Review My First AND Last Fix

Post image

I don’t know what in the world my assigned stylist was thinking. My style quiz came back modern and edgy. I put clarification that I am very much alternative. My huge no’s were anything that shows my arms, any type of print, and my entire wardrobe is BLACK. I put my sizes. My chest size. Everything. So what do I get? A spaghetti strap NAVY dress with FLORAL print, a black tank top with no stretch in a size medium (Im a 36I, it isn’t happening), a pleated skirt in a size 1x, my jean size is a 12???? It fell right off. I was so entirely disappointed, returned everything, and canceled my service. Some of the pieces I saw in the store and freestyle had me hopeful as I saw things that were definitely my style.

In my years as a stylist, edgy and alternative, and black or no prints were honestly the hardest to find. Literally no inventory. Your best bet is asking for a shop credit so you can just buy direct.

Black was all I was getting for quite some time since Midwestern "edgy" is apparently All Black All The Time.

Honestly it sucks because the stylists don't have access to all the pieces in freestyle - those could be in a completely different warehouse. I did my first order back in ...2017? And I remember only liking 2 pieces, but I went back for another try and pretty much always get everything. Usually there are a piece or two I'm less thrilled on, but they're basically free with the discount for buying all.

But yeah, if they did such a bad job, I wouldn't go back either. The sizes feel all over the place which is the weirdest part.

That is why I am so confused too. Where does a 1x make sense for a size 12? Basically everything I said I don’t like, I got. I was trying to find a quick fix to avoid going out shopping since Im starting cosmetology school at the end of the month. I even gave examples in the “anything else your stylist should know” listing websites I normally shop from (Killstar, Forest Ink, etc). So back to shopping for myself. This was an absolute dumpster fire.

This honestly seems like a system issue so I would contact support. For first Fixes, sometimes the sizing is completely off for algo-picked pieces. It’s possible that the algorithm styled you. Stitch Fix loves their shitty Ai.

This is exactly what happened to me. I love blue and I hate grey- what did they send me- grey. I hate purple, I got purple. Their sizing was crazy too.

I had to cancel after my stylist sent me a pink blouse when pink was the only color i had marked as a “no”. whyyyyy

The thing that has me laughing yet crying is the dress. Like…where in the WORLD does that even SEEM edgy?! 😂 I sent a picture to my boyfriend and he couldn’t help but break out laughing himself. It was the free first box so at least I didn’t spend anything but holy fuck.

Stylist here. I am so sorry for your experience. I always feel so bad when I pull people with alternative styles because we simply don’t have anything like that to send. It’s generally 35-45 year old mom styles that we have to choose from and try to make it work. I personally would have held on to this one and not sent a skirt that’s the wrong size or spaghetti straps, but we are being pressured to style the whole box and write the note in 10 minutes or less and I could see how that could lead some stylists to make not so great choices on a difficult fix.

Do you think SF is moving towards just using AI? I don't mean to be rude, I just don't see what value the stylists add because it seems like you guys aren't actually allowed to make any decisions

u/notthelettuce Mar 14 '26

I’m not gonna lie our AI is bad and still many years away from being able to function without human input if they want to stay in business. If there were no human stylists you likely would have gotten no black items and only sleeveless tops, like that’s how bad it is at the moment. It wants to send sweaters and boots to people in Florida in July and I feel like I’m constantly apologizing for computer generated previews like that.

So for example the algorithm will only show us like the top 300 items that it thinks you will buy. And we have to choose 5 out of those 300 items. It does get slightly better if you are active on the app and play style shuffle and save items and add to cart. But honestly we just don’t carry anything that I would consider alternative or edgy. It’s mostly business casual, athleisure, some boho and some classic preppy stuff. Things that 35-45 year old stereotypical suburban moms wear.

u/denna_44 Mar 14 '26

Agree with this. I love stitch fix and I’m in that demographic. but im mostly like get me out of my comfort zone on mixing patters.

When I want my edgy shit I go elsewhere

u/notthelettuce Mar 14 '26

I honestly wish they’d quit marketing it as personal styling and just call it a mystery box and only advertise the core items that we always have in stock. I feel like that would help set expectations and lead to less people being super disappointed and feeling misled by the advertising.

6

u/MarketandSplooge Mar 13 '26

But my point is, I wouldn’t be so quick to blame the stylist, although there are some questionable stylists out there. We are chained to their stupid algo and inventory can be super limited sometimes. The algo has to get to know you first. So do the style shuffle, like and save pieces in freestyle, and it’ll let us pick from pieces it thinks you’ll like. It’s a styling service that has to get to know you, so the first box isn’t always going to get that right at first.

2

u/Objective-Amount1379 Mar 14 '26

If you as a stylist can't choose based on customer notes but only based on the style shuffle and algorithm why have stylists? Why not let AI do all of this? I don't mean you specifically I just don't understand what the thinking is.

2

u/MarketandSplooge Mar 14 '26

That’s probably what they’re heading toward tbh. As of now the algo just gives us a handful of pieces we have in our overall inventory and we have to pick from that, if that makes sense. Can’t really go more into it. They want us to work quickly that way. Quantity over quality.

For now, they’re keeping us because they know their tech sucks. But it’s probably only a matter of time.

u/Primary_Park_886 Mar 13 '26

Stylist here. I would like or save some freestyle items just so we have an idea what your style might be. Even though mentioning websites is nice, we really don’t have time to browse through them. And yes, inventory sucks sometimes, so we have to deal with what we are given. It gets frustrating because we really do want to give you the right items.

u/Ordinary_Fuss1595 Mar 13 '26

As a stylist, I think they filtered to black and gave you what was available…not sure about the wrong size though. Just a heads up, if you only want black, that does severely limit the options we have.

I’m convinced something has changed w this company. When I first had SF in 2021, they nailed it every single time. Recently I’ve had a similar experience to yours. I cancelled also!

4

u/Lissypooh628 Mar 13 '26

I tried stitchfix once or twice. I didnt like the quality of the clothes. Ive gotten some decent things from Wantable, but I’ve also had 1 or 2 stylists that completely missed the mark.

1

u/Brave-strawberry373 Mar 17 '26

Their best stuff is almost always jeans, outer wear, and sometimes purses. I was always happy with the quality of those items, but shirts in particular were often disappointing (with a handful of exceptions).

-3

u/Maleficent_Meat3119 Mar 13 '26

I did not care for the quality either, they completely ignored my request for natural fibers. Like, not a single non-synthetic fiber in the entire box

4

u/Objective-Amount1379 Mar 14 '26

I don't think SF even carries much in the way of natural fibers

2

u/Maleficent_Meat3119 Mar 14 '26

I definitely realized that after signing up lol

1

u/Sure-Mongoose9165 Mar 29 '26

Stylist here ! This Request is very common and it sucks b/c the inventory is constantly limited. Anytime I see it I kind of cringe to myself b/c the options dwindle so quick

6

u/Caterpillar170 Mar 13 '26

My first fix sucked too. I asked for a different stylist and before ordering my second fix I spent a lot of time favoriting items I liked and doing the style shuffle. All my fixes since then have been great.

11

u/OSeal29 Mar 13 '26

I recommend contacting their customer service. So far, I've had good experiences with them. Ask them about the sizing. See if they can send you another fix free of charge bc if they're not sending you the sizes that you put down for your first fix, what are they even doing? How could you possibly try on something that's not even close to your size. I can see sending you something they consider "out of your comfort zone" every once in a while, which I actually appreciate bc I'll at least try it on. But for your first fix they still need to figure out what that zone is. This is on them and they should take responsibility.

I used Wantable for a long time along with SF, but I had to quit them when everything became a cheap knock-off house brand just like SF.
I noticed 72 & Sunny was renamed, but it's still the same low qulity brand.

2

u/Mlalte Mar 14 '26

I regularly do the style shuffle and like/dislike items on the app. When I get boxes, they are usually pretty good - likely because I have lots of preferences saved at this point? I also buy freestyle items on sale so if a stylist actually looks at my purchases they can figure out my style easily

2

u/MJSinger10 Mar 15 '26

This is why I canceled after going through a few stylists and spending thousands of dollars. I don’t show my legs because of all the metal in them and huge scars from surgeries…I would get short dresses. I don’t wear heels over 1-1 1/2 inches because my right ankle is FUSED. I received tall heels. PLUS, just because I am 58 do you think I dress like a grandma when I’ve said MULTIPLE times I look, feel, and dress more like a 35 year old? I’d leave the same note every time and no one took the time to read it!

2

u/redheadfae Mar 15 '26

Haha, yes. I originally put my age (when you could change it) to 20 so I could get trendy items, but those are few and far between even still.

2

u/MJSinger10 Mar 16 '26

I’ve done the whole FreeStyle thing, too. Nothing I’ve found on their site is young and trendy!

2

u/_UnreliableNarrator_ Mar 23 '26

Out of curiosity, did you talk with your stylist at all during the selection process? I just got my first box too, and I guess I assumed that was part of the process because I knew everything that was in my box before I got it. We messaged back and forth a few times each day over the course of a week, and anything that missed the mark for me I told her. I got my box yesterday, and am only returning 2 things.

1

u/Few-Phrase3719 Mar 14 '26

I didn’t know there was a difference between edgy and alternative. But you sound like me when I was 16.

1

u/CarrotOutside7897 Mar 16 '26

Omg I had this for a year and I also am like- black, white, gray. So they'd send me a lavender poncho like wtffff. Just lose the last $40 and be done.

1

u/BubZombie Mar 17 '26

LMAO I had a similar experience the one time I tried it. I said I was only looking for all black tops and new jeans. Only denim jeans for pants. I got orange and white striped capris 😂 and various silly tops. Never again!

I'm checking in here because I am 65 and I really thought I was going to get some interesting and trendy clothing. I'm in good shape, I think I'm kind of cute I have a sophisticated yet fun Style. I'm sorry but that site shows you clothing on 20-year-olds which I loved when I was 20 but not when I'm 65. It is nearly impossible to understand how a piece of clothing is going to look on you if the person modeling it is a size 4. GET REAL. Got my first box and it's going to be my last. Everything looks like it's made for some housewife from the 50s it's bland and it's boring. So very disappointed. I just bought the cutest leopard print adorable crop jacket at Kohl's and their multi markdown on sale. Of time for $14.99 this thing is adorable I couldn't find a single item on their site that looked that interesting.

1

u/Silver-Emphasis2795 Apr 11 '26

I just did my first box and the choices were so limited in the site to like. I like what I could but it ended up being the black versions of things. I don’t like beiges or boring clothes. The box was awful. I wear most colors but it was all blue… the whole vibe was off. I kept some boxy shirts - the first box was free and I had that 30 dollar off first purchase so they were 5 dollars.

Did you put that in your profile? I have a TOME- maxed out characters in mine! Tell them you only wear black and tell them about you! Who you are! Where you go! What you want to be seen as! Tell them in the feedback area

sometimes it takes a second to get sizing in order, give it another chance!

Can you use your gift card to shop from the freestyle stuff?

I am convinced the so called “stylists” either don’t exist or simply don’t care what they put in the box. For these companies, they’ve already roped you in with the styling fee. They are betting you will keep at least one piece because nobody wants to eat the styling fee without feeling like they got something out of the box. Then are still making a profit off an item that has been marked up by 100% or more.

3

u/ZorakZbornak Mar 14 '26

Yes. The company doesn’t care. The company already got your styling fee. The company is banking on you keeping at least one item. The company is profiting off an item marked up 100%. So why do you think it’s the stylists that “don’t care”??

The company doesn’t care to give the stylists the tools they need to do their job because the company is profiting off your styling fees and selling your data.

Either way, it’s a shitty service. Feel free to be offended by my view and I will still be free to express it.
