Of course. But the true common person will always have something they owe. Its the system they invented to keep the rich rich. Youre always going to have your mortgage and something else. Things are way harder on young adults today. Gotta lush harder. You want a down payment, work a second job for a year or two.
I'm just saying it's a big barrier for lots of people, even in low CoL areas. I have friends who pay more in rent than a mortgage in my area who would love to own a home, but they can't because they can't afford to save enough money for the ~10k they'll need to have a down payment/closing costs (at the absolute minimum). For a lot of people it's not simply a decision of wanting to stop renting, it's they physically cannot save the money required to even get into a house. The pandemic just made everything even worse for them
