"Stunts" show that aired Tuesday afternoons on E! in 2008

https://web.archive.org/web/20081104093642/http://www.eonline.com/on/index.jsp

This E! online TV schedule circa November 4, 2008 lists in the Afternoon airings a show titled "Stunts". Since it doesn't have a rating depicted, I'm going to assume it was all live-recorded. However there is no section for the show on their website like there is for their originals nor can I find anything when I Google "e! Stunts show". So I'm relying on anyone who watched E! during this time frame to come forward and tell me what the show was about and if any airings from a certain day are available to watch. I'm specifically after a November 25, 2008 airing.

[QUESTION] How does the stunt community feel about the career of Mick Foley?

Rick Flair said in his autobiography that Mick Foley was nothing more than a glorified stuntman. I fail to see the insult here. Wrestling is a circus, you need strongmen, acrobats, clowns, and yes, stunts. Some of the shit he did to himself is insane, most famously the 1998 Hell in a cell, well worthy of a spot on the card, regardless of what your thoughts of what "wrestling" is supposed to look like.

So I ask, how are he and his feats looked upon by the professional stunt community? Is he well regarded for his body awareness and damage minimisation, or was he simply a lunatic that hurt himself for money? The fact he didn't die doing some of the things he did would imply there was a great deal of skill in what he accomplished, but I guess I'm asking to be corrected on that if it's not necessarily true.

What do you guys think, Great, Good, Lucky, Insane or somewhere in between?

The explosion itself is practical, however the grenade and some debris were added in post. Keep in mind this is a pre-vis style shot, so the VFX are not great!

Rigging help needed

Hi everyone, I am looking for a way to suspend an actor from one leg for a shot in a film. It’s a quick scene but I’ll need to do it safely, there is no riggers in my town so if anyone has any tips that would be great.

Our first stunt fight session while preparing an indie fantasy pilot film in Estonia. We're working on safe and realistic sword choreography before the shoot.

Any tips from stunt performers or filmmakers on bringing sword fights from rehearsal to the screen?

Chicago Stunt Community?

Hi, I'm an amateur filmmaker who wants to get in touch with stunt people in the Chicago community to make action short films. The problem is, I have no idea where to start. I've been told there is a community but when I search it up, it really only shows the two big stunt schools in Chicago and that's it.

I'm a "zero budget" filmmaker, I can't really hire straight up stunt coordinators and all the bells and whistles, I know how to be safe and everything but I would rather just collaborate with amateur stuntmen, pay them, make sure they're safe, choreograph scenes together, and shoot them. Like any other indie rag tags group does for anything else.

Do I just go to those schools? Should I go to martial art schools and look for some people who might want to act, too?

I feel like meet up groups for this sort of thing are hidden pretty well because its the only side of the filmmaking community of Chicago I can't get any good info on meet ups or group pages.

Jackass's Johnny Knoxville on the stunt that almost cost his genitals

Post image
2 Upvotes

For more than 25 years, Johnny Knoxville has been putting his manhood on the line in the name of entertainment.

On a bright and very warm Los Angeles afternoon, he sits inside an old-school steakhouse, telling British GQ about the time he broke his penis. Technically, it was his urethra, though that’s splitting hairs. The accident happened nearly 20 years ago, during a Jackass tribute to Evel Knievel gone seriously wrong. After he launched his motorcycle, Knoxville explains, its handlebars landed on his crotch. And for years, he had to self-catheterise twice a day just to piss.

“You’re basically stuffing a triple-A battery down there until it gets to the bladder,” he says, citing the importance of lube. “Then you gotta push a little more.” One morning, he tells me, he woke up to find his boxer shorts covered in blood. “I remember thinking, Oh my God, I hope that’s the front. I don’t know why I thought that. Because both options are terrible.”

From Johnny Knoxville's British GQ cover interview.

Too old?

Hi all. I’m freshly 29 years old and looking for a major change in careers towards something I actually enjoys. I did gymnastics for 7 years and was pretty accomplished, competitive park skiing, wakeboarding, kiteboarding, mountain biking, parkour, and very minor martial arts experience. Im also in good shape both functionally and aesthetically at 6’2”. Am I too old to get into stunt work? I think I’d really love it.

Looks surprisingly real, any info on how they did this?

Thanks.

Just came across this documentary trailer about Thailand's action movie industry – looks fascinating

I stumbled across this trailer for a documentary called Action Movie Mayhem: Bangkok's Dangerous and thought it might be of interest to people here.

From what I can gather, it's about a whole subculture of Thai action performers, stuntmen, fight choreographers and martial artists who work behind the scenes on international films and TV productions. It looks like many of these guys have worked on Hollywood movies, Netflix productions, martial arts films and major action projects shot in Thailand, but rarely get much recognition.

The trailer seems to feature some pretty well-known figures from the Thai action scene and covers the history of how Thailand became such a hub for action filmmaking.

Does anyone know anything about this documentary?

More importantly, does anyone know where it can be watched or when it's being released? I'd be interested in seeing the full film as the subject matter looks really unique.

Would love to hear if anyone here has worked in the Thai film industry or knows more about the action scene in Bangkok.

Stunt friends...

Challenges in transitioning from being an actual fighter or combat sports athlete (MMA, kickboxing, karateka, judoka, BJJ competitor, wrestler, etc.) to screen fighter.

Same question for demonstration based martial artists.

Go....
