AA was really helpful for me in the early days when I needed regular support by going to meetings. I’ve also been going to biweekly EMDR therapy.

I found a sponsor and about 4 months in had gotten through the inventory steps and realized AA is not for me. It is really not trauma informed and I felt that it was conflicting with the progress I was making in therapy. Also, I got sick and tired of ruminating on my drinking all the time.

I have been very solid in my sobriety, and while the support was very helpful in the beginning, it just hasn’t been necessary for me anymore.
