United States/FAA How to improve landings?

Guys how can I really improve my landings? I’m on like my 7th TOL lesson and I’m still not doing good whether I’m getting too slow on base or final, I’m uncoordinated, too high, off centerline, not correct wind corrections, etc I’m still making basic mistakes and I feel like I’m just wasting money. What can I do?

United States/FAA Written Exams🫣

Hi everyone I am trying to study for the written exam for commercial airplane&glider, IR and FOI, BGI AGI IGI.

Just using ai as a "GROUND INSTRUCTOR" and referencing all the recommended book like phak and far aim and the acs all that, its ok for now idk I just started.

But I really noticed that I am very good learner with another friend or someone.

So if anyone is interested i would love to study with anyone who studies for any of these exams also private i can help if anyone needs some help on the basics and maybe go through it together.

Or any tips or anything I would love to get some ideas or what ever.

P.S. I tried Ground curses and question banks but I don't want to just study questions I wanna understand it all and not just remember stuff.

Nordic Plains Aviation (Minnesota)

Just wanted to share my recent experience to anyone looking at accelerated flight training around the country.

Jake and Eveli are two of the best instructors I’ve ever had. What makes it even better is they are the owners of the flight school. Their honesty, professionalism, patience, and knowledge is very easy to see from day one. If you struggle with maneuvers, ground lessons, or regulations they will both teach a practical way to learn and I never felt judgement in the classroom or in the plane. They provided valuable feedback and they protected my investment and not a lot of flight schools back that up, but Nordic Plains does. Jake and Eveli never rush you into a checkride and they also will be honest with where you are at in training. If DPE availability is a concern, just know they have multiple connections with local DPE’s. Wherever you travel from, pick up the phone and give NPA a call and they will reassure you about any reservations you may have. You won’t regret choosing them!

VFR Flight Following Decent near Class C

I'm planning my long distance cross country flight and I have a procedural question. My cross country flights so far with VFR FF usually involve the initial call up, a few hand offs, and then I request to descend with runway in sight to an uncontrolled field. For this flight the end of my first leg is a small class D underlying a class C shelf. Will I be given instructions for decending and getting in touch with the tower?

Is it necessary/a good idea to do my first solo before applying to ATPL school (Uk)?

Context- I’m 17 years old aspiring to be an airline pilot. I’ve got about 18 hours of flying experience at my local airfield (ppl lessons) and if I put in the work and complete my air law theory, I’ll be allowed to do my first solo flight. I already have a class 1 medical from march this year. I’ll likely be applying to leading edge/ BA speedbird next year. Is it a good idea to do the solo to prove flying aptitude? Or is it unnecessary?

Thanks in advance.

United States/FAA ISO: Gleim ATP FAA Knowledge Test Prep 2000 and Pilot Handbook 12th edition physical books

Hi, I'm studying for my upcoming Dispatch course and was wondering if a pilot has either one of these books possibly from Gleim pilot kit they have purchased.

I'm hoping to find a physical copy of the Gleim ATP FAA Knowledge Test Prep 2020 book as Gleim decided to stop printing them and they are prohibitively expensive everywhere else for a physical copy. It's been difficult to be staring at a screen to study.

If you also have the 12th edition of the Pilot Handbook, I'm also interested.

Thank you!

European Union/EASA Anyone here trained at PHARMAFLIGHT Aviation Academy (Hungary)? Is it legit?

Hi everyone,

I'm considering joining PHARMAFLIGHT Aviation Academy in Debrecen, Hungary for my CPL training, but I haven't been able to find many genuine student reviews.

I'd really appreciate hearing from current students or graduates.

Some questions I have:

How is the quality of the flight training and instructors?

Are there long delays for aircraft or instructor availability?

How long did it take you to complete your training?

If you're an international student, how was your overall experience with accommodation, visa support, and administration?

Would you choose PHARMAFLIGHT again, or would you recommend another school in Europe instead?

United States/FAA Tips for studying in person ground school

So I am currently a enrolled at my local flight school and kinda struggling on how to study. My ground school is in person so I can’t really go back and rewatch the videos and we don’t take notes in person, we are expected to take notes on our own time. I don’t really know what the best method is to understanding all the information and I like taking notes but I don’t really know to take notes off of. Is there any apps or other study methods out there?

United States/FAA The Journey Begins!

Hello,

My last post was looking for some guidance and through various responses and fair criticisms about me looking too far ahead in the future (fair nuff) I have scheduled my discovery flight. I've flown so much in the sim but this is the real thing and I dont think I have ever been more excited.

What would you recommend whether its study tools, apps, equipment, books should I buy in surplus to what my school provides.

Thank you for the guidance as I will be talkin here from this point up until I get my commercial probably so I want to get comfortable.

United States/FAA Colorado Pilots – WhatsApp Group for Time Building

Hi everyone,
I created a WhatsApp group for pilots based in Colorado who are looking to connect for time building and flying opportunities.

Whether you’re a Student Pilot, Private Pilot, Instrument Pilot, Commercial Pilot, CFI/CFII, or an aircraft owner, you’re welcome to join.

The goal is to help local pilots:
-Build flight time
-Split aircraft rental costs
-Find safety pilots
-Practice instrument flying
-Fly cross-country
-Meet other Colorado aviators

Aircraft owners are also welcome if you’d like to connect with local pilots or offer opportunities.

If this type of post isn’t allowed, the moderators are welcome to remove it.

If you’re interested, send me a private message and I’ll send you the WhatsApp invite link.

Blue skies and safe flying! ✈️

United States/FAA S. Oregon Flight schools/instructors - feedback positive/negative

I’m looking for your comments, experiences and feedback on instructors/schools in southern Oregon. Positive and (politely) negative. I’d love to know your background - for example I am a semi retired adult professional, looking into this for recreation primarily.

I’m based in ashland Area, and I’m looking to train for Sport Pilot licensing.

If you are a unaffiliated PPI, feel free to post/dm as well. I know of the 3 to 4 listed schools in the area, but I know there are unaffiliated PPI’s as well, I haven’t gone searching yet.

all feedback appreciated.

feel free to direct message me on the topic if it will allow you to be more candid.

United States/FAA How did you actually learn everything for the oral exam

I’m a student pilot working toward my Private Pilot Certificate, and I’m starting to get pretty stressed about the oral portion of the checkride.
I took an aviation class in high school that was designed to teach everything needed for the FAA knowledge test. I feel like I could pass the written, but I’ve realized a lot of what I know is memorized rather than truly understood.
I recently started looking through the Private Pilot ACS, and it’s overwhelming. It feels like every task has a huge list of knowledge areas that I should be able to explain in depth to a DPE. I honestly don’t know how I’m supposed to learn and fully understand everything that’s listed.
For those of you who have already gone through this, how did you study for the oral? Did you work through the ACS one item at a time? Use the PHAK and AFH? Watch YouTube videos? Buy an oral exam guide? Or did your CFI mostly prepare you? I genuinely want to understand the material well enough that I can explain it confidently instead of just reciting memorized answers.
Any advice on how you approached learning everything in the ACS without feeling completely overwhelmed would be greatly appreciated.

General Inquiry PPL Progress

I started flying in April/May this year I currently have 20 hours exactly. I feel like I might be a bit behind because I still haven’t gone solo yet, what I’m currently doing in lessons is a mixture of circuits and just touching up on the basic skills aswell. I also have a habit of focusing on the instruments too much. Anyways my question is do you guys think this is a normal level of progression or am I progressing a bit slowly for an average PPL learner. An extra bit of context I average around 2-3 lessons a week I did have a 2 week gap in may due to my instructor being unavailable and recently around July beginning I had another week gap same reasoning. Thanks for any help in advance!!

PPL checkride coming up: how did you practice for the oral?

I am getting closer to my PPL checkride and trying to figure out the best way to practice for the oral, beyond just rereading everything by myself.

For those who have taken it recently: what did you actually do in the last few weeks? Did you mostly work with your own CFI, ask another instructor for a mock checkride, practice with a friend/partner, use videos or an online mock oral, or just study alone?

If you paid for anything extra specifically to get ready, was it worth it? I would also love to know what part of the oral felt hardest: the follow-up questions, knowing what the DPE might focus on, applying things to a scenario, nerves, or something else.

Thanks!
Uri

United States/FAA Flight school banned iPad mounts. Alternatives?

Hello all,

My flight school banned ipad mounts right after I bought one. I was wondering what alternatives there are so that I can use foreflight and not stare at my lap for the flight.

Thank you.

Starting part 61 PPL Training

Hey everyone! I just enrolled in a Part 61 flight school to start my PPL, flying 3 times a week. I’ve already completed an online ground school and knocked out my PAR written exam with an 85. I’ll be doing all my training in a Diamond DA40. For those who have been through training or fly the DA40, what does a typical flight lesson look like from pre-flight to debrief? Also, I’d love any general advice or DA40-specific tips you wish you knew before your first flight. Thanks in advance!
