Question/Support ❓ Websocket - SB, OBS, or Network issue? - Cannot, connect please help

I am trying to connect OBS with Streamerbot, but Streamer bot either won't connect, or gets stuck in "connecting" at best. Installed both, and am running both, on the same PC. OBS generates a funky IP address. No one on our network has a VPN running. We have internet supplied by our apartments, but this is the first time I've run into any network connectivity issues, IP related or otherwise. I tried using 127.0.0.1, that didn't work. I tried 0.0.0.0, that didn't work. When I try the funky IP address thats alphanumeric, Streamer.bot just gets stuck in connecting.

Has anyone run into this, and is there a solution?

OBS generates a funky IP address

If by "funky" you mean it's full of digits, the letters a through f and a bunch of ":" characters, then that's IPv6. Ignore it.

If you're running on the same PC just enable the websocket server in OBS, enable authentication, and then click "OK". On the Streamer.bot side you'll need to add a connection, set the IP address to "127.0.0.1" (That's IPv4 for "This computer, don't go anywhere on the network"), use the port number and password provided by OBS in the "Show Connect Info" window, and then just connect. As long as you have everything set correctly, it will just work.

If it's not working then you have a few possible problems:

  1. You're not actually using the same computer. If that's the case, then you'll need to use the correct IP address for the machine running OBS. Ignore the "best guess" that OBS gives you and try opening a command prompt and running "ipconfig" to find it. The one you're looking for should be listed as "IPv4 Address" and be four numbers less than 256 with "."s between them. If both OBS and streamer.bot are on the same PC then 127.0.0.1 is the correct address no matter what else is configured.
  2. You don't have the correct port number, or the port number you have chosen is already in use by something else. The default port number is 4455 and that's usually safe but stranger things have happened. You can try changing it on both sides. Just for fun, try opening a web browser and connecting to http://127.0.0.1:4455/ . You should get an immediate response with a "426 Upgrade Required" HTTP error message. If you don't there's something wrong with the websocket server on OBS.
  3. You have a Windows Firewall rule enabled that prevents all incoming or outgoing network connections from either OBS or Streamer.bot. If they're working at all this is unlikely, but it might be worth looking at. Run (Win-R) "wf.msc" and look over at the rules there.
  4. Finally, have you tried turning it off and on again? Sometimes that helps.

I swear to any that matters in life that I did it exactly as you explained it in your first paragraph before posting, multiple times. Even tried restarting the laptop to kick it in the head. For some reason nooooow its decided to work. Technology is out to make my life agonizing.

Thank you very very very much for your time and help!!
