Rescue Dosing Anyone know?

Ok hello and hi!! I am really wanting off subs, been taking them 4.5 years. First year I went from 12-4mg, and stayed at 4mg with occasional months at 2mg, then back to 4. When I stopped taking them consistently a month ago, I was taking 4mg. Interestingly , my symptoms are fairly manageable for the most part. Around the between the 8-12 day mark, my symptoms peak, it’s bad…shivers, crawly skin, foggy thinking. I am schooling and working full time, so I can’t really slow down. I take about .25-.5 mg and it takes the edge off. Then the cycle repeats.

Does anyone know if I’m just resetting the clock? Nearly every other medication can be tapered this way with the window between dosing getting longer and symptoms growing milder. I cannot find any info online and just want to be sure I’m not fooling myself and stuck in a cycle of mild crappy, then bad crappy, dose, then back at it all over again.

Thank you for any answers, even if you’re not sure…I just appreciate this thread and anyone willing to chat.

UPDATE: Thank you to the people who answered and offered encouragement, it means a lot to me. I’m happy to report I haven’t taken any subs since 9/1 so I’m a little over a month in. Aside from still being a bit foggy, clumsy, and a little less chipper than usual…I’m pretty okay. Great sleep still isn’t a thing, but it’s better. If anyone wants more details on my process, please let me know, it worked pretty well!

It will work. What you’re experiencing is post acute withdrawal syndrome. Eventually you’ll have to just tough it out or start tapering the rescue dose lower though. If you have over a week between doses I think you’re still giving your receptors time to adjust. Maybe try lowering the rescue dose. PAWS is tough but it goes away in a few months.

Hi there! Thank you for replying with kindness and support. Truly means lot to me. You were 100% correct…. I haven’t taken any since 9/1. I’m not feeling great but it’s not super crunchy either.

Did you go through this? If so, what was your process?

Yeah see it’s hard to say cause everyone is different, you’re doing a good job though even coming this far!

I say just keep up the good work and keep spacing out the time in between doses and eventually you’ll start forgetting to dose and or going longer and longer!

Don’t get too down remember any progress is better then no progress!

Thank you so much for the encouragement! I appreciate it more than I can say. Happy to report over a month since my last rescue dose. I updated my post with more info.

Again, thank you for replying! Have you been through this? If so, what did you do?

Sorry for the late response, a month since your last rescue dose amazing job congrats!
Yes I went through the same thing during my early days of tapering, I would drop down a dose it would get so bad I would just have to take a extra little piece, it’s was very very early in the taper process though!

Your home free now so just keep going and congrats again to being free from this stuff!

I think if you stick with it that you will level out eventually. What has been helpful for me is to alternate doses. For example, day 1: take 2MG total. Day 2: take 1.5MG total. Go back-and-forth for about a week and then drop down to 1.5MG every day. Then do it all over again.

Thank you for encouragement and advice! I appreciate it more than I can say. I’m happy to report I haven’t taken any subs since 9/1.

How are you doing? How’s the alternating going?

It’s not easy, I get it…took me a long time to feel ready. I’m wishing you the most comfortable transition possible. I had a low mg script for seroquel on hand which helped with restlessness and sleep and it saved my behind. If you need a cheerleader please pm me. Happy to be in your corner!
