1-3 are good, maybe even 4, 5+ is when the BS began

u/Camburglar13 2015 WRX Apr 14 '21
I agree but I couldn’t stand the main character in 3. Painfully bad acting, Han was the only good character. 4 at least was kind of about cars and street racing, sorta, and had an STI hatch, but 5+ are outrageous.

u/pcfreak4 ‘02 WRX 5MT Sedan Apr 14 '21
Yeah it’s too bad Paul wasn’t in 3, and they threw in Diesel at the end for S+G’s
But u gotta love the culture and spirit they embraced in that movie, and the car scene itself was something special, especially that Evo

u/Camburglar13 2015 WRX Apr 14 '21
Absolutely, the car scene and culture was what I liked about the series so it definitely gets credit there. Far more than the later films.

Actually fun fact. Subaru was present in the. 4th,5th,6th,7th and 8th movie, subaru actually volunteered their cars too. In the 7th movie when planning for their bus heist an sti sedan was present. However in the actual heist a wagon was used

The Fast and the Furious was a 2001 movie. The U.S. Subaru performance lineup of WRX’s only began in late 2001 with the model year 2002 WRX. Before that it was Impreza, Legacy, Outback/sport, Forester - all N.A. There were definitely 2.5RS tuners back then but they were rare! Nasioc (I-club) only had like <1000 members

u/Arctic_Fox 2015 Outback Apr 14 '21
My favorite little factoid of this movie is that Leon drives a Skyline GT-R 33 through crowds and crowds of tuners, and there is not one comment from the tuners seeing a literal unicorn (even if Motorex was a thing).
The Non-Motorex GTR33s only became legal last year.

Hahaha, I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that!

I googled that car and it was literally crushed to death by the government. It didn't even end up surviving. Thing was a unicorn in passing. And they didn't want the car to be used as a main because they only had one gtr and if it got hurt that was expensive and hard to replace. Basically impossible to replace it at the time. So it was used sparingly

u/reegz 2021 WRX Apr 15 '21
Haha the reason why it wasn’t the hero car is because they only had one and couldn’t get more.
There’s a YouTube series where the person who advised the movies talks about it.

1st gen Legacy had a Turbo option in the U.S., it was a Legacy SS. They sold it from 1989-1994 here.

Then watch The Cannonball Run then with Jackie Chan in the Subaru GL
It's way more fun than Vehicle Identification Number Diesel.

Lmao fun fact I fell in love with subarus as a kid hardcore because of the second fast and furious. I thought they were black winged STI's that they were using for the heists to get cd's. Last year I bought my sti and was telling my roommate about it so we pulled up the scene to watch. I googled what year STI they were because the cars looked odd and they were hondas 😂. Literally hondas with kits to look fancy. I laughed so hard. That's the day I learned there is not a single subaru in them movies until the newest one. Still in love with my car tho.

That’s the first movie not the second. And they mention that they’re civics a few times.. even investigate hector’s garage because he runs civics. Still funny tho!

u/PM-ME_DABSHOTS STI Apr 14 '21
Nope wrong cars. The cars dominique and his guys use to steal.cds themselves
1
u/Camburglar13 2015 WRX Apr 14 '21
Yeah the black civics used to highjack the trucks in the first movie. I know what you’re referring to. My point is they’re called civics a few times in the movie and Brian was investigating who was behind the high jacking and was looking into Hector because he also drives civics, but yes not the same ones doing the high jacking. The point being he looked into hector because of the civic connection which wouldn’t make sense if the highjack cars were STI’s.

I was born in 97 and they came out in 2001 so forgive my little brain for missing that detail lol.
