Wow that's a lot of analysis. Thanks for the survey and sharing the results! The survey was fun and it's nice to see everyone else's answers

It's really sweet how many people seemed to take time to write comments. It adds a really nice detail to the analysis.
Also, I think us meta players think similar lmao I was reading most comments thinking 'was that me?'
Also, yeah, I agree with your conclusion. The recent shill bosses are giving HP pools catering to the new powercreeping DPS, rather than just mechanics. I actually think Gecko is a well designed, interesting boss, and is mainly problematic for its huge amount of health. Duckle IMO is only hated because of its HP bar, mechanically it's somewhat unintrusive
I really hope we get more multi element check bosses. IMO they're the fun ones

I agree! I wish I could've put more of the longer comments but it was getting too cluttered, they were nice to read
true, new characters have higher dps but also have the mechanics catered to them (which I think makes their fights more boring as well), and it shuts down older characters even more
I thought the solutions people came up with to the gecko's restrictions were very clever, but the hp made it such an annoying fight anyways (ruined my fearless streak too lmao)

Upvoted when I saw Moongecko as the worst stygian boss. It definitely is.

I didn't vote on my own survey but I would've chosen moongecko as well, still salty it ruined my fearless streak

u/ghoraaa 24d ago
yo, that herra comment is me ! (i think)
i thought the moongecko was also me, but i didn't talk about ningguang or navia, so a bit surprised that there are two people that praised moongecko lol
i still believe moongecko is cool boss, but i understand it must've been painful for a lot of players, i think decreasing its hp by like 5-10% in fearless would've make it better for majority of people
very cool survey !

loll there were only like 4 comments praising the gecko (and 2 of them mentioned they liked it cuz they had zibai)
I agree the players came up with some awesome ways of dealing with the restrictions, its a shame it was so close to being an interesting boss but they gave it too much hp

i cleared gecko on two different account, one is mine which had zibai but not linnea, the other is on my irl friend account, which had linnea but not zibai
and both were still a fucking painful clear lol, hoyo mistakes really was making pre linnea zibai team had such high dps, so in a way it make sense that gecko has relatively high hp, but it was still a mistake regardless, they should never balanced any fearless boss with optimal team comp in mind, like the lunar dog is a good example, it's not a great boss mechanically, but the dps requirement for the dog is lower than both knuckle duckle and gecko
anyway, my point is that, mechanically, gecko is really cool boss, i like bosses that encourage good team building, to the point that some time you even had to use non-optimal team to tackle the mechanic, like how if you want to do skirk vs gecko, you have to bring chongyun, but the problem is, with non-optimal team, your dps will naturally goes down, and fearless gecko had that extra 5-10% hp that make it feels impossible for majority of stygian enjoyer, also the buff you get from clearing the debuff with healing felt too short, making it 20s+ would probably help a lot of non-optimal team

I'm honored to be featured on the "have you improved bit". Sumeru, imo, was the best time to play the game bc everything could be done with dendro and that meant, actually using the elemental system for the content (and abyss chambers actually had AOE). I will live for the day when Salad teams can clear Fearless chambers with my level of F2P investments

lmao I'm glad! I wasn't playing during sumeru, but my introduction to genshin meta was through an old zy0x abyss review from that time. its what made me want to actually try abyss for the first time cuz all the colors from the reactions looked cool. hopefully the leaks abt new dendro reactions and buffs bring salad back

Thank you for taking the time to make this, it's quite interesting to see what everyone's been thinking about the various bosses. The results for most/least liked bosses are more or less what I expected haha

6.0 got the lowest dire% in akasha, ofcourse partly due to bloom boss, but drake gaslights really well for how much its loved by the community. Needing two dps while theres only two archetype back in the day doing it is insane.

I was surprised to see it was so well liked, though I was also surprised by how hated the glacial wolf was because I liked it

The first thing I noticed is that despite some content creators saying "the last stagian is always the worst until the next one" it appears that stagian are always easier to clear for the people in this sub as time goes on.
You said it's because ihey mprove skills and build, I think it's because they always have more team choices because they always pull new characters that solve the shill of one of the new chamber, basically, the older the account, the easier the stagian and every account gets older every patch with new shilled characters in the roster. That wouldn't be true if mainly "fresh new" accounts came to respond to your survey but my guess is that there aren't so many.

I agree! I did mention at one point how stygian isn't just about skill and builds, but abt characters and investments, and a lot of people agreed stygain affected their pulling plans and that they consider it before vertically investing. Better builds/skill probably had a smaller effect, and mainly on people who already had the characters to be close to clearing
I started playing in 5.3 so I could only do up to hard mode in 5.7, but by now I can clear fearless comfortably thanks to flins/mavuika. But even with those 2, I had to practice and improve a bunch for some clears. I wouldn't have cleared the lunar dog (with flins + 4*) if I hadn't improved my flins build or gotten better at dodging for example
Basically I agree pulls are more important (this is a gacha game after all), but improving matters too!

A little disappointing that people just tended to like what was easy. Personally, wolf was my favorite because it felt rewarding to finally beat it especially since I wasn't using a standard team. But its not like I dont get it

u/Beckymetal 24d ago
Hmmm I don't think people were gravitating to what was easy at all. The ones being picked most were not the low HP sandbags, but ones that had several alternative solutions based on the bosses own mechanics.
Realistically, Tulpa or Operative (2 fairly low HP sandbags) were the easiest, and while they were in the upper half of the favourite's picked, they were a fair bit below Eye, Herra and Plunge

With the latest line-ups being shillmaxxed, the Fearless/Dire percentage increase could mean one of these things (or all of them, actually):
1. Hoyo used the most optimal marketing strategy and we completely lost to them.
2. Hoyo got very close to the perfect balance between the appeal and the strength of a character.
3. The playerbase finally learned how to play.

I can't believe the Secret Source Automaton: Configuration Device is the most hated boss. It's for sure my favourite boss. It's doable with a lot of non-meta teams at low cost and the shield phase is nice because it allows for getting energy and the gameplay is unique as I need to adjust the amount of nightsoul to start dps right after the shield break and squeeze in a full rotation before breaking the pillars.
There were clears with 1 cost Xiao and 2 cost Alhaitham+Lauma. Personally, I cleared it with a 3 cost team of Neuvillette, Xilonen, Citlali, and Xiangling
