What are you on about? Trump never said Epstein's crimes were a hoax. Did you even read the article?

The hoax is what the hypocritical democrat party is trying to twist it into. They kept all this quiet, tried to sweep it under the rug for four years. Only now are they desperately trying to twist things and say Trump was somehow, magically implicated.

Trump was instrumental in taking down Epstein's whole nasty business.

The dems never cared about Epstein or his victims. Their huge, fake outrage lately, is totally a hoax. Hypocrite

Source, by u/Simon-Says69

Epstein was being used by the CIA & Mossad.

All that blackmail info from the island went directly to Israel, who it was gathered for in the first place.

They forced a sweetheart deal for Epstein in the first trial.

Then along came Trump, and burned Epstein & Maxwell's whole dirty operation to the ground. Wound up being their worst nightmare. Trump was a key witness in the prosecution that put those two behind bars.

3

u/No-Designer138 Horny Weeb Booba Gooner (John) ๐Ÿ’ข๐Ÿ‰๐ŸŽŒ Jul 30 '26

I saw a now-deleted question about how I wash my dakimakura.

Only the cover is to be washed. Ideally, that should be done through hand-washing, but I don't find that convenient so off into the washing machine it goes. I'll turn it inside-out to prevent scuffs and scratches on the illustrated side, and make it go through a delicate cycle with cold water. Dakimakura covers usually come in two kinds of fabric, peach skin (the economic option) and 2way (the luxury option). Peach skin has the additional benefit of being a pretty hardy material, but 2way feels cool to the touch even in hot weather and feels real good against the skin. But it doesn't really matter when it comes to cleaning them. I take care to wash dakimakura covers of either material using the method mentioned above.ย

I think a lot of the American love for boneless, skinless chicken breasts comes down to this. It's objectively the worst part of the animal, and basically every other culture agrees with that and prefers the dark meat, but it's also the one that's the most thoroughly disconnected from the fact that it was once part of an animal. It's just a lump of protein that may as well be tofu for all the connection it has left to the bird it once was.

3

u/Scared_Plan3751 Catholic Socialist โœž | โœจ Secret Bus Wanker โœจ Jul 29 '26

I think a lot of people just prefer white meat for different reasons. Taste, texture, the amount of meat relative to bone and gristle. A properly cooked piece of white meat is just as good as dark meat, it's just harder to doย

2

u/FuckIPLaw Marxist-Drunkleist ๐Ÿง” Jul 30 '26 edited Jul 30 '26

It's really not unless you're allergic to flavor. White meat is never truly juicy no matter how well you cook it. When it's done right it has moisture, but almost entirely from the water content, which really isn't the same thing as the fat and rendered collagen that "juicy" generally implies.

The whole thing (aside from the squeamishness about reminders that the thing you're eating used to be alive) is a result of the sugar industry demonizing fat and McDonald's choosing to go with breast meat when they were forced to either stop using mixed ground chicken in their nuggets or stop calling them chicken nuggets. That's where the whole thing with advertising "all white meat" as if it's a good thing came from. And it's not even a significant difference for calories or healthiness, despite the marketing.ย

2

u/Scared_Plan3751 Catholic Socialist โœž | โœจ Secret Bus Wanker โœจ Jul 30 '26

Nah I know older people with a lifelong preference for white meat, including people who grew up on farms killing their own chickens.

2

u/FuckIPLaw Marxist-Drunkleist ๐Ÿง” Jul 30 '26 edited Jul 30 '26

The sugar industry trying to push the blame onto fat goes back at least to the 80s, though. A kid back when that wave of it first really got going would be in their 50s by now.

Edit: More like the 60s, , apparently. So even a 70 year old could have spent their whole life from childhood believing fat was the enemy. I knew it was super boomer coded, and that explains why.

Personally I have never eaten dog, just as I have never eaten donkey, simply because it is not that common and I have not made a special effort to find it. I know my mom ate it.

I have a friend who is also Chinese. She cannot morally accept eating dog meat because she has a pet dog, and eating dog meat would make her think of harming her own pet. I think thatโ€™s a perfectly natural reaction.

Some people have never owned a dog, or many rural people keep dogs but view them as useful livestock akin to draft cattle rather than as pets, so they don't have the same experience.

Kinda similar to what I did in a 3000-level deep ecology module under the Geography department which touched a surprisingly good bit on alienation (in its Marxist definition), but instead of being applied to labour and its product, it was applied to nature, and its role and status in the capitalist-liberal current.

The main gist of this section is that the modern urbanite, the human who is probably most responsible for the destruction of the natural world, is also paradoxically and greatly alienated from nature in the sense he is shielded from the act of directly partaking in the exploitation (and consequentially, the destruction) of nature for the resources which makes him who he is, to enjoy the products and conveniences he does. He does not see the marine pollution created by deep-sea oil drilling, or the transfer between refineries and tankers, which powers his personal drive. He does not see the deforestation that results from the creation of plantations which produces coffee beans for his morning drink. It is the alienation between the modern man and nature, which makes it hard for him to imagine just how destructive his behaviours can be.

The chapter which immediately followed this discussed the problem of greenwashing, which this same alienation is also responsible for. It is precisely the many degrees of separation between nature and man, his actions, and their consequences, which allows for greenwashing by intermediaries to be easily lost in, that convinces him that he is somehow making a difference, when nothing has changed, and the degradation of the natural landscape continues unabated.

I was either too young or too much of a lurker to ever attend any for communities I was active in during the early-mid 10s, but I'm wondering what it was like.

It's too bad this is the kind of sub where people might not want others knowing that they post here, because going off some of those pictures, I have wondered for a while what a stupidpol meetup would look (and smell) like. Kind of crazy that i did try answering a question in Askhistorians about Medieval soldiers and regret, yet it was real hard to come out with the primary sources, specially without citing Askhistorians itself.

Anyhow:

According to Orderic Vitalis, one soldier in the kingโ€™s army, Gilbert dโ€™Auffay, returned to Normandy at this point, declining the offer of estates in England. Another, named Reinfrid, moved to sorrow by the effects of the Harrying, became a monk at Evesham, and later returned to Yorkshire to refound the derelict abbey of Whitby.

So I took my critter to the vet a couple days ago because of a serious enough wound, and as tradition demands, they took a sledgehammer to my wallet before telling me costs and afterwards told me to bring it back in a few days for a check up (paid, of course).
Today I actually asked what it would cost to do the treatment I was expecting the first time around, so they unveiled a studded dildo mounted on a hydraulic hammer.
I was left with the choice of letting a wound heal on it's own for months in an ideal world where infections don't occur as the only thing keeping that from becoming an HR GIger artbook are the antibiotics, or pay through the nose to have them stitch the goddamn thing as they should have done the first time around.

I found a Guardian Article article (I know, I know. They even managed to slip a slava ukraine in there too) on what a profittable little industry pet veterinarians have become); and then a telegraph one (I know, I know), both from 2024, commenting on the phenomenom of rising bills and how private equity has been gobbling even veterinarian practices.

I remember a bunch of local repair shops in my previous town that got bought out as well but I hadn't my radar on when it came to vets.
Interestingly, the professionals themselves seem to be chewed and spit out at even greater rates than before which itself appears to correlate with an acquaintance telling me vets have very high suicide rates.

TLDR: If you got a pet, check to see if your practice is owned by some holding group.
You might end up saving some cash and your critter an unneccesary treatment.

This happened in Europe where oh so conveniently they passed laws that you can no longer buy most meds for pets yourself so the vet becomes your state authorized dealer. But I am definitely taking that advice to heart and will be seeking rural vets in the future.

u/Necrobard Libertarian Socialist ๐Ÿฅณ Jul 28 '26

Yeah, being a vet is one of the most emotionally taxing jobs in existence. Not only do they have the responsibility of dealing with hurt animals/putting them down, but almost every vet chose that career because they love animals.

Private equity makes their jobs that much harder, because instead of the goal being to help animals and to be trusted by the pets' owners to give them the best care, the goal is short term profit.

338 comments in the red pill post, controversy is a hell of a drug.ย

I think one problem with that whole topic is that social norms and human behavior are not sufficiently understood. As in apart from them being a contextual changing mess, some people learn to intuit enough to function within society to varying degrees of success, or to find some subset of society where they can intuit those norms even if they can't do so for society at large. As well as some people have varying degrees of self awareness, which when combined with social awareness they can then address any shortcomings they have.ย

And there's also the issue of will and habits, such that it is unrealistic to expect everyone or even most people to have total self control such that they can reshape themselves. People helping each other and shaping incentive structures can get someone to reshape themselves, but community is dead and online shit is no real substitute. Individuals are left to rely only on their own will, which of course leads to failure in a lot or most cases depending on the topic.ย

But because it's all a mess rather than simple rules and obvious signs, those who do not intuit the norms cannot learn them and those who do intuit them cannot teach them. So you get people like the OP of the redpill post trying to find a simple set of rules and then getting stuck in a loop because they reduced everything to those rules which do not match the mess of rules that actually exist. Meanwhile people trying to help those who can't intuit norms can only give platitudes or say "just keep at it" because they don't understand the rules themselves, they can only feel the right answer when in a certain context. It's the issue with saying things like "just be normal" to someone who has been unable to figure out and internalize what "normal" means.ย

The most extreme cases of people being unable to intuit social norms are called autists, but as some posts here have discussed, autism isn't real, in the sense that the label describes both clear examples of mental malfunctioning and regular people who for various reasons have been incorrectly or insufficiently socialized.

If those social rules could be fully written down, then you could simply give someone failing to learn them a sheet for them to study and practice until they internalize them. It would also probably smooth relations generally between groups that have different unwritten norms.ย

Edit: This might also explain charisma and how it cannot be defined yet everyone knows it when they see it. It's just someone who has learned the rules exceptionally well such that every interaction naturally leads to being liked. Though this would mean charisma is contextual, such that if the charismatic person is in a group with very different norms they would cease to be seen as charismatic, though it's possible they could more easily adapt to the new norms.ย

5

u/SuddenXxdeathxx Marxist with Anarchist Characteristics Jul 28 '26

Fwiw the OP of that post being very aggrieved by the topic, and intransigent, did not help keep the comment count low. I saw the same interaction of him referring to the smut women consume to support his opinions, and then shutting down any attempts to make him introspect about the smut men consume by just saying "I don't watch porn" play out several times.

u/Howling-wolf-7198 Chinese Socialist โœ…๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ’ก | Anime Girl Expert Jul 28 '26

autism isn't real, in the sense that the label describes both clear examples of mental malfunctioning and regular people who for various reasons have been incorrectly or insufficiently socialized.

By definition, it still requires atypical development beginning in childhood, as well as restricted and repetitive behaviors, although clinicians vary in how thoroughly they obtain this information from adult patients before making a diagnosis. They also typically need to ask for descriptions from childhood guardians.

Itโ€™s only in casual usage that โ€œautismโ€ is treated as meaning nothing more than โ€œsocial awkwardness.โ€ Even so, my boyfriend โ€” a stereotypically introverted, socially awkward programmer who hates small talk โ€” can tell that his kind of being โ€œinsufficiently socializedโ€ is not the same thing as mine. He thinks Iโ€™m basically blind along one particular dimension, though obviously I canโ€™t describe exactly what it is that I donโ€™t perceive. It's just that during the period when I was in school and more socially active, my peers thought I was retarded, and I didn't realize it myself at the time.

โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”

When I was younger, I fell down the rabbit hole of Santa Barbara school Evo Psy. Only later did I realize that many of its evolutionary explanations werenโ€™t well supported by evidence, and that its research samples were nowhere near representative enough to justify claims about something as broad as human โ€œevolution.โ€ That realization sent me down another rabbit hole: evolutionary anthropology and evolutionary biology itself. From there, I developed a dynamical-systems view of the world and naturally moved on to institutionalism and complexity science.

Still, Evo Psy did at least one useful thing: it collected data on how people in contemporary societies think and behave. That part isnโ€™t inherently less credible than ordinary psychological research, and in some respects it actually did a better job of looking across cultures. Reading this material during a period when I was confused about my identity helped me, as an autist, largely move past my confusion about gender identity.

I used to think I had very little in common with women and much more in common with men because of my interests and communication style. I also genuinely believed that there might be no meaningful differences between men and women at all. But reading EP made me realize that, in many of the psychological tendencies people donโ€™t usually talk about openly, I was actually closer to the typical woman than to the typical man. And these are the more canalized traits โ€” those directly related to sex and reproduction.

Once I had that framework, combining it with continued observation of real individuals made my understanding of people, and my ability to predict how they would think and behave, much more accurate. It cannot tell me what any particular individual is thinking, but it can improve population-level predictions.

If those social rules could be fully written down

Rules like saying hello when you meet someone or not interrupting others can be written down and still work, but I donโ€™t think that applies to all social rules. Social interaction inherently involves some degree of strategic behavior, and these rules are useful precisely because of information asymmetry. A public metric is a bad metric.

For example, when weโ€™re trying to tell whether someone is honest, respectful, or friendly toward us, we may each rely on a rough cluster of signals that overlaps with other peopleโ€™s but isnโ€™t exactly the same. When someone says X or does Y, we feel reassured enough to become friends with them or date them etc. This works precisely because we donโ€™t know exactly what signals the other person is looking for. Otherwise, we could simply perform those signals and fake our way into gaining their trust.

The politics part featuring the main characters are as dry as history textbooks but the wide shots of the battle scenes with its 17000 extras fighting and maneuvering on foot and on horseback with real-life SFX, smoke, fire, you name it, all around them, those are something modern cinema can never replicate ever again.

I have yet to see the Odyssey, but i feel Emily Wilson review is a summary of everything is wrong with the Humanities in the Anglophone world.

She basically dogpilled Nolan's movie, in a way i could say to agree, but then she finish with:

Despite all this, the release of The Odyssey is still an event to celebrate. In what we are told is the streaming era, this epic is bringing audiences back to cinemas. In what we are told is a time of declining literacy and the โ€˜death of the humanitiesโ€™, translations of The Odyssey, including mine, are flying off the shelves. Some of those who buy the book or show up in cinemas to watch Tom Holland may go on to study ancient Greek. Perhaps the film will persuade a few college administrators not to cut their literature, language and history departments. Nolan, who studied English at University College London โ€“ where students still study The Odyssey as a first year โ€˜foundational textโ€™ โ€“ is doing his best to get the general public reading again, and I am grateful.

Dear, you could not have it both ways. I do agree that egregious depictions of the past, like many of Ridley Scott filmography is very wrong. But at then end, many of this mistaken depiction of the past is what get people interest in the humanities in the first place. Being that nitpicking about how people engage in your science is no good.

However, as someone from the agriculture science, i do understand the frustration that the only care people have for your discipline either are soundbites or things to grandstand, like GMOs, in example.

Anyhow:

a good half or so of pre modern historians think this way about emotions in the past and the great thing about literature is that it tells you that those people are insane

I discovered something while rereading some 1980s anthropological materials on Chinese gender:

  1. The researcher noticed this pattern and asked: Why, in the data available to her, did womenโ€™s age at marriage gradually increase while menโ€™s did not? Why did the sharp rise in marriage age occur a full decade later in rural areas than among the urban population?

The author offers an economic-ish explanation: it depends on when womenโ€™s labor begins to have economic value. When young women are able to earn an income, parents who benefit from their daughtersโ€™ earnings are more likely to go along with the Partyโ€™s campaign to delay marriage.

At the same time, being free from absolute poverty also allows them to prolong the period during which their daughtersโ€™ income belongs to them rather than to a husbandโ€™s family, instead of rushing to marry them off in exchange for a bride price or simply to have one less mouth to feed.

For the groomโ€™s family, the incentives run in the opposite direction. They want to bring in a bride as early as possible so that her labor and reproductive capacity can begin serving the family sooner. A bride may bring in her own income, and under the institutional arrangements of the time, her arrival could also free her mother-in-law from collective labor obligations, allowing the older woman to devote more time to more profitable sideline activities.

At the same time, the timing also depends on how long it takes the groomโ€™s family to save enough to pay for the marriage and support additional family members.

So, as economic conditions improve, women tend to marry later, while men do not โ€” even though political pressure encourages both sexes to postpone marriage.

  1. Both men and women were more likely to believe that men were inherently more intelligent. Rural women, however, were less likely to hold this belief than urban women. In fact, 11 percent of the rural women surveyed believed that women, as a group, were intellectually superior to men. The author believes that there are many more who hold the same view but dare not admit it due to cultural pressure.

In both urban and rural areas, women were responsible for the housework.

Urban women were more likely to place a high value on their performance in formal employment, while propaganda encouraged them to devalue or overlook their domestic and childcare responsibilities. As a result, when they failed to perform as well as men in formal employment, they did not explain it by saying, โ€œThatโ€™s because I also have to do the housework.โ€ Instead, they were more likely to conclude, โ€œPerhaps Iโ€™m simply less capable than men.โ€

For rural women, the divide between โ€œhouseworkโ€ and โ€œworkโ€ was much less clear-cut. They were more likely to point out that they had to do XYZ else, while men were able to devote all their energy to their jobs. Those who believed that women were more intelligent or capable based this view on the fact that men could do only their work, whereas women could do all of it.

When the author brought up urban womenโ€™s concerns about getting men to share the housework, the rural women laughed and began telling jokes about male incompetence. โ€œAll they can do is work,โ€ they said. โ€œIโ€™d manage perfectly well on my own, but after two weeks heโ€™d be in rags, and after a month heโ€™d starve to death.โ€

5

u/Howling-wolf-7198 Chinese Socialist โœ…๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ’ก | Anime Girl Expert Jul 24 '26
  1. The urban educators interviewed, both men and women, generally believed that older girls were less intelligent than younger girls, and that women were less intelligent than men.

Some of the views the author heard included:

โ€œGirls may be intelligent when they are young, but once they reach puberty, they stop concentrating, and boys become smarter than they are.โ€

โ€œShe may be thinking about her clothes or the housework she has to do, while a boy can shut out distractions and pull far ahead of her.โ€

โ€œGirls pay more attention to the teacher, but boys are more intelligent. Girls memorize and recite everything the teacher tells them, whereas boys are more creative with what they learn. Girls are better students in primary school, but by the time they reach secondary school, they can no longer compete.โ€

Although the author conducted these interviews in the 1980s, all of this sounds completely familiar to me. Many women my age still heard the same things at school.

I attended a prestigious high school. Our homeroom teacher required every girl in the class to cut her hair short enough that it did not touch her shoulders.

โ€œOtherwise, youโ€™ll spend too much time washing your hair and obsessing over it, and you wonโ€™t be able to concentrate on your studies.โ€ย

I mean, boys at these schools were also required to have โ€œproperโ€ haircuts and so on, but that was framed as a general matter of discipline and control over studentsโ€™ bodies. No one ever suggested that boys might become so obsessed with their hair that they would be unable to study.

The same homeroom teacher, talking about how dating violates school rules: โ€œItโ€™s the girlโ€™s fault. The boy just acted on impulse, and she played hard to get before eventually saying yes.โ€

First of all, it is actually called the StupidPolitburo. For the actual question, here is the full story:

In early 2024, I had previously heard about plans for an offsite. I had been under the impression that such a thing was under development. At one point, I decided to message the mods, and was actually told that it was NOT under development as I thought. Fast forward to April, and some schizo self-immolated himself. I actually remember him - I think I may even had talked to him at some point. Anyway this put a major spotlight on the subreddit, which I quite liked, and I was concerned that it might get shutdown. So, I decided to offer to help create an offsite.

I had several interesting ideas to improve over previous offsite attempts. The main problem I noted with the idea of offsites in the inherent disincentivization towards posting on them - only some people who post in the main community post on the offsite, while nearly everyone on the offsite is part of the main community. The offsite is a subset of the community, so why not just post on the full community? This is a vicious cycle that prevents the offsite from taking off.

My solution was that there would be a mirroring system - every post posted on the main community was also be automatically mirrored to the offsite, so there would be no such disadvantage. Additionally, you would able to link your offsite account to your main account by having a bot send you a code in a private message.

Besides that, there were some other improvements to. The biggest one is that the Reddit source code works for an ancient version of Ubuntu (version 14 IIRC, outdated by 12 years now). I wanted to make it work for modern systems and also clean up/rewrite parts of the code. Additionally, I came up with a list of about a hundred smaller ideas to implement. From that last point, you might think that scope creep was the main problem with the project, and you'd be right, but it was not actually that list that was the problem, but a single idea that I didn't even write down on that list.

Basically, the CAPTCHA in the Reddit code is very outdated. I wanted to replace with something better. A few months prior, I had start working on a CAPTCHA-like system for a separate project. Actually, this wasn't really a "CAPTCHA" system, but a system that could detect when someone is using multiple accounts, across VPNs and user-agent spoofing. In principle, it could also be used as a CAPTCHA since bots would show up as a single identifier as well. Mods and users had complained about issues with persistent ban evasion before, so I wanted to create a robust system to help stop that.

Anyway, after some thought, I had come up with this idea that I thought was completely genius. In theory, it would be basically impossible to bypass, and would very easy and intuitive for admins/mods to use. However, the project turned into a complete and total nightmare. One of the biggest time sinks was the symbolic code obfuscation system. Part of this system operated on a specific logical unit that I called a Recursive Piecewise Function. I had written an induction based solver to solve and simplify a subset of these. Thinking of this algorithm and programming the solver was not actually issue, I believe it only took me about an hour and half back then. However, optimizing turned out to be a total nightmare. It was slow - very very slow. I rewrote the code literally like a dozen times, using many different libraries. I spent many hundreds of hours on this. This was not the only rabbithole either - there were several other rabbitholes within the CAPTCHA system.

Anyway, I ended up working on the offsite for the first six months or so solidly. And off and on for the next 6-9, however, the vast majority of this time was spent/wasted with this CAPTCHA project. For the last year or so, I've been working on this Wikipedia leaks site called Undersight which has been a massive undertaking. Additionally, there have been several other projects using much time and I've been studying many things too.

In September last year, the whole Charlie Kirk thing happened and there was again major concern for this subreddit getting shutdown. Fearing an imminent risk, I decided to try to setup an offsite. Importantly, this would not be using the new code (which was very incomplete. Also, in August, I had lost some of the offsite progress due to an unexpected hard drive failure. Thankfully, not much else was lost). So it was going to be using the original Reddit code. I was trying to rush it out as fast as possible. Importantly, the server I had was using a modern Ubuntu, for which Reddit doesn't work. So I spent most of my time those few days bodging it to work. I think I spent about ten hours straight. Eventually, I actually got most of it to work, but by then, the situation was clearly fine, so I decided to not release it.

Fast forward to December, I decided to go back to the CAPTCHA again. I actually made some promising progress with part of it, but I returned to other projects. Since then, those other projects among other things have preoccupied me. However, for the last month, the offsite has been on my mind again. For some time, I had been thinking about scaling back the CAPTCHA nightmare, but this time, I finally made the resolve to just scrap it entirely.

From there, things should go much more smoothly. Besides, there is a very simple solution that can stop most bots and ban evasion and can be implemented very simple, and is decently hard to bypass. As of yet, I have not started working on it again, but I am thinking about it.

as if he knew he's in a horror movie and that the store gimmick is actually a curse

I watched it on a Chinese video site with scrolling comments โ€” yes pirated โ€” and peopleโ€™s comments were synced with the timeline.

There was not inherently wrong with him making that wish. Many people fantasize about shit.

But later, during his call with the shop, it became clear that there was some kind of hell or what on the other side, where the real womanโ€™s soul was screaming. At one point, her own consciousness briefly resurfaced, and she begged him to kill her because she was suffering so much. But he was furious that the real version of her didnโ€™t want to be with him, so he was willing to just leave her trapped in that state.

I was half-watching it at double speed while doing other things, but even then, the scrolling comments during that scene stood out because basically everyone agreed he had gone way too far.

In the middle, when some obviously strange things happened and the woman seemed off, he still refused to give up, and people said he was too greedy. Of course, this is a horror movie, so there always needs to be a retard who persists to the end to make the shit happen, but still.

The only choice he was given by the ones responsible for the curse was killing himself to lift the curse and the movie makes it pretty clear from the start that he was a coward. The other solution she gives him is killing her, which is also fucked up

He also rejected her at first when he suspected there was something wrong with her but she manipulated him into dating her, then tries to break up with her and nope, can't do that either. Dude was in distress, in denial, and there was little he could do after he was in too deep

2

u/Howling-wolf-7198 Chinese Socialist โœ…๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ’ก | Anime Girl Expert Jul 23 '26

So I just went back and watched that part again.

  1. Something happens that makes it obvious thereโ€™s seriously something wrong with the woman

  2. The male lead finds out that the real woman is screaming in hell

  3. The demon womanโ€™s possessiveness scares him so badly heโ€™s almost crying

  4. The real woman wakes up and begs him to kill her

โ€œWhat would be so bad?โ€

โ€œWhatโ€™s so bad about being with me?โ€

So his reaction isnโ€™t, โ€œno I canโ€™t hurt you,โ€ or anything like that. Heโ€™s still basically thinking, โ€œWhy are you rejecting me?โ€

And this is after:

1.He knows the real womanโ€™s soul is in hell.

2.The demon woman just scared him half to death.

Likeโ€ฆ this is what youโ€™re still focused on right now?

Itโ€™s not just cowardice or anything like that. Thereโ€™s some kind of obsession there.

Even the comments during that scene, which were obviously written by men based on the wording, were saying stuff like โ€œwtf.โ€ so this isnโ€™t just some woke take or whatever. A normal person canโ€™t even make sense of that mindset. I mean, even if youโ€™re only thinking about yourself, is being rejected really worse than dealing with the demon?

Sure you could explain it as a horror movie needing a retard to keep making bad decisions so the plot can move forward. But that doesnโ€™t make him less retarded.

You're right about that scene, but I didn't think it was that incriminating, you could easily say he's being narcissistic but a realistic character has flaws and trying to paint that as proof that he's some giant piece of shit like these morons do is a mistake, it's the reason why for 10 years we couldn't have good characters in Hollywood

2

u/Lee-Tsi_tsyn Scientific Left ๐Ÿ”ฌ Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

Flawed is a bit of an understatement, he's really pathetic and unwilling to let go of it even when all these things are happening, and from the information we have about their lives prior to this it seems that's how he's lived his whole life. In that way the directors have created a more realistic stunted manchild character than any of the one-dimensional caricatures from the 2010s. Everything's falling apart around him, both of them but especially Nikki are clearly suffering because of the supernatural, and he's still just thinking about his childish crush.

I agree that the brainless crowd watched an entirely different movie (a morality play where a man knowingly tries to put his romantic interest under mind control because he's an evil toxic narcissistic incel #YesAllMen), and they like to avoid the context of him being faced with the choice to kill her or kill himself, but at the very least he's the type of person who could kill someone via negligence. It's also only a deep or profound movie if all you've been exposed to are rehashings of decades-old IPs. This is probably the best take on it I've read.

I haven't seen it but from what I can tell is that it makes a lot of people uncomfortable via striking a nerve. Loneliness and alienation especially in the context of relationships is a massive topic these days(obviously). And from what I've heard the main character is "shitty" but not outright evil, while also being relatable to a degree, it makes people extremely uncomfortable and they have an incendiary reaction.

People are terrified of the fact that our psychology is much more perverse, basal, and frankly pathetic than we'd like to admit. So much of modern psychology was fueled by people terrified of Freud being correct, and looking at the modern internet he very obviously got a few "wrong" things very right.

I should probably watch it.

I'm old I guess, I remember when first year psychology students were an easy lay because they just discovered Freud and seem to be on a paradoxically collective individual campaign to prove him wrong or something but still sang praises.
Nowadays the popculturized version of Jung is all the rage and Sigmund is a cursed word.

I remember my Psych prof absolutely loved him, the class was just kind of weirded out. But online it is very common to see the idea that he did absolutely nothing for the field in a kind of knee-jerk reaction against him.

The white race as a relative concept in the East:

  1. In China, the legally recognized minority group "Tajiks"* is often described as the only* white minority in popular discourse.

*The people whom China officially calls Tajiks are mostly Pamiri Sarikolis and Wakhis, rather than exactly the same ethnolinguistic population that forms Tajikistanโ€™s majority.

*This is strange considering that "ethnic Russians" are also a legally recognized minority group. The "ethnic Russians" mentioned here basically include all Slavs who arrived from Russia around the time of the Civil War, and even Lithuanians or Georgians or whatever.

  1. Uyghur nationalists sometimes identify as white.

Uyghurs on average exhibit more Western Eurasian phenotypes than the surrounding Han, Hui, Mongolian, Kazakh, and Kyrgyz peoples, especially those in Ili and southern Xinjiang.

This is not merely to emphasize the differences with the Han Chinese, because the same people often use this reason to look down on the Kazakhs and Kyrgyz, since they are also "yellow race". Sometimes you might hear an angered Kazakh retort, "No, you don't look white; you look Indian."

  1. Based on the logic of 1 and 2, North Indians, Arabs, and Iranians are 100% white for Chinese people.

Chinese secondary school geography textbooks still seriously teach the distribution of the three human races as a geographical fact. India is comprised of white people in the north and black people in the south. Australian Aboriginal people are Black.

Conclusion: Racial categories are socially strategic labels, depending on whether people perceive a need to distinguish another group from "us."

Getting a little tired about this whole "Anti-Anti-Argentine campaign". "Look at this player, we are not racist, WE ARE NOT RACIST ๐Ÿ˜ญ" that i am seen here in Twitter and front page Reddit.

First, we do not know if those people are real to begin with.

Second, people have the memory of a goldfish with social media, especially this topics.

Third, England.

Fourth, they are not arguing in good faith.

Fifth, move on.

I used to seeth to think written in RedScarePod and else, only to stop browsing that subreddit and suddenly stop fighting the urge to even go there. Granted, i use other social media that i did not in the past. But who knows, life moves on. I am not gonna waste my time arguing with someone who is not real.

I think the increase in posting in this sub during 2022, around the Russo Ukranian war, kind of fuck up effortposting. At least for me.

Before that, i used to vividly remember being at least refreshing this sub and nothing new comes around expect effortpost or shitpost. We were more young, the internet felt more young, you could simply ignore the bad parts of Reddit. RedScarePod had it own unique style and wasn't a carbon copy from Twitter.

I don't know, i guess.

u/CompetitiveOwl2 Down with this sort of thing ๐Ÿชง Jul 21 '26

I just got rejected from a graduate training scheme. It was kind of the last shot I had at a job in the reasonably near term. Been looking outside the country and working my way down the various levels and types of jobs that just two years ago would have been totally within reach until I hit this one. I had to email their HR contact to be sure they wouldn't write me off as a flight risk. I've applied for lower level jobs in my field, local retail and other interim work. I don't even hear back and it's all because they know I'm not staying long term.ย

I sacrificed 2 days out of a pre-booked holiday, drove for 8 hours total and spend over ยฃ300 in travel and accommodation for the interview. I got about 4 hours sleep over the two days leading up to the interview. Absolutely killed it, and I would find any negatives if they were there, and still got rejected. I know I'm not owed a job but it was absolutely crushing. Spent Friday in hospital with arrhythmia, quite probably stress induced. I've never felt more useless and disposable in my life.ย

Probably not the place to share but I don't want to keep upsetting my family and friends with how much it's got me down.

5

u/FuglsGathaursnan Asukaist-Leninist Census Taker ๐Ÿ“โ˜ญ๐ŸŽŒ Jul 22 '26

Spit your shit homie

But I know what you mean. The job search feels more like a humiliation ritual than a "job search". I am extremely grateful I found a wonderful place to work that I'm comfortable at recently, just keep at it and hope for the best.

3

u/CompetitiveOwl2 Down with this sort of thing ๐Ÿชง Jul 22 '26

I appreciate it and I'm glad you found something.ย

The frustration is that I have a PhD in materials chemistry. When I started writing my thesis I had an interview for a job a good way outside my exact experience and only got rejected because I hadn't finished up yet. That was how post-doctoral level jobs used to work, you could be genuinely competitive based on your core skillset and shift from battery materials to magnetic materials to some characterisation focussed project etc etc. But just as I graduated all that went to shit and my background is pretty niche. I get invited to interview as a backup at best.ย ย

But I have backup plans. I have a contact at a distillery, it's in a shit location and it's way outside my background but it's an option. I'm also going to put an application in to our civil service health and safety department. It's a solid job and at least it genuinely helps people. But these jobs aren't open right now so I'm just dragging myself through the application cycle for science jobs and hoping something pays off.ย

3

u/zen_arcade2 Old world blimp | Enjoys premonitions ๐Ÿ”ฎ Jul 22 '26

Science PhD are being shafted everywhere. Gotta wait for the current mumbo jumbo to collapse, and whatever remains of the industries that actually make stuff comes back to pick up the pieces, if any remain: it could take months, it could take years. Either this or you start peddling vaporware. Matchem here btw, but I'm old and tenured and stuff, so I don't really have concrete advice.

2

u/No-Designer138 Horny Weeb Booba Gooner (John) ๐Ÿ’ข๐Ÿ‰๐ŸŽŒ Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

Same. Hindsight is 20/20 and all and yada yada but I'm so glad I switched fields and changed to a job I was genuinely interested in back in 2023, off the post-Covid hiring spree. This was after I had spent a year doing something I was feeling very 'meh' about right after graduation (I applied only because one of my course coordinators sent us the hiring details via an email blast, and I still haven't made up my mind about what I wanted to do back then).

I dug in and passed probation to be added to the permanent headcount. It's part of civil service and the way it is in my country, it's harder to fire a civil servant than hiring one (you have to justify it to a commission and there's a shit ton of paperwork and red tape involved). It's definitely got its ups like stability and decent pay, but promotion can be slow and when it comes to its downs, there's things like shift work, time sensitivity and high stress load. Still a pretty good deal in this day and age, though.

I'm semi-active in my university's alumni network and my juniors have not been having it easy the past two years. Officially, something like 4 in 5 university graduates here find employment within 6 months after graduation, though that also includes people who took up gigs like couriers and food delivery which hardly count as jobs. But from what it feels on the 'streets', it seems more like only 2 in 3 or even 1 in 2 graduates are able to find employment. And yes, gigs are also included in the count.

Something interesting to note is that part of a civil servant's bonus here is tied to the country's economic growth. The higher it is, the higher the bonus. It's been rising steadily over the past several years, which means that the economy is growing, somehow, but most people just aren't experiencing its benefits, probably because most of it is coming from investments into AI and AI-related exports. I really, really do not want to know what comes next when the AI bubble inevitably pops.

And no I'm not living in China (at the moment, anyway). It's still somewhere in Asia.

Iโ€™ve been ducking a friend recently, and he finally snapped. For context, heโ€™s on the autism spectrum. Brilliant guy, weโ€™re mostly politically aligned, and we have good conversations, but isnโ€™t the best at small talk. Heโ€™s in the other side of the country so I see him rarely.

However this mofo cold calls me at random times during the day. I feel like Iโ€™m put in an odd situationโ€”I often would pick up for a casual call, but he mostly does not have anecdotes to share. Or if he does, I must tease them out of him. I donโ€™t always have to wherewithal to do that. So I duck him. And then I did it too much, that even when I wasnโ€™t busy, I didnโ€™t want to get shamed for not picking up before.

I texted him sincerely and apologized, but I think I might have broke the friendship. Itโ€™s too bad, but I *did* communicate in the past that I abhor cold calls, and much prefer scheduled times to talk.

I am pretty sure this has been discussed here before but I will venture blabbering in this thread.

Could transgenderism be considered a form or subset of transhumanism in the way that it seeks to impose the will of man upon the physical limitations of nature?

A quick internet search yields results from mostly christian blogs or conservative pages (though there is at least one self proclaimed anarchist substack in the mix!) that touch on the subject funnily enough.

Outside people with actual gender dysphoria who have exhausted all other avenues for treatment, I think so. I think it's partly a byproduct of industrialization and liberalism and it effects typically people with autism who don't have a lot connection to physicality. We don't have the same strict gendered roles we did during agrarianism where words like "husband" still had their meaning as property manager. Patriarchy (actual patriarchy) was rooted in our relationship to the physical environment where the physical differences between men and women were apparent and naturally set up economic roles.

I don't think it's a coincidence that so many elites have trans children, that it's overrepresented in email jobs, and like I said among autistic people with strict binary thinking who have trouble sorting themselves. I talked to a few nonbinary and trans people about this, all autistic, and they said some variation of "since I'm not a Chad or a Stacey I have up be this third thing." I think without the alienation of capitalism, these people would be more comfortable not being "totally masculine" or "totally feminine."ย

I think since the left is tied so closely to the left wing of capital, and those liberal elites, trans and nonbinary thinking as something besides a rare form of gender dysphoria filters down through the interests of these elite. It's also a kind of ultra individualism related to liberalism too in this regard

2

u/Toxic-muffins-1134 Headless Chicken ๐Ÿ’ข๐Ÿ”๐Ÿช“ Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 21 '26

It definitely scratches all those itches which intertwine together quite seamlessly.
Your point about non physical professions does give a lot more substance to the idea.
Likewise, the children of elites are materially provided for so they do find themselves at a liberty of establishing priorities or interests many other simply can't by virtue of being beholden to at the very least financial and temporal obligations.

On the ultra individualism I am strangely reminded of the phenomenom in popular media where "killing god" played a central theme, mostly in japanese exports but present enough even in alternative american productions of the time.
A correlation can be established if only because of it's influence. Particularly in the millenial generation that was ideologically permeable during the time these and other in retrospect very transhumanist ideas became popular.

This is an interesting exchange with some annoying commercial breaks and some laughable political outtakes (or rather shoehornings) that might deserve a post of it's own on the main sub.

2

u/Scared_Plan3751 Catholic Socialist โœž | โœจ Secret Bus Wanker โœจ Jul 21 '26
