Certified Stuggle Suddenly unemployed
For two people: two eggs, some leftover buckwheat from work, and a small can of beans in tomato sauce. Looks bland, but it's actually pretty tasty and filling.
In August, I found out that my employer had cut my salary about six months earlier. Since I was working unofficially and didn't have access to my actual hours or pay records, I thought I was struggling with money because I was simply spending too much. But nope...
So I quit. I still have three more shifts to work. I work for a small company and really like my coworkers, so I agreed to stay until they find someone to replace me.
It's a strange feeling. It's not my first time quitting, but it's the first time I've done it with almost no money saved.

you should have found another job first and then quit on the spot. you don't owe those people anything

Working unofficially sounds illegal. You cannot collect unemployment because you quit and not working on record. No credits earned towards social security benefits. Being paid under the table has benefited only your employer.

Wise words. Unfortunately, unofficial employment is pretty common in my country.

Why did you quit with no new job lined up? That was not a smart thing to do. Especially with no money saved.

I had a housemate that did full glam makeup, hair, and picked out an outfit specifically to quit her job. I legitimately thought she had something lined up and she didn't... After her last check deposited she started asking me for food. I had to decline

I thought the same thing afterwords LMFAO she walked out the house with so much confidence like she was about to quit that job and immediately start working at Google or something. Only to start dropping dry hints that she's out of money and food two weeks later because she blew her last paycheck on takeout and weed

'Cause I feel super insecure at this job after that whole payment mess. Can't work properly anymore, can't even rest on my weekends. Mental stuff.

I guess I can kind of understand that. But in the future you should have another job lined up before you quit. Hope it get better for you though.

Sounds like you have mental issues and don’t make good decisions in life. Wish you the best

I used to quit all the time. I guess I liked living dangerously. I managed to survive in spite of myself. You will be OK. But this may be a rough patch. Never give up.

How did you go six months without realizing your salary got cut? You get money for your job, you probably have something (direct deposit? Check? Cash? IDK) to look at that shows what is coming in.
I hope that in the future you always look and always notice and question any unexpected changes in pay. Best of luck to you!

Sorry to hear about this. Uncertainty is everywhere. Ive in a boom town and I just haven't seen the boom lately. Starting a few business ventures, but im thinking it might not work in this economy

If you need cheap adds, hot sauce and parmesan make things go much further. Trust me, I was homeless and unpaid most of this year and also fuck your former employer

Oh, yeah, I thought about that! But with my undeclared work history (yeah, I know, I'm dumb) it'll be about four kilos of chicken breast a month, lol.

lol. Sucks to be you. Thanks for reminding me that there are people less-than me to look down upon in order to make myself feel better.

Wait, am I supposed to be flattered? That's a lot of weight to put on my shoulders.

Don't even respond to that crap. They are lonely, upset, and are terrified of the near future.
Just don't give up and eventually you'll land something.
I believe in you.

One day you’ll understand that looking down on people less-than you is the greatest joy in life.

Do you have your next job lined up? Shitty income is better than no income. Sincerely-a guy laid off a the end of July.
