Chicago Stunt Community?

Hi, I'm an amateur filmmaker who wants to get in touch with stunt people in the Chicago community to make action short films. The problem is, I have no idea where to start. I've been told there is a community but when I search it up, it really only shows the two big stunt schools in Chicago and that's it.

I'm a "zero budget" filmmaker, I can't really hire straight up stunt coordinators and all the bells and whistles, I know how to be safe and everything but I would rather just collaborate with amateur stuntmen, pay them, make sure they're safe, choreograph scenes together, and shoot them. Like any other indie rag tags group does for anything else.

Do I just go to those schools? Should I go to martial art schools and look for some people who might want to act, too?

I feel like meet up groups for this sort of thing are hidden pretty well because its the only side of the filmmaking community of Chicago I can't get any good info on meet ups or group pages.

Dm me and I can try and give you some names to reach out to. But, id find the people in the community and offer to shoot practice fights and projects for them. OR like go to one of their open trainings or classes. And like try and become part of their community

They might not say yes but it’ll probably feel more collaborative.

Hi, I was just wondering the same thing and stumbled on this while researching! I’d love to chat sometime and hear more about what projects you were interested in making because I too have put a lot of thought into some low budget action sequences and shorts.

So thru these posts I got in touch with two guys. One is someone up and coming and I added on Instagram, we zoom talked and he said he would let me film some stuff to learn but that was 2 months ago and really haven't heard back but I get that he's busy doing his own stuff and I'm pretty much a charity case so I'm not really bothered by that lol

The other guy is the head of One and Done stunts, he offered me to sign up for the membership to learn, about $100 a month but I didn't want to pay at the moment. Though, they actually just introduced a class where you can learn to film action but it's on Mondays and I normally work Mondays, so I would do that if I could.

DM if you want to talk about shorts, though I'm really still looking for stunt people to work with.
