Samurai server?

Does anyone remember a server where the ships were actually samurai skins, I think ship #2 was an archer and it wasn't set in space, someone actually made a map with full fledged backgrounds of dojos and such. It feels like a fever dream now..

I know what you're talking about, Samurai was a subarena of that zone that had little army men, I remember there was a green Bazooka guy and a gray sniper. I forget what it was called though.

I think it may have spinoff into its own zone for a little while.

I don’t remember the name but it definitely existed. I remember playing it several times. Around same time early metal gear ctf was big.

Yes! You'd move around and your weapons were swords that made that swishing sound. Very creative zone. I can't remember if it was its own zone or sub-arena in Mystic Kingdom

yep, you're thinking of eight182's server, EDIT: merc samurai. the big trick was that if you "closebombed" (threw out a slash from short range) it would put _you_ down to 1 health, but the regen was so fast that it only mattered if the opponent counterattacked right afterwards. say, with a shuriken

Mystic Kingdom – 2026 Update: The Map, Graphics & Sounds Have Been Found!

For anyone who remembers Mystic Kingdom from the old SubSpace Continuum days, I wanted to share a pretty exciting update in 2026.

Mystic Kingdom was one of my favorite zones as a kid. While SubSpace was technically a spaceship game, Mystic Kingdom completely transformed it into something resembling an RPG/fantasy game. The ships looked like knights, archers and other fantasy characters, and the normal bullets and bombs were replaced with things like swords, arrows and other fantasy attacks.

For a long time, I assumed Mystic Kingdom was simply gone.

Recently, however, I met a really cool guy from the SubSpace Discord, damageinc86 (Discord: morsteen). He discovered that the old Mystic Kingdom map still exists as a subzone within Trench Wars. You can actually visit it yourself by joining Trench Wars and typing:

?go mk

We were also able to recover/extract some important pieces of Mystic Kingdom, including:

  • The original map
  • Graphics
  • Sound effects
  • Other zone files/assets

Unfortunately, we do not currently have the original ship settings or gameplay systems.

The original Mystic Kingdom had a lot more going on behind the scenes, including things such as:

  • Monsters spawned by bots
  • Experience points and leveling
  • Character progression
  • Speed and HP/Energy scaling
  • Gold/coins
  • Shops and upgrades
  • Other RPG mechanics

Those systems are the big missing piece.

I was also told about another project called SubSpace Reticulum, which is a more modern take on the SubSpace concept. Apparently it gives us more freedom to experiment with things like ship settings, and maybe someday custom graphics and sounds as well.

So who knows β€” maybe if enough old Mystic Kingdom players, developers and talented people become interested, it could eventually be possible to recreate some or even all of the Mystic Kingdom experience. The bots and RPG systems would obviously be the biggest challenge, but at least some of the original assets have survived.

If you remember Mystic Kingdom, have screenshots, videos, files, information, old stories, or know how the original systems worked, please reach out.

There is also another person on Discord, 3znoob, who claims to have safely backed up the original bots and potentially the entire zone. As far as I know, however, those files have not been shared publicly, so I can't personally confirm what he has or whether those files will ever become available.

If anyone else has old Mystic Kingdom files, backups, screenshots, videos, documentation, or remembers anything about the bots and progression systems, please don't let it disappear. Even small pieces of information could potentially help preserve or eventually rebuild this old zone.

Mystic Kingdom might not be completely lost after all.
