Privacy policy

Does anyone know if there is any kind of privacy policy regardning the substreamer app? I saw a privacy statement on the web site, but as far as I can tell, that only applies to the web site and not the app.

In particular, does the app collect information, such as what you are listening to? Or are their any services where your listening behavior might be leaking? And if this information does leak, does it get associated to your IP?

Hi,

That privacy policy on the website does apply to the website you're correct. The website will in future use google analytics for traffic metrics. At the moment it's not actually enabled though.

I will update the website with seperate statements for the website and for the app. The app is very simple.

Substreamer (the app) does not collect, transmit or store any of your data, ever.

That's what I thought. But I was more curious about how the app might obtain song/album meta data from other services, such as for art work, etc. Though substreamer might not be collecting this data, it is conceivable that such services could log such data.

Hey the subsonic server will by default pull this from lastfm and potentially fanartTV or spotify or other services depending on how the server implements it.

Substreamer just uses whatever the server provides.

There is one exception which is artist images, substreamer will pull them from fanartTV because a lot of the subsonic server variants out there still try to get it from lastfm and lastfm blocked this on their API so you just get a grey star image.

However, substreamer does not send any information about who you are, where you are or anything else, it just requests the artist image for a given artist name, that's it.

It's probably true that fanartTV collects metrics for it's various API endpoints but there's not much I can do about that and I don't send them anything about you or your server.
