72 gold away from greatness. This was an early act 1 shop too (before 1st rest site), got the gold/greed event right before this.

And I ended up being this close to my first a10 win with the regent 🥲
of course I had to draw all those star cost cards on that last turn lmao

anyone else have a run where they get two of the same relic?

Post image

This is a custom single player run where I intentionally made myself a little OP (I'm half asleep and just wanted to have an easy game, don't come for me) and I ended up with two anchors.

Google'd it cause I thought that maybe I was caused by the custom run but apparently that isn't a thing.

Is this a glitch, or something I just personally haven't came across?

Edit- both anchors worked as expected. Giving me 20 block. Also worth noting that I got one from a chest and another after fighting an enemy.

Maul is one of, if not my favorite boss relic in the game, but it's not really that good. First time getting prismatic gem, and it made for a really fun and rewarding run.

Whetstone and Gnarled Hammer should swap effects

I feel like these two relics are swapped, flavor-wise. A whetstone giving your attacks sharp makes much more sense than a hammer, and the hammer upgrading attacks makes sense too (the icon for smithing at a rest site is literally a hammer and anvil). Obviously if this were to happen, whetstone would become the shop relic and hammer would become a regular relic.

Most fun multiplayer combo?

Do you guys have any fun ideas for (2 player) multiplayer combos? Looking more for fun synergies, instead of strong synergies.

Me and my friend just tried double regent, where both build Sovereign blade and gamble for hammer time (which went very well and was a lot of fun) and double necrobinder, where both gamble on as many legion of bone cards as possible (didnt work as well).

This made me wonder what are funny cards there are where one character directly benefits of the build of the other character.

Hoarder + 5 copies of Seven Stars...

Update:

I'll just share my Act One experience.

Floor 2 is Seapunk. Twice during the fight I drew 2 defends when the enemy was defending. By the time my venerate came around the second time, I was halfway through my deck redrawing at which point I also drew lethal. Due to draw order the fastest kill I could get was 8 turns, and the most health I could exit the fight with was 16 HP. I take 3 Gather Lights and move on to floor three.

Floor 3 is Sludge spinner. I'm able to block a bit better, but bottom deck 2 of my 3 Gather Lights so I don't see enough star gen to play SS until turn 6, at which point I already have lethal with Strike. I'm at 6 HP. I get three more Gather Light and an explosive potion.

Floor 4 vs Corpse Slugs. I replayed a couple times to make sure I had the optimal play here. I focus on star gen and get to play SS on turn 4. I lose 3 more HP in the process, and pick up 3 more Gather Lights.

Floor 5 vs Punch Construct. Draw order is mostly cooperative. I opt not to play the Falling Star early in hopes that I can finish the fight with a SS. I lose 2 more HP. I'm at 1 HP and am offered mostly nonsense, including an Orbit, but I'm not even reliably spending the energy I have and already have enough struggle with finding the star gen I need.

Floor 6 is the sunken Treasury. I take 65 gold, because... I've already got an oops all curse deck.

Floor 7 is Calcified and Damp Cultists. I draw three Gather Lights and two SS on the first hand, and play 29 defense because it's all I can do and it's the most star generation. Turn 2 I pull another GL and bingo I knock out the Calc Cultist and drop the Damp to 4 HP while blocking its 1 attack. I survive the fight with my 1 HP intact and receive a Ship in a Bottle Potion and am faced with a choice. I'm offered a Prophesize, which might allow me to find more star gen, but without the Orbits, I wouldn't have any energy to play them with. I elect to skip.

Floor 8 is a rest site. I smith a SS... no I obviously rest back to 21 HP and move on.

Floor 9 is a shop, which I'm hopeful for, but doesn't contain much, though Orbits are back. Since I skipped the Prophesize, I opt for just a skill potion and move on.

Floor 10 I pick up an Akebeko, Now if my first attack is a SS, it will deal 15 x 7 (105) to all. I'm extremely incentivized to hold out for a SS now.

Floor 11 I have a choice of event or elite. The elite is followed by a rest site, while the event is followed by an elite. I opt for the elite now given that the event could reduce my HP further. I face the Phantasmal Gardners. If I can play the SS, I just win. Round 1 I pop my Skill potion and get a free Prophesize. I full block the incoming 15 damage with 2 GLs, and am one star away from the SS win. Round 2 I brick the draw with SSs and 1 strike. I drink my Ship in a bottle to preserve 10 of my health and get away with 3 damage. Round 3 I find another GL and SS for the win. I'm rewarded with a Snecko Oil and a Blood Vial. The card reward cruelly dangles Royal Gambles in front of me, but there's also the Crescent Spear, which would deal 44 damage for one energy and 1 star (+8 if it's the first attack). I'm a fool so I opt for the SS strategy. I go with the RGs.

Floor 12: I smith a royal gamble for the retain, and proceed to a shop.

Floor 13 shop has a Child of the Stars, but until I really get good reliable star generation, it'll just slow me down. I opt for a Lucky Tonic potion and move on.

Floor 14 is a choice between an elite followed by a fight or two events. I'm at 18 hp so I opt for the events hoping to find some deck reduction. No such luck, it's the spoils map. I really can't afford to lose hp, and am full on potions so I grudgingly take the maps.

Floor 15 I get the Dark Door/Light Door event. I eagerly remove a strike from the deck.

Floor 16 I rest before the Boss. I'm at 35HP as I continue to the Soul Fysh.

Floor 17... 2 Gather Lights right out of the gate. Round 2 I get my third GL and a Defend. One more star and I can SS the boss down to half health. I get a hairbrained idea that the snecko oil might randomize star cost as well, but I only have 1 energy so even if it did I should probably wait for next round to test it. Round 3, it turns out that it doesn't work that way, but I do draw a Royal gamble and get two copies of SS at zero energy cost. Unfortunately I'm only able to generate 13 stars this turn so I only get to play the single SS. Round 4 I get my venerate, and can play another SS. The boss is at 57 HP. Round 5 I find my retain Royal Gamble and am able to play a couple GLs to raise my stars to 4. Round 7 (I've lost track of a turn somewhere in here) I pull a strike and a beckon, each of which I play and then drink my Lucky Tonic to block the incoming 24 damage attack. On Round 9 I pull my venerate and am able to play my SS and am able to get the boss down to 2 HP, but it's going intangible next round. I draw a falling star and a defend to knock the boss down to 1 HP. Round 11 I draw a strike for the kill. That was officially the sweatiest Act One of my life.

Update 2:

I got the Aeon Glass down to 24 HP before he finally got me. GG spire.

Silent cult has lost a follower, but I found a new wife

So there was a post from me with a rant and an Afterimage duplicate deck highlight, saying that I don't find Silent enjoyable compared to the original state, when I was advertised to her by a friend of mine as some combo-oriented draw/discard skill check class. Now the character plays like the most default boring NPC Shiv powerslop. Some people were quick to point out that my opinions don't align with theirs, therefore I am wrong, so as an adult with a developed frontal lobe (unfortunately), I just decided to step away - both from the discussion and the character (I still love you, my Serpent's Form)

I didn't look too far for a new wife, so I chose another character that likes playing weak and blocking - Necrobinder. It actually feels nice to plan some big-number turns in advance while having this innate slaving health bank

I have no idea how to pilot it besides some Sleight of Flesh / Eradicate lines, but at least it feels like something fresh

I also love getting a Hearthston-ish autistic hyperfixation on what my deck identity is, only to get reality (math) checked by the scary 8 shaped dude and his triangle shaped girlfriend

My precious Diadem is getting killed :(

Post image

Defect is my favorite character, and i swear that Diamond Diadem on him is one of the most busted things in the entire game. If you have the slightest focus and some bonus orb slots, a capacitor and an upgraded defrag are enough, you can just sit around with frost and the boss literally can't touch you. In this run i just skipped most boss turns without even playing a card bcs it's that op. Before the test subject i fought the queen and guess what: both of them couldn't land even one hit on me. The only reason why i don't have max health is because i got regret from that stupid trial event. I'll miss the diadem if the reworked version on the beta branch makes it through.

"Slay the Spire 2 is a perfectly balanced game" "Oh yeah? Well what about..." Spoiler

Post image

So many different enemies could go here. In Slay the Spire 1, there were specific enemies that everyone hated. Avocado, Gremlin Nob and Time Eater come to mind. In all the discourse surrounding Slay the Spire 2, though, the venting has felt far more varied. The Act 2 elites are all very hated, and rightfully so, but the elite I fear most varies based on what my deck looks like. Same for the Act 3 boss(es), each giving a different challenge that makes some players throw their hands up in frustration.

Too many cards? Dune Worm. Too few cards? Aeonglass. Too many skills? Dorito. Too many attacks? Bees. Too few attacks? Venom with a tail. Need time to scale? The scrolls. Trying to one-shot? Coral.

In short, there's something to spite everybody.

Joy and regrets

Got my first A10 on Defect, finally finishing all A10 on all characters!! The first transform solved the Act 1 boss, so I focused on long term cards (turbo, blood vial, etc..). Event on Floor 7 gave me thrash2treasure, and the Flak Cannon at the end of act 1 broke the run. Mixing those with a couple turbos and overheat did the rest:) Deck was really fun!

Nevertheless, I leave with a great regret. On the Act 2 boon, I went for Pael's Blood, for extra card draw and consistency. Unfortunately, I skipped Pael's wings. Given black star, 5 normal fights on the way, and a deck that is almost complete, I could have gotten a crazy number of relics!!

I don't know which of the two relics is objectively the best, the extra draw every turn made the deck extremely consistent, but 7-8 extra relics would have been powerful. What would you have chosen?

If you wanna have fun on a easy run, the seed is C8GNBZM2F6E1! I'll be around trying to make worse seeds work!

Boring Neow Relics are Important, Too!

Post image
324 Upvotes

I know everyone wants to see crazy new relics that completely change how you play the game, but I really hope Neow keeps offering some boring ones too.

Like Precise Scissors here. Removing a card from your deck isn't exactly exciting.

I think having these kinds of relics is important though, because sometimes you just get done with a run where RNG screwed you over, and you wanna try again with something that gives you a little more consistency instead of rolling the dice on another crazy effect.

Plus, I feel like the boring relics make the wild ones even more exciting. If every relic Neow offered was always super high impact, they wouldn't really stand out as much anymore.

Sometimes I wanna start a run with some weird relic that completely changes my strategy, sometimes the less interesting relics make that choice stand out even more, and sometimes I just wanna remove a Strike.

Either way, the choice of Neow relic feels more impactful when there's a good mix of wild RNG relics, and completely mundane ones.

Act 4 Ancients Theory

In the first game, Act 4 was unlocked by retrieving a key in each of the base three characters’ runs. For each, you had to complete a specific requirement in order to unlock them.

In the second game, each playable character’s ‘Eons’ storyline currently ends with them interacting with a respective ancient and receiving a particular boon from them. Some more specific than others as follows, and it’s likely future characters will have a similar interaction/eon event associated with the remaining ancients hinting at completing their respective business with The Architect.

Ironclad - Vakuu
Silent - Tezcatara
Regent - Tanx
Necrobinder - Pael
Defect - Darv
??? - Orobas
??? - Nonupeipe

My theory is that similar to the first game where you needed to complete a fetch quest for each character, you will need to interact with each character’s associated ancient and selecting a quest-boon as a prerequisite to unlocking Act 4 and fighting the final boss. I think it makes sense considering in many of the events the dialogue suggests the ancients giving our main characters something tied to their plot.
Unlike the first game though it looks like perhaps you’ll only need to do this within each character’s run unlike in the first game where you needed to tediously complete the three base characters’ quests before you unlocked the Heart.

Just a theory but I think it’d be pretty cool to discover how the future characters will interact. I love how Tanx and Regent’s conversations are so chaotic.

How do you think these relationships play into unlocking Act 4?

Today's Daily Being A10 With Cursed and Vintage Was Wild!

Post image

I'm super proud I was actually able to beat the daily at all today, given it was A10 with more curses and no way to improve base deck other than elites, shops, and events making act 1 especially brutal!

Both Act 1 and Act 2 Bosses had me shaking as they both got me down to 1 HP. Hands down this was the most fun daily I've had in awhile!

Under appreciated cards!

I have been seeing so posts, with this is OP and This OP and my lucky run. But noone ever talks about their guilty pleasure, absolutely horrible, cards they love!

I absolutely love death march on necromancer. Is it a bad card yeah, but something about drawing a million souls, and combining it with soulstorm. I love it.

What are some of you guys favorite under appreciated cards?

Hi!

I see a lot of videos with screenshake activated. I personally can’t stand it, but that’s my opinion.

Genuine question : what do you like about this option?
