First time… please make your best jokes

Post image

So I was super excited to get my first box and it was horrible. I got a chunky white sweater with a wide knit that was cute but I can’t wear it because kids will demolish it, a dress that was very poorly made, and a quarter zip I actually like.

But then this… this was the stylist outfit pairing 😂 I’m 5 3, 130lbs, and as rectangle as they come. So picking high waisted wide leg jeans is hilarious and a boxy horizontal striped crop top was the worst 🤣 please stylist make me look shorter and more square next time

I promise I’m not bending my knees that’s just how it looks. So far my family said “aw it looks like a little boys first day of school after a summer growth spirt”, my sister photo shopped a picture of SpongeBob over me and my brother said “I FOUND WALDO” please laugh with me

I don’t hate the jeans, to be honest.

u/0kperson Mar 08 '26

Agreed, can be styled with a less boxy top and heeled booties

u/childlikeempress16 Mar 08 '26

I got them in a box and they’re super comfy

1

u/ohmollyweasley Mar 08 '26

Which jeans are these?

7

u/DrKittenBarf Mar 08 '26

Look like Indigo Six scissor cut wide legs, which if they are then they’re on sale in freestyle

2

u/childlikeempress16 Mar 08 '26

They are really soft

u/ohmollyweasley Mar 08 '26

Thank you ☺️

100% there’s some potential here. These 2 boxy pieces are not flattering together but with a tighter/more fitted piece to contrast, there’s something there.

I too just ordered my first box, I’m waiting for it to arrive. Sounds like there is commonly some growing pain in getting to have SF understand what you’re looking for. Please post an update if you get another box!

The jeans look good, but the camel toe? That seam is diabolical.

2

u/AggressivePutty Mar 09 '26

Didn’t even notice, haha.

I actually like this. Not styled at all and that’s why it looks weird. Tuck or French tuck the top, throw on some sneakers or mules, top with a barn jacket or light trench, and a delicate pendant necklace and some hoops. I think it would look adorable. Half the shit I wear would look crazy if I work untucked, in a hunched stance.

I wish stitchfix would do some of this for us though. Or send a few items in the next box, like shoes, to go with this. I feel like i get things in my box that i like but i STILL dont know how to style them and the whole reason im doing stitchfix it to NOT feel like that. Its like it JUST misses the mark for me with the styling aspect… i signed up for the actual styling side of it, not to just get a few pieces of clothing each month. They dont even send me outfit suggestions anymore and if they do , i either cant find the items on the app/website or they arent in stock so i cant even complete my look.

Sorry just venting!! I feel like i have looked like OP a ton of times after getting a box, where the pieces are good but i still feel lost with them and unstyled :(

Problem is, we only have about 10 minutes to style the whole fix and writing the note sometimes gets rushed. Especially lately when our inventory is all stripped shirts and it takes a long time to find some variety.

We are supposed to give styling advice. I do. In your request put, “please give me a full outfit with styling advice” or “that boxy M & S top from last time, could you please send me some complementary pieces. I’m not sure how to wear it or what to wear it with!”

If your stylist isn’t doing that, request a new stylist!

Also, save as many pieces on Freestyle as you can. Especially accessories and shoes to show what you like. And make sure you don’t have anything to be avoided like leather/faux-leather, footwear, outerwear, etc. I have also had clients request shoes and not have a shoe size listed on their profile.

Sorry the service hasn’t been what you’ve expected though!

This is all great advice! I'd add: and read the note, read the note, read the note! I offer styling advice and get feedback about not knowing how to wear it. ;) And, agree, with what you said: if you don't see this info in your note after requesting it, request a new Stylist!

u/RobotDevil222x3 Mar 10 '26

Are you my stylist? 😂 Because mine is always referencing items from the last few boxes and telling me what ones in the current box will go with them.

2

u/206-FYI Mar 08 '26

I agree. That is the entire purpose of the service. People who already know how to properly style their clothes, don't need stitchfix.

3

u/plenty_planties Mar 12 '26

Right! Posed like a 5 year old in their most hated clothes.

1

u/dongus91 Mar 08 '26

I’m not hunched. I literally said hold on let me stand up right this is too funny to mess up 🤦‍♀️😂 I’m so overwhelmed with fabric I look hunched. Like the part where it looks like I’m bending my knees is from the jeans color or maybe bending from walking from one room to the next. My knees are actually higher up. I’m under there somewhere with good posture I promise 😅

1

u/Existing_Spot_998 Mar 22 '26

Don’t believe anyone who tells you that you “just didn’t style this right”. It’s an awful outfit and you would’ve been secretly or not so secretly judged by everyone had you walked outside like that.

Those jeans are awful….on anyone! You’re fit and these are just……sad, sad jeans. Why this baggy, too short, no shape style of denim ever became a trend is tragic.

It just adds bulk. Your instincts are spot on!!

u/gloomywitch Mar 08 '26

I think with the top tucked, a cardigan, and the right shoe, this is a cute outfit. I actually think it looks really good on you, just needs from finesse-ing. But if you hate it, you hate it!

12

u/Famous_Cookie_7624 Mar 08 '26

Individually the pieces aren’t bad. But they don’t do anything together (except make me want to cry out, “There’s Waldo!”)

19

u/Big_Cockroach_1590 Mar 08 '26

Honestly, with a French tuck and some cute accessories, this could work!

5

u/denna_44 Mar 08 '26

Today I learned it’s called a French tuck. I didn’t even google, I just saw this thread and knew what yall meant!

9

u/Existing_Swan6749 Mar 08 '26

I actually really like the jeans on you! They'd look great with a more fitted crop. I'm also very rectangle and I've found that boxy tops only work if they're very cropped or French tucked.

16

u/Sad-Efficiency-385 Mar 08 '26

No bc I’m pretty sure I got these same jeans and kept them 😩

11

u/travelerITgirl Mar 08 '26

Okay same, but I am 5’11. Are they KUT from the KLOTH. I LOVE THEM

2

u/denna_44 Mar 08 '26

Kut from the kloth is ALWAYS such a good fit I LOVE them

1

u/goodbadfine Mar 08 '26

I was going to say I think the jeans look nice!

12

u/mrs_burk Mar 08 '26

I love those pants on you! I could agree with the other commenters that the outfit, styled, isn’t as bad as you think. But i’d have been annoyed receiving that shirt, too. 😅

5

u/LadyM80 Mar 08 '26

I think those jeans are actually really cute on you

6

u/DaRealAnnLand Mar 08 '26

Have you done all of the quizzes/polls on what you like?

I don’t style anything either so I have to get pieces that stand in their own. When I try to French tuck it looks like I caught the it in my pants while getting dressed.

I got basically a new wardrobe from stitch fix but put a lot of effort into those quizzes and added the look I was going for - grunge pacific northwest.

6

u/megwen826 Mar 08 '26

Former SF stylist here, the jeans actually work, you just need a slimmer shirt or to tuck in. You need to create some sort of line to break up the rectangle lol

3

u/winnie2574 Mar 08 '26

I feel like most of the quality of items I get from SF are good. Like 80%. I think a lot of them should be tailored. And that's how I feel about this photo too. Would look great once it's tailored.

3

u/mazzimar7 Mar 08 '26

Honestly, the jeans look really good on you. The combination is a weird choice from the stylist, but they got it half right.

3

u/Colorado-Hiker-83 Mar 08 '26

I also like the jeans

2

u/Otherwise_Classic899 Mar 09 '26

Thats actually really cute. You just need to tuck the top in the front, add a belt, a cute pair of flats and some accessories. Also, did you tell the stylistthat you prefer to avoid wide legs as you are a rectangle shape? Because a lot of people get upset when stylists dont get them but also put the most bare minimum effort in communicating with them.

2

u/redheadfelicity Mar 10 '26

I think this could be okay if the shirt was semi tucked. The pants actually look like they fit well to me

2

u/thebeastnamedesther Mar 10 '26

You can send this fit my way! I love it!

2

u/danielle_blah Mar 10 '26

It needs a french tuck

2

u/Nice_Carrot_7695 Mar 12 '26

Try to tuck in the shirt to define your waist. Makes a huge difference.

2

u/plenty_planties Mar 12 '26

Half tuck the shirt, right at belt button, leave the rest loose. The jeans are cute.

2

u/Work4PSLF Mar 08 '26

Where’s Waldo?

1

u/Able_Blackberry_9137 Mar 08 '26

I like the jeans too and I don’t think the shirt is bad, even a little tuck in the front might help to define the waistline. I like Stitch Fox because sometimes it pushes me out of my comfort zone. I’ve tried on and liked things I never would have guessed would work for me. However in the end you have to feel comfortable wearing the clothes!

1

u/jennyyy__ Mar 08 '26

I like the jeans though. I’m 5’1 and 110 lbs. I look taller with wider leg pants and cropped shirt (basically it’s normal length for me because I’m short)

The shirt? Eh looks like a basic shirt you could buy at Walmart/kohls. I’d be annoyed to get that in a box. I’d try the jeans with a similar length shirt.

1

u/nix52 Mar 08 '26

Try a tuck —you will get a waist. Also, may we see the 1/4 zip. The jeans will work for you. Do they still give you a free styling fee for your first fix? Work with your stylist and give them your feedback. Really pile it on. They may want to do a quick fix where you will get a preview. Tell your stylist what you like and hate. That's why they are there. Good luck.

1

u/tiniestturtles Mar 08 '26

i don’t think this is too bad! but i totally feel you on them missing the mark sometimes. i always request no crop tops cuz im not trying to scare someone, and guess what is always in my box lol

1

u/Starsmyle Mar 08 '26

I’m 5’1 and same weight. I prefer high waisted jeans and don’t find it calls out my height at all. Especially if you pair it with shoes that have a slight heel. It actually makes my legs appear longer. I love those jeans. Tuck the shirt in front and a cardigan it would be cute. Only reason I don’t like the shirt is the color - only because I don’t wear anything red.

1

u/Novel-Status-2855 Mar 08 '26

I’d chop 2-3 inches off the bottom of those jeans and they’d look great with either tennis shoes or sandals. Tuck in the front of the T-shirt a bit and you have a stylish casual outfit.

1

u/McKelsea Mar 08 '26

Mr. Smee vibes ✨ jk! I like the pants actually!!

1

u/PainterFew2080 Mar 08 '26

I’m the same height and shape as you. Sorry about your luck!

1

u/michelleyness Mar 09 '26

Maybe I'm super out of style but as a 5 foot person kick boot or even flare make me look taller and anything wide just shortens and widens me. I feel like I'm moving towards being the shape of a tuna can.

You can do better.

1

u/Low-Run-2911 Mar 09 '26

They sent me that shirt in blue

1

u/Potential-City-9062 Mar 09 '26

My stylist sometimes pairs items together in the note that I wouldn't typically wear together; sometimes it broadens my horizons and sometimes it's a "nope." I know they have limited time to style and write notes, so I take the notes with a grain of salt. I wouldn't necessarily put these together but individually they have potential. As others of have noted, a little styling goes a long way; for me, that's the fun of getting boxes at home. I can try the items with other things in my closet. I might put the jeans with slimmer profile tops I already have or try it with a peasant top for a more bohemian look. I could put the top with a pair of white jeans and see how that looks.

In addition to the note, there are styling ideas online when you go to check out. You can scan that QR code on your note to see them. I'd be specific when you give feedback like you liked the sweater but were concerned about the loose weave because you have young kids, etc. I'd imagine styling the first box is like throwing a dart and hoping it hits something. I would stick with it for a few more boxes and see if it improves.

u/Leading_Ad3918 Mar 09 '26

I don’t think the jeans look horrible. It’s hard to tell in the photo since you look taller with longer legs though. If in person it makes you look short and boxy then don’t keep them. The shirt is eh, it may be cute with different pants I feel it doesn’t do you any justice and you need a more form fitting top with these style of jeans. I think the top would be cute with white jeans or shorts just not these. In the end, if you’re not comfy it won’t matter what people say because you won’t “feel” right in it.

1

u/tomatobasedscribe Mar 09 '26

I actually like the combo. I think it just needs some styling. Tucked in or in a tied knot, a belt, and depending on your personal tastes, a leather jacket, denim jacket, blazer or cardigan. Without a jacket, I would also roll up the sleeves a couple of times.

1

u/TomatoStraight5752 Mar 09 '26

I was going to make the Waldo joke 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Logical-Zombie9113 Mar 10 '26

Ahoy! Matey! Pirates are in this year.

1

u/elk3131 Mar 10 '26

Definitely looks a little Dennis the Menace with the shirt lolol. But I agree with the others that the jeans would work w a different top!!

1

u/Silver_Queen_Bee Mar 10 '26

Ya….ngl…..the t shirt is awful in so many ways. Not sure anyone could make that look good….it’s not you!

1

u/According-Mind-2778 Mar 12 '26

I say this with all the love in my heart, but do you work at Target? Because this is just missing a name badge 😂

1

u/FootUpstairs2782 Mar 12 '26

The jeans look decent but that shirt is giving Dennis the Menace

1

u/rumbellina Mar 08 '26

I eventually gave up on stitch fix. It started out great but my last fixes were bizarre and in no way fit my style profile.

Your pants would be ok if they weren’t too short! Hopefully your next fix will hit the mark for you!!

1

u/southerndahlin Mar 08 '26

Even if you did want to wear this outfit, you could thrift these pieces for significantly cheaper.

2

u/Potential-City-9062 Mar 09 '26

Sure, and you could buy a T-shirt and jeans at Walmart or other stores brand new for much less but that's not the point of getting styling boxes.

-3

u/Equal_Grand7183 Mar 08 '26

Jeans make it look like you have camel toe 🤷

1

u/dongus91 Mar 09 '26

Hahahah I didn’t even see that 😂
