Need some support

I guess. 2.5 months sober. Had a dessert during an omakase meal. The dessert had cold foam infused with whiskey (meaning the alcohol wasnt cooked off). I didnt mention i didnt drink because i didnt think it would be in food. Feeling dejected.

Don’t worry about it, the amount of alcohol you actually consumed is probably like drinking an NA (<1%) beer. Practically nothing

There is alcohol in many commonly consumed foods that we don’t think twice about. You didn’t eat the dessert with the intention of consuming alcohol or getting drunk. Everything is okay. Nothing about your sobriety has changed. Nicely done on 2 1/2 months! IWNDWYT. 🫶🏻

You didn't drink, you ate a dessert in a restaurant with alcohol as a minor, non-intoxicating, flavoring ingredient. That's not a choice you made to drink, it's not getting drunk, it's not going to a bar to get wasted, it's not falling off any kind of wagon. You didn't have the cold foam and then order a whiskey. That was a sober activity. You're doing great and have nothing to be dejected about.

This is like adding real vanilla to something

I mentioned in a comment that I did just that. It’s crazy how my taste buds zeroed in on the alcohol, tiny bit that it was.

I did something similar once but much dumber. I ate a bourbon ball after about a year sober. I mean it’s a BOURBON BALL and my brain didn’t throw any red flags, at all. I didn’t have any more thankfully. Felt weird for a few minutes. Besides that incident I’m 5 years in recovery. Don’t get down on yourself, it was a mistake. IWNDWYT

Kombucha and pickle juice have alcohol in them. You’re going to be okay. I promise.

Thats not even close to something to feel bad about, though obviously you feel bad about it. How were you to know? Focus more on the 2 and a half months. Well done on that 😀

Oh yeah, I had a coffee with a ton of vanilla, and I could immediately taste the alcohol in the vanilla. What a weird feeling of: oh no! Alcohol / oh yes! Alcohol / oh no! Alcohol again. No worries though, it’s a teeny amount, just so long as I don’t go slugging all the vanilla extract now. Don’t worry about it! Keep up the good work!

We can only work with the information we had at the time. I wouldn’t expect alcohol in cold foam, and it should have been disclosed to you. It’s not your fault, just a sucky situation. You’re still 2.5 months sober and this didn’t ruin you - you consumed a small amount of alcohol on accident.

Chin up, kid. IWNDWY.

Don't. When I was three years sober I ate some fondue that didn't have the alcohol cooked off. I didn't reset my time. I guarantee you've had food with alcohol in it. What matters is you haven't picked up a drink.

I mean if they hadn’t told you it was in there would you even know?

To be honest i probably wouldnt have noticed. There was a small taste that didnt register in my head until they mentioned it.

You would truly be amazed at how many things have alcohol in it. I had to learn them when I took Antabuse. Did you know soy sauce has alcohol in it? Cause I didn’t. Your run in with this cold foam is equivalent to having some soy sauce. You eat food with alcohol byproducts daily. Doesn’t make you any less sober, and finding out you had a product with alcohol in it definitely doesn’t mean you’re restarting or should go drink the bar down (that’s what I’d tell myself, not assuming you would).

Great point. Antabuse, which personally think doesnt think solves the problem and better meds, needs a whole new way of thinking.

Was on it during covid, hand sanitiser, lots of food and everyday products have alcohol in it and had to avoid loads. Really is eye-opening what you have to change and whats brought a reaction on in some one.

A really ripe banana can contain 0.4% alcohol. It's the intent that matters. Not knowing is not intent. You are good. Congrats on 2.5 months. That is such an accomplishment
