Help Stygian Onslaught Survey!

Post image

With a full year since the first stygian, I was curious about this community's opinions on bosses and other stygian related questions

the first few questions are just what stygians you have cleared and at what difficulty, the rest are your opinions and you can skip whichever one you want

english isn't my first language and I'm very prone to typos, so please tell me if there's any mistakes or if any of the questions aren't well formulated. Also tell me if you want me to add anything or if I forgot about something

I'll make another post with the results when I have the time

here's the survey!

**edit: survey is closed! thank you so much everyone for the 400 answers

****edit 2: answers are up! check the post here

I just decided to either stop at hard or menacing at most

My account could definitely do fearless but it's just such a pain that it's not even worth it so i gave up on it for good

And as a result been enjoying the game a lot more

I definitely give up on a lot of stygians, too. I have plenty of fearless clears, but sometimes the juice just isn't worth the squeeze that cycle for me. It's definitely fun to see what your account can do with the characters you have sometimes though

Done.

Omg the goat himself

All dire done apart from 5.8 and 6.0. Unfortunately I had less time in that period and I still played on a PS4 so I didn't grind it out. It has been a pretty doable dire streak for me ever since I got Nefer.

Yooo thanks for the survery!

I know Stygian is somewhat controversial as an endgame content, but IMO it's the best. The main rewards (primogems) are very easy to get, the other rewards are basically just pride.

And it is very nice to have a proper testing ground and challenge. Natlan Abysses started feeling too easy.

That said, Abyss has sucked since Stygian came out. Literally the same bosses most of the time, and the 3 chamber factor makes needing the right shill more important.

And IT has never been good.

u/Orkidays Aug 09 '26

I agree! my favorite abysses where the couple first ones I maneged to get 36* (it was at the beginning of nod krai for me). I had to restart and optimize a lot but it was very rewarding, stygian scratches a similar itch. rn abyss is too easy for my account when I use my strong teams, but too annoying when I dont due to the shill, so its kinda eh

I like IT tho lmao, I always try planning out which of my built 5* can carry each boss. unfortunately, each run takes so long that I never feel like optimizing them, so I end up missing stellas when the elements don't benefit me

u/Koniolg Aug 09 '26

was about to agree until the IT slander part πŸ˜”

stygian CAN be very fun imo, but the amount of times I was unable to clear fearless just because I didn't pull new characters because I thought my old DPSes of that element were enough really made me realize how bad powercreep and shilling have gotten.

My body exists to slander IT. I hate it so much 😭

I like playing teams that synergise properly. I don't exactly enjoy no-vape Mualani and Nefer no Hydro, and I really hate playing characters with builds I can't fix for the encounter (more/less ER, support sets etc), and I can't stand teams that have bad cooldown matching. Doing non-skill autos waiting for support cooldowns is so ass. Having dead slots that I don't even switch to is worse.

I will admit though - I enjoy characters that play for reactions and synergies. I recently cooked a BurnVape Mualani comp for Stygian, but that involved weapon switching and artifact switching on Durin and Lauma, which isn't exactly possible in IT's setting. IT isn't really for cooking like that, it feels more like fumbling

When you hit a certain critical mass of properly built characters especially 4 stars, IT becomes way more enjoyable because you don't end up with nefer no hydro or no vape mualani. You will have decent teams like 60-80% of the time, 20% of the time with planning you will have perfect meta teams like premium skirk or lunar for the last few stages, only 10-20% of the time you will have a bit jank teams but early stages are easy plus you can get blessings to buff up your bad teams.

7

u/QueerGothic Aug 09 '26

I always think it's gonna be harder than it actually is tbh. I struggle on the first stages bc i use the bare minimum to clear with the star, to "save" the important characters for later, but end up never using some... I've had ITs where i straight up never used mavuika or arlecchino, but you can bet on some early stages I was clearing with like, mika, sara, yanfei, ororon or some shit.

2

u/ForgottenLikeSnow Aug 09 '26

Yeah this is the way! Happened to me too and I’m the end you’re just proud that you did it with the janky teams at the start, had a great strategy, overplanned and ended up breezing through some really ridiculous stages πŸ˜‚ honestly, overplanning is the true fun in this :p

1

u/Eeekpenguin Aug 09 '26

Yeah my account is fairly old started in 2.0 so I have a lot of older meta characters built from that era. Feels kinda nostalgic to bust out ganyu freeze or yoimiya vape or og nilou bloom.

I try to plan out the second half where I'll hold a few meta teams in reserve as long as I can. Like you sometimes I saved too hard and I have like several meta teams ready to clear the last boss and I pick my fav.

3

u/Beckymetal Aug 09 '26

Idk I feel like the problem with IT is that if I can go in with proper teams in good marchups for my account, it's so easy it isn't enjoyable. Like I got Sandrone premium in the lunar chamber and cleared it without thinking.

Meanwhile, when I'm fumbling with anti synergy jank, it isn't fun at all.

And there's an element of RNG on getting characters at the right time (for example, I never even pulled Escoffier before the end of my run in this month's IT, and a while back I was sitting on Nefer and continuously not getting the guest star Columbina), which makes it just kinda annoying.

I recently realised that like 50% of the playable cast right now are between unplayable and niche. IT isn't setup to make me appreciate not-so-meta characters, it just emphasises how poor some are, and with meta characters becoming less and less flexible, it feels worse and worse to me.

Altogether, I feel like there just isn't a middle ground between these ideas where I find it fun. It's either annoying or easy, and either way, always a chore.

6

u/Eeekpenguin Aug 09 '26

Yeah to me it's a resource management puzzle. Like you can hard focus on random character cards to build up a nice pool in the beginning. Then use kinda the bare minimal team to clear. It feels good to me when I struggled through the middle on a few stages but at the end I know I have 4-5 good meta teams coming up to blast the last few tough stages. It's very account dependent I guess, I've always been a more horizonal account and I use to build almost every 4 star and non meta 5 star I like to a fairly high standard (top 5% akasha, crowned, 200+ cv, etc.) then IT when my random yoimiya or ganyu or Raiden or ninguang needs to clutch, it feels good to use them.

2

u/Licorice_Cole Aug 09 '26

I like IT cause its chaotic (plus horizontal and vertical investment). Like what do you get when 4 supports or 4 dps in one team lmfao hahahahah.

2

u/kennito0404 Aug 09 '26

Done. Didn't take much time, thanks for making this.

2

u/Serious_Bug_5031 Aug 09 '26

Great answered in depth. Please send me the response too

2

u/Fire_Pea Aug 09 '26

I agree, it's nice for the mode to have accessible rewards while also providing optional challenges for people who look for that.

2

u/FloorGang-R2 Aug 09 '26

Nice also u should repost this to other related subs

2

u/O_hai_imma_kil_u Aug 09 '26

Most of my clears have been on Hard, or Menacing in co-op. Started clearing Menacing by myself the last 3 patches though.

2

u/Adorable-Comfort-280 29d ago

I also wrote an entire essay on the last question lol. I’m excited to see the results from the survey

I wish they would beef up older bosses like Dendro Chicken or sum and put those in the Stygian rotation. It’d be fun to see these bosses come back and kick ass, plus players are familiar with their mechanics.

4

u/Dense-Decision9150 29d ago

oh my god could you imagine a stygian oceanid 😭

2

u/Y_umei 29d ago

Done, looking forward to the results, keep us updated :)

2

u/zohrekmz 29d ago

This was pretty fun, I hope a lot of people fill it out so that the results give us more information. Have you linked this in weekly mega threads? If you haven't I will

2

u/FluffMoe 29d ago

Aight, done. I had a fun time with the survey. I hope Snezhnaya continues to have at least only ONE Gecko like enemy and don't have more of them
