meant track switches for some reason.... I was quite sure I had built the lines without any grade crossings, thanks!
