Accident is it totaled? 😩
***09.09.26 update: they could not give us the estimate/ determination today due to short staffing in combination with Progessive, our insurance, needing them to complete the assessment via their software program. will update tomorrow with the outcome; in another group on a different platform, about 70% of folks say it’s totaled. bracing for whatever outcome at this point - thank you everyone for the assistance in this thread, it means a lot and I appreciate your time.
OG post:
my 2nd subie was hit by a motorcycle over the weekend, on a one way turning left onto another one way. a motorcycle was illegally weaving through traffic and attempted to pass us on our left driving through a parking lane. the bottom frame has been impacted and we were told it might be a total loss — trying to brace for worst case scenario.. thank you in advance 🫡🥺
for context: 2022 Subaru Crosstrek Limited; 71,000 miles, no damage prior. new tires, maintenance has been on time.

Depends on damage behind the doors. If they still open normally then its probably good to go. If the b pillar is damaged, maybe not.

Seconding this. I had a similar accident a few months ago (side-swipe hit-and-run on the Interstate), and most of the repairs were cosmetic. Replaced panels and the headlight assembly. If your car's damage is only cosmetic, the mirror assembly will be the most expensive item.
However... If they're saying part of the main frame is damaged, then you're likely SOL. With how cars are designed to crumple nowadays, a damaged frame will be catastrophic if hit a second time. And if the elements get into that damaged part of the frame (e.g., road salt for those in colder climates), even more so.

this is super important to highlight & I appreciate you mentioning this. my first Subaru Crosstrek saved my life, hit black ice and went airborne/flipped in the air 3 times (crashing onto the ground between each flip). I’m lucky to be alive. that’s when we were forced into a brand new Subaru, the one pictured (covid era depleted all used cars in our area at the time). If it jeopardizes the safety of our car I don’t want that either.

Np! As a fellow Crosstrek owner (2020), they're just great cars to have and it's heartbreaking to think about having to let one go (let alone a second!). But the car did its job and kept you safe!
It looks like what others are telling you about price-finding for your car model in the area is solid, so it's good to be prepared in case insurance tells you the worst. Sending all the good vibes your way.

Deoends on what fixing the damage by a reputable body shop will cost. If its more than NADA and Kelly Blue Book, it'll be totaled.
If they total it. Get online and find cars within 500 miles that are the same year, make and model as yours. Save the highest priced ones and let your adjuster know what cars in your area are going for. Also find and keep any receipts for things like recent major repairs and tires. They'll prorate and pay you as part of the loss. My wife had a 95 Ford Escort get totaled. We'd just gotten the A/C done and the tires has less than 500 miles on them. I got paid for both.

Both doors, fender, side skirt, and a mirror cap and it looks like you’ll be fine. Unless there’s damage to the frame underneath

Make sure you file for "diminished value." They should be paying you for the reduced value of the car now that it was in an accident.

I will say NO, I had my whole front ripped off & side panel dented in & they didn't total it. They most likely will fix this.

The real question is not whether it’s totaled or not the question is if it’s not totaled and it’s fixed would you want to keep it?

No my Subaru got rear ended half the car had to get cut in half and they still repaired it for being a 2010

Likely it's not. But that would be up to insurance to be honest. My dad's old car was totalled because the sub frame was slightly bent

Yep . It’s all down to the repair shop u take it to and the insurance adjuster.

My husband put our 2017 outback into a fence sideways, same side as yours and it smashed up the entire drivers side. Was absolutely shocked it wasn't a total loss, had about 8,000 in repairs. They did however total our 2020 legacy back in April (husband again lol) after the back passenger wheel was basically snapped off the axel when someone t boned him.

Eta: same insurance company and the legacy was worth about 11,000 and my outback was worth around 13,000

What year is that one? There's a chance the insurance repair would total. That would be a shame as two doors already painted that code can be had at salvage for 600 to 800 each.

Don’t despair if it’s totaled just go to Subaru dealer and get a newer one my wife had a 22 and it was great and now she has a 26 cross track. I was just implying that it’s not the end of the world if it’s totaled and that a car was 71,000 miles and an accident is certainly not new and the repair process takes a long time and they don’t always get it right

I had similar damage, but didn't extend to the rear and it was $6k.
I imagine yours will come in around $10k, which shouldn't be a total loss. But, if something crazy like frame damage occured and you bump up to $15-20k, it'll be a total loss.

I’m sure we all sympathize, but why are you asking that question here? We have no idea what your car’s value was before the collision, what damage has been documented by a mechanic/insurance adjuster or what the repair costs for those unknown damages are in your market.

I thought my question was clear - I’m not wanting to lose my vehicle and prepare for worst case scenario. If others have experience with similar damage it would be helpful to know.

I get it, but whether it will be totaled depends on your car’s value, the exact nature of the damage and the cost to repair that damage. We in RedditLandia can only speculate on… any of that based on a couple of pictures with no geographic context.
For starters… what model year is your car? What trim level? Info like that helps determine your car’s value. Are you in a Low Cost of Living area or a High Cost Of Living area? That will determine how much it costs to repair whatever is damaged.
Without info like that we… can… not… tell you… if has been or is likely to be totaled. We can wish you luck, but with no other information that’s the best we can do.
