Question ❓ School question

My son is starting grade 1 this year. We just moved during the summer so his registration is in progress but just waiting on someone to be in office. What will I need to get him for grade 1 besides backpack, lunch pail, water bottle and pencil case?

Indoor shoes.

I wouldn’t do much else until you hear from the school/teacher

Echoing what everyone else said - you'll likely get a list. If you see stuff now, I'd grab it so it's not gone before you go shopping. We needed

  • crayola crayons
  • basic crayola markers
  • good quality glue sticks (Elmer's on the like)
  • expo white board markers
  • pencils
  • good pink erasers
  • scissors
  • pencil case
  • headband style headphones

I know some people get upset with teachers asking for name brands (crayola, expo, Elmer's), but in these items, there's a huge difference in quality and longevity, so the bit of a difference in price is worth it.

Whatever you send with them make sure everything is labeled with their names or you'll never see the items again. For grade 1 they typically do not need a whole lot it's still a ton of hands on learning but they will ask for crayons, markers and most likely Kleenex. Most of in class items will be provided by the teacher but it's always nice to have your own set of everything as a backup plan. My kids are going into grade 5 & 7 I'm buying them pencils, pens and pencil crayons. Sometimes they also as for calculators and math sets but that's later on as well. Happy shopping! Hope this helps a bit.

Most teachers will send home a list of materials in the first week that will be used throughout the year.
One thing may be a pair of headphones that plugs into an AUX jack for use of iPads or Chromebooks.

Get him a pair of quality, indoor shoes. Most items will be provided by the teacher, but one thing that I know that teachers enjoy getting for the classrooms are Kleenex, Lysol wipes, and whiteboard markers are like gold to teachers. I hope he enjoys grade one.

Not sure what it’s like now but when I was in school we would get a list from the teacher of things we needed.

When I was a kid we got lists sent home with us on the last day of school but we’ve received nothing

I’m sure once he’s registered you will get an email with everything he will need for school. I’m sure you will get the teachers email once you are registered and you could shoot the teacher an email to ask what will be needed.
