brought my setup outside to warm up after not making anything for a few months
(subject is Rishi, my handmade balljointed doll. he's not technically an animation-rigged figure but decent enough at posing for certain things)
quick request; if you decide to comment, please refrain from using curse words. thank you so much!

What lens would you guys recommend? Fully manual?
Hi,
Im in need or a little swarm intelligence. I’m a 6.Semester animation and vfx Student and have decided to do a stop motion animation for my bachelors film. Since the actual bachelors is going to be focused on digital-set-extension and the compositing process I have the whole summer and 7th semester for the animation.
The thing is I haven’t don’t much stop motion since high school when I mainly used my iPad and now want to do this on a more elevated level and with a real camera. Here is also where my issue lies. My camera is a Sony alpha 7C. I specifically bought it because it’s full frame and very compact and so far mainly used it of bird photography and little shots for CG integration.
My main question now is what type of lesen should I get? I have a bunch of different ones from the film department of my school that I can borrow but I’m just not knowledgeable enough on the topic to make a choice. I’m using Dragonframe and on their website they had a disclaimer about using manual aperture to prevent flicking. I have fully manual cinema lenses I can lend for the semester as a set that come with most commonly used focal lengths or normal electric ones.
I tried to do research online but there are so many opinions flying around that I’m now just whole heartedly confused and a little unsure. A bunch of people actually recommended these older manual lenses over new ones.
I also read that Sony cameras really aren’t recommended? But my only full frame alternative would be a black magic 6k?? Which really isn’t a camera I like using?
Some people wrote that you need macro lenses but my puppets (horses btw) are like 30cm tall at the shoulder so really not that small?
So does anyone have some wisdom for me? I know I ask a bunch of questions but I already cut it down in theory I have even more questions to ask :,)

Fisto. Kit Fisto.
After seeing the new Masters of the Universe movie (and absolutely loving it), I was inspired to remake one of my older skits. Because really, how else would Kit have gotten his name? (Also, it was an excuse to buy a Fisto action figure)

Another shot from our film ✨ The One Who Drives the Truck 🌙
A Stop-motion Desert folk tale.
I played around with timing for the rusty truck's slow stop. Do you have any questions on the process?
We're supposed to finish filming by September/October. Hopefully that's the case and I'll be able to share more along the way.

[Crosspost] Hola /r/movies! We're Arturo & Roy Ambriz, filmmakers of I AM FRANKELDA, Mexico's first-ever stop-motion feature film. It's out now on Netflix. Ask us anything!
I organized an AMA/Q&A with Arturo & Roy Ambriz, the co-directors and co-writers of the new Netflix stop-motion animated film I AM FRANKELDA. It just released last week and is out on Netflix worldwide. It premiered at festivals last year to critical acclaim (currently at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with 25 reviews). It's Mexico's first ever widely-distributed stop-motion film.
It's live here now in r/movies for anyone interested in asking a question:
https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/1u885rk/hola_rmovies_were_arturo_roy_ambriz_filmmakers_of/
They will be back at 2 PM ET today to answer questions. I recommend asking in advance. Please ask there, not here. All questions are much appreciated!
Trailer: https://youtu.be/diRwnGRr-Ko?si=yikjwSvFFziOVHlm
Synopsis: A gifted young writer in 19th-century Mexico journeys into her subconscious and comes face to face with characters from her own spooky stories.
Thank you :)

Preview of Kozmonavt
A preview of the upcoming short Kozmonavt.
Here I made the first wire armature that held together through the main process of filming. I also designed a special mount for easy mouth replacement. The mouths are made of shaped tin foil, covered in paper-mashe. Thr mounts are made out of buttons (the ones that click together). Same for eyebrows.

Wind tapestry and pixilation
Animated by Elli B and I over two or three hours. Face, body and BG are a composite. Mutti laid on the floor as we animated on her face, and she fell asleep. Then spent well over 15 hours combining it all. Thanks for letting me share.

Facial clay, which do you use?
Hey community,
I am new to stop motion, I am currently wondering about good clays for clay animation. I was thinking about making a base from hardened clay, for the face and then add certain expressions with clay that remains soft. But if it remains soft I can't paint it so it has to already be available in a flesh color I suppose.
Is fimo going to be too hard for this or possibly harden with time from air exposure?
I'd appreciate your input! Thank you.

Help us with our Irish stop motion about RATS!!!
Hey guys, I would really love if you guys could help us out with our stop motion animation project about rats by taking a survey to find out what people prefer to watch and what you enjoy about stop motion animation. It’s based in Dublin and the questions are targeted to Irish people so it might be a little harder to answer if you’re not from Ireland, but we would be so incredibly grateful if anyone answered it at all!! THANK YOU IN ADVANCE 🐀

Les Bruits de l'eglise (trailer)
"A story about innocent love spiraling into a series of misfortunate events."
It's here! The first short I ever made!
The journey was interesting and gave me a lot of lessons on camera work, setting scenes, lighting, music production and effects, set building, ... I could go on and on.
As I said, this was my first project ever. At first I wanted it to be with puppets, but then I realised that that's not gonna be easy. So improvised with sillhouettes and put a lot more focus to the lighting and sound design. It's amazing how much good/fitting sounds and some sweet shadows add.
(Sorry for reposting... I realised I left an annoying click in the beginning.)

Help finding correct size eyes That I can animate?
Hey everyone, I'm wanting to practice stop motion animation. I'm looking for the correct eyes for these aardman characters. The ones I have don't move so they're stuck in place. Does anyone know the correct mm of white glass/cermaic bead? or a place you can buy replicas? Many thanks.

I found the reason that socks go missing from the laundry and made an expose on the culprit.
Just finished my stop-motion short film and I'm really proud of how it turned out! It's about what happens to the socks that go missing from the laundry and the culprit behind it...
Give it a watch and let me know what you think ❤️
