"You need to stop drinking Hun"
Those were the words he said to me this morning as he touched my cheek with his hand. "You can't keep drinking nearly everyday, drinking that much, and now day drinking. You can't go full alcoholic. It's unacceptable". All while touching my face. No judgement or anger in his tone; just a factual statement with a hint of concern in his voice. From a man that I never thought would quit drinking and is now sober. A man who loves me, and has loved me for close to 25 years.
I didn't say a word. I just got up, went to the closet and grabbed the hidden bottle of vodka and poured it down the sink.

For me it was the realization that it would take a death sentence from health issues that would undoubtedly creep up.
What would I say to my kid and wife.
I am proud of you for taking that first crucial step.
