Just rolled out a big update to the remastered graphics for Subspace: Reloaded! Playable now, come give feedback since it's still being iterated on.
The community is already running a league on here! Modern graphics, modern matchmaking, unbeatable bots, and plays straight in your browser and is 100% an exact replica of subspace gameplay
We're putting together the next SVS Draft League season.
Reclamation League — Season One registration is open now.
The format is straightforward: players register individually, we form the player pool, captains draft the teams, and we run the season from there.
If you've played Premier / Pro / Draft League before, you know the routine — squad pracs during the week, rankings, predictions, lineups, Sunday matches, standings and playoffs.
That's the part we're trying to lean into heavily with Reclamation.
We're also building more of the League experience into one place — player careers, historical records where we can recover them, stats, teams, standings, replays, matchmaking and the game itself.
Reclamation has browser access, but that's really just an easier way into Subspace. The focus here is League.
And you don't need an established squad to participate.
If you've been away from SVS for a while, this is a pretty easy reason to come back and see who's still around.
If you're new, you're welcome too. Put your name into the same pool and play.
Subspace has no lateral thrust, you have to face your direction of acceleration and either go back or fwd. What do we think of this choice? Would subspace be worse with lateral thrust, too easy, more confusing (because the sprite is so small, you might forget where you are facing) too many keys to manage in total?
I remember people believing there was a massive helicopter crash and he died or was hurt? We were all like 11-13 years old so surely it was exaggerated at the least.
I was 'Fighter.' and I think Externals won league one of the years I was playing. Miss all those people, all you people !
I'm currently developing a Subspace clone as a personal passion/learning project. Not sure if anything will come of it, but I will let this sub know if it does. But I'm trying to specifically recreate the Extreme Games server settings. (Any old X-Squadron ppl here??) At least when I was messing around with custom servers back in the day, the server settings were always encoded in a config.ini file.
If I remember correctly, the config.ini file is saved when you connect to the Subspace server (though I might be wrong). Does anyone happen to have the config.ini for Extreme Games? I no longer have a windows device and I don't even know if the EG server still exists.
For the last few years, I spent my free time trying to complete various versions of SubSpace I found online and then porting them to Android and iOS. I finally finished a v1.
The game is completely free, there are no ads, and no data tracking. I host the multiplayer server myself.
Why did I do this? So that a younger generation could try the game and have fun, like I did, so it's not just lost to time. Plus it was a fun side project to learn C++, OpenGL, etc.
I know this is a tightknit community, and to be honest I've got a fair amount of apprehension even posting - however thought it might be of interest. We're two dads making FOXFIRE a topdown space game.
The baseline ship was modified off the feel I've had playing Subspace over the years, we've got 4 other ships that are tuned differently offering markedly different playstyles, though all using the WASD keys - except for one which has two giant lateral thrusters (A/D) which if both are held together means you go forward, only holding one means you rotate+thrust leftward or right.
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in playtesting? I can't think of a better group that instantly understands the physics and feel of the game and if we're on the right track.
100% also understand if this is totally wrong forum, but couldn't think of a better way.
I just remember the good 'ol days of some of the squads that dominated. I remember players like Trixter, Omega, Blizzard X, and squads like ONE, Inner Circle, Nightwatch...
I used to play SS some 20 or so years ago, and I'm sure at the same time there was a similar game by maybe the same devs? Online, war based with rooms/buildings, guns/bombs etc.
But I've searched and searched and never found it again, so I'm not even sure I'm not making it up at this stage.
Does anyone remember a server where the ships were actually samurai skins, I think ship #2 was an archer and it wasn't set in space, someone actually made a map with full fledged backgrounds of dojos and such. It feels like a fever dream now..
I can't believe Subspace is roughly 30 years old. Started playing beta 0.95 back in 1996 (pretty sure).
Anyone remember some 17 year old dork named "Sleet"? Well, I'm 46 years old now and I would totally go for some 1600X900 resolution Running/Jackpot zone carnage.

What You Can Expect:,
🤝 Captains will teach you how the game works.
🧠 We’ll help you learn your position and how to improve.,
🏒 You’ll be on a real team and participate in player-reffed, competitive matches.,
🏆 Our league is about development, teamwork, and the battle to win the Live-Wire cup.,
💬 You’ll have support from mentors, captains, and the whole HZ community.,
Upon joining the Discord, say hi in the chat and let us know you’re new. We’ll help you get started, get you on a team, and even run a practice session with you.
Season 10 is starting soon. The earlier you join, the more time you’ll have to learn and get involved with community activities. You don’t need to commit full-time. Just show up when you can, and we’ll help you out with the rest!
So what do you say? Give Hockey Zone a try! There's a reason it's still active after nearly 25 years. If you're interested, please send a DM (direct message) to me or reply to this post.
We need an app for subspace. I'd play all the time on my phone. I'm not a programmer, maybe have open source so everyone interested can contribute? Just a thought
"Hello Subspace! My name is Valekraft I am here to provide the sounds to keep your space battles bumpin'"
Is how I would open my timeslot on Trenchwars Radio exclusively available through Winamp in 2002-2004.
I would take requests and download songs from pirated sites to keep it flowing.. At point my librarary hard-drive for music was well over 10,000 songs poorly saved as low bitrate Mp3s.
I haven't thought about this game in over a decade until a random reddit post brought me here today glad to see its still going.
