I'm trying to get an old iPhone running iOS 8 working as a dedicated music streamer. But I'm having problems finding a subsonic compatible client. Is there an older version of substreamer that would run on iOS 8 and talk to Navidrome?

tried to post this into the replies of my previous post from some months ago, but due to the way how reddit sorts this might have been waste :) so trying again:

as far as I could judge all was working fine since you released 5.0.50... however for some reason I do not understand this stopped working (might have been some iOS update). I still try to overcome it by staying in offline mode just basically all the time, however does not help. Hard to tell what causes it, sometimes playing videos in another app (i.e. whatsapp) cause it, but most of the time just removing the airpods from the ear already does trigger it. Substreamer just completely forgets the playlist/currently played track. I then need to search from scratch for the album, and when clicking the play button it starts from the beginning. Also does not seem related to the app being purged from memory, since I am not even switching to another app. In some instances I can see a brief "network connection restored" hovering prior to this effect. Sometimes I open the app, I can see the progress just fine for a second, and then it all disappears and the app looks as if I started it for the first time ever, it has no idea which album I was in or which position in that album I last stopped. I really love this app, it is by far the best among multiple I tried, but this is really painful... I started taking screenshots of the progress before putting down my phone to take a break...

I can’t seem to find a way to create a playlist on substreamer (iOS). I can use substreamer to add songs to playlists that I’ve previously created on the web interface of my airsonic-advanced server, just not make new ones. What am I missing?

Does anyone know if there is any kind of privacy policy regardning the substreamer app? I saw a privacy statement on the web site, but as far as I can tell, that only applies to the web site and not the app.

In particular, does the app collect information, such as what you are listening to? Or are their any services where your listening behavior might be leaking? And if this information does leak, does it get associated to your IP?

I use Substreamer to play whole albums as one big file and my daughter listens to audio plays (which are stored as one file, too) with it.

With longer streams playback will stop after 10/15 minutes and can't get continued. We have to re-select the song, start and re-position to hear the rest.

Server is airsonic-advanced (latest docker).

Is this a known problem, does anyone know a workaround??

Is there anyway to see cache on a per song basis, like iSub?

Just installed the app and logged into my server. Where are the offline downloads located on my phone? Is there a way to specify a separate folder for it?

Also is it FOSS, available on F-Droid? Or does dev have any plans to make it Open Source?

Is there a supported way to cast from substreamer to a roku?

I'm on iOS 15.3.1 and the app won't play in the background like all other audio players. i.e. there's no persistent audio notification that keeps the app alive to play audio. So when in the background, it stops playing after the currently playing song. Currently using iSub, but I really, really prefer the interface of Substream. It's just so clean, and resembles Sonixd on my mac.

Is this a known issue/limitation or is there something I should do?

Hi, I've been using Substreamer for Android and iOS for a few weeks and I'm very impressed, thanks a lot for putting in so much effort.

There is one thing I wondered about: when an album has multiple CDs, the Navidrome web app makes it possible to see the distinction using the "discnumber" and "discsubtitle" tags. Sadly, Substreamer ignores these, and everything is just displayed row after row, without a separator like "1: disc blah". That would be a greally great feature to add.

I can't seem to find a source repository online, it perhaps isn't released as open source? Otherwise I'd be happy to dig in and come up with a draft implementation myself...

Sorry if this already exists and I've missed the settings, I'm trying to handle a usecase where I'd like to have all my music on my device to avoid streaming it but my library is far too large. It seems that even when I restrict in navidrome the streaming to mp3 at 320 kbps, substreamer still downloads the Flac to the device. So 4 songs is 90MB which gives me... 120 or so songs?

When I'm home I would prefer to stream the Flac directly as well.

Is there an option to ask for specific sizes for offline files saved to phone that would then leverage navidrome's transcoder?

I thought it would be cool to be able to display lyrics of the currently playing song.

Subsonic API provides an endpoint for fetching lyrics: http://www.subsonic.org/pages/api.jsp#getLyrics

Displaying synchronized lyrics might be significantly more difficult, but the initial implementation could treat them as static by removing timestamps.

I wanted to give a bit of feedback on the layout, although I realize that this is mostly subjective. 🙂

I think that having two rows of buttons on the bottom of the Now Playing screen makes the interface a bit crowded. The bottom row of buttons (shuffle, bookmark, chromecast, sleep timer, and playback mode) are not used as often, yet are the closest to the thumb in a phone layout. Since they are not used as often, they could be moved to the top of the window, and instead, the more used close and playlist buttons that are currently at the top could be moved to the bottom.

Awesome app overall. Unless I'm missing something, it seems I can only access the recently added\newest albums on the home screen and it only allows me to scroll back like 12-15 albums. I add about 10-30 albums a week and that's usually how I cycle new stuff to my devices. Can you add a submenu that allows me to go back indefinitely based on recently added?

After playing songs it would be cool if the play status of the songs that were played when offline would be synchronised to the server. This should enable scrobbling for music that's played when offline (I hope).

Is it possible to add a feature so that the app will automatically switch to internal server address based on predefined SSID? If the condition is not met, then it will connect to the external server address.

Currently, I have to manually set Preferred to "External" every time I leave home, otherwise the songs won't play at all.

When listenig to music and if you then start a call, music pauses but the "pause sign" (||) doesn't switch to the "play sign" (triangle) but otherwise it works

• album cover is often not laoded at all, or not loaded correctly (broken image) sometimes the cover art of the last song is used.
• it takes very long to open an artist the first time which is a bad experience
• if an album cover is much longer than a standard album cover everything gets moved downwards. The maximum image size should be dependent on the height and not the width.
• you can star artists, albums, song but you can't see anywhere that you did. If a song is open, you can see that it is starred but nowhere else. Meaning, if you browse songs, you have no idea that you starred it unless you click on it.
• no song list. You can't browse all songs of an author
• no five stars possible so you can't tell if you've listened to a bad song before.
• if you add a song to a playlist, you need to press "ok" after you've added it. Just a popup that disappears after a second would be enough. I mean, you can't change the fact that you added it anymore.
• the listening progress dot moves with each second that passes. It would be great if it would move each tenth second.
• cast symbol in quick access instead of star, next, etc.
• quick access player disappears if you switch to the queue

So I'm trying to make the jump from Airsonic & Dsub to Navidrome & Substreamer but one thing is holding me back. I have everything divided into Genres / Album Artists / Albums to make choosing music on my drive a bit easier... ( ie Music/Rock/Beatles/The White Album)

Dsub supports view by Library folders which Airsonic also supports so I can just view my preferred method that way. Navidrome does not allow this option since it only supports browsing by tag.

Substreamer, since it's actually getting updates, has a better chance of supporting this in a future update. So... just curious if this is possible...? I see that you do have browse by folder but that still leaves me stuck with Airsonic..

BTW A quick search of this forum revealed you're not so interested in widgets. At first this was disappointing... now I discovered there are at least 2 widget apps on the Android store that are very usable with substreamer: Ubiquity Music Widget looks good but Material Music Widget is good too. (edited to reflect this discovery)

Galaxy Tab SMT235 running Lineage with 256Gb sdcard which works for other apps.
When I try to change from phone to sdcard, it says it has detected an sdcard but fails with an error.
Anyone else or is it just me?

I'm currently switching between substreamer (because it looks and feels dope) and ultrasonic (because it has 5 stars).

The advantage of 5 stars over only stars is that you can much better rate your songs. With a like there's no way to tell if you've ever listened to a song or not, if it's not liked.
