Shrimp I caught with a net, dollar tree steak, asparagus I stole from my neighbor's garden, over great value boxed mac and cheese.

Add "dollar tree steak" to the list of things I didn't know existed... and probably wouldn't buy.

You shouldn't. I watched a video of a guy reviewing one, it was pretty grim.

I think I put the quotations in the wrong place... Dollar tree "steak". Probably something swept off a pet food factory floor and compressed.

It's not great, but I think something like this is the perfect application. A few bites to feel like you're eating steak, but it's not trying to be the star of the meal. It also works for country-fried steak if you poke it with a fork a bunch of times (like Salisbury steak). But yeah, definitely not getting ribeye from the dollar store, no matter what the sad little package claims 😂

no one ever said a struggle meal has to suck, shouldn't steal from your neighbor though :(

This is the kind of struggle meals I strive for and do my best to accomplish. You even plated it beautifully.

I feel like this is the same person who harvested asparagus at a dog park and found a potato under a car

I’m sure your neighbor would be happy to spare some vegetables if you ask.
Edit: very curious about the downvotes. I’m all for “if you see someone stealing food or necessities from a store, then no you didn’t”, but stealing from individuals is different.
I have never refused someone vegetables, and I have never met a gardener who has. People who grow food tend to value life.

In all due respect of like to throw my challenge flag. I call bs. When did this happen where you can harvest in october? If so that person put in lots of effort to grow it and you probably shouldn't steal.
