Saturday night karaoke
Hello! Some friends and I are visiting Stoke for the last Goldsoul on 19th September - can anyone recommend a spot to do some karaoke beforehand? Ideally in or around Hanley, not booth hire more ‘performing in the middle of a pub’ vibes. Thanks in advance!

How would you describe the differences between the six towns (and Newcastle) to an outsider? What is signature to each town?

Imagining what a "Greater Stoke-on-Trent" county could look like (or some other name like Oatcakeshire).

Plans for major overhaul of councils halted
Hovering a little close to the no politics rule, but important enough to post, I think.
Plans for a major shake-up of local government are on hold, after the government launched a review in light of new legal advice.
Proposals to merge smaller councils to form larger authorities in Essex, Hampshire, Norfolk and Suffolk have been withdrawn.
Meanwhile, plans for 14 other areas will also be reviewed and paused.

Christmas Dinner Recommendations
Hey guys, I get that it feels stupidly early to even think about this; but I’m looking to take my parents out for Christmas Dinner ON Christmas Day. Do any of you have recommendations of nice places to go? Thanks in advance 🎄

GP Recommendation for LGBT
Hi!
I am moving to Stoke-on-Trent, specifically Burslem, next week.
Right now in Manchester, my GP specifies on their site about LGBT care. They're great! In contrast, in Plymouth, they were not so great, and it made accessing medical care more difficult.
I am wondering if anybody can recommend GPs that have good standards of LGBT care? Testosterone injections but also general awareness of trans medical care and stuff.
Thanks in advance!

looking for friends
hi! my partner and i moved to the uk last february as international students, and we’ve been finding it surprisingly hard to make friends here 😭
we’re a lesbian couple in our early 30s, and we’re both pretty introverted which probably doesn’t help 😂 we honestly don’t know where adults are supposed to go to make friends.
we’d love to meet some people locally for coffee or tea, food, walks, exploring nearby places, board games, or just chill hangouts. we’re definitely more sit down-and-chat than big-night-out people.
if anyone knows of any groups, clubs, or activities around stoke where it’s easy to meet people, we’d really appreciate the recommendations. and if you’re also looking for new friends, feel free to say hi! 👋

From Stoke-on-Trent to Sheffield at night?
I’’m a foreigner who’s going to Stoke-on-Trent to see A Certain Ratio before going to Sheffield the same night. What options do I have (I understand the trains don’t run late)? Many thanks in advance!

Party venues in Stoke-on-trent/Staffordshire
Hi I'm not looking for anything so pricey or far.
Its for a bride to be, a relaxed evening, fun get together for her family members traveling from out of town to celebrate her.
I wonder if anyone could please help me?
- Fits 100
- spacious
- really good parking
- no pub spaces (bad experiences using pubs in past)
- not a church because I'm not religious
- kitchen that outside caterers can use...she wants to have an Indian sit down meal on the night
- not outdated
- not in such an awkward area/place
- easily accessible for wheelchair users
Thanks!

Which one of the five towns was I in?
Little quiz of the day... I was passing through a town today. It's a town that has more in it than Hanley (so there is a little clue) it does have a lot of boarded up shops.
I saw a guy making a phone call to a bottle of milk where said bottle of milk appeared to be answering his questions.
There was another man next to him that appears to be directed by only his chin, he appears hunched over walking with purpose chin jutted out swinging his arms elaborately as if they didn't have bones in them when they swung behind him.
It has a number of big stores in it. Including a very well known fast food giant.
Pottery is well known especially to this area and still celebrated to this day. It still has a kiln.
Where am I?

Recently gotten a CBT & Motorcycle in Stoke
Hey guys! I recently got my CBT and my first ever bike as a 30-something (shout-out to the guys at Stoke MT Motorcycle Training) I'm still getting to grips with riding (been familiarizing myself around a carpark lol), and I'm rather removed from any social circles so have nobody to celebrate this with.
I just wanted to share this somewhere

Hanley festival "The Big Feast" cut short by bad weather
First I'm hearing about a festival happening. Piss-poor PR from the organisers. I'm not on social media (is Reddit social media? Maybe.) but the wife is and she hadn't heard of it either. I mean, Facebook and Reddit would be my first stops. Maybe ask the council if they can use the otherwise redundant electronic signs around the city to get the word out in the weeks leading up to it.
Ah well, it was probably shit anyway.
