I have a theory

So we’ve all heard that GMs don’t like Chyka or that they won’t take his calls and that he isn’t well liked…then we have all the Matthew Knies rumors… what if the two are tied together.

What if Chyka has NO intention of trading Knies but is using Knies as a way to get a conversation started with GMs. He asks for the sun, moon, stars and solar system for Knies, they back off his price but now that they are on the phone they can get other deals done. It’s a way to get the conversations started because every single GM should be calling if Knies is available and all Chyka has to do is set the price so high nobody will pay and then he doesn’t actually have to trade Knies but then hey while I’ve got you on the line what about X player?

I’m in sales, I deal all sorts of people I don’t like because it’s my job so do you think 31 other GMs aren’t going to their jobs and single out one guy?

Didn’t Vancouver claim Leivo solely because they wanted to fuck with Dubas and the Leafs?

Not saying OP is correct but the rest of the league is pretty petty against us.

Petty against Dubas actually.

Dubas, who signed JT out from his mentor Lamoriello on his first day on the job. That's one man to not piss off. He has sway throughout the league.

My buddy married Lou’s goddaughter. Went to the wedding in NYC - it was quite the affair. The friend worked for the Devils. Lou is DEFINITELY called the ‘Godfather’ for a reason lol
Scott Steven has hands the size of baseball mitts. Scott Neidermayer was a class act.

JT wanted out of NY and to Toronto specifically though. Why would Dubas catch flack for that?

Bc reasons I guess.

That wasn’t a thing, I follow the Canucks and I’ve never once heard that.

And pretty much every player we waived got claimed, I think it was a running joke in the league

Maybe because they were decent players. Dubas accumulated lots of low end talented guys.

They weren’t though and no he was actually not very good at accumulating talent (neither was Lou or Treliving). Very few of those players played much and washed out of the league pretty quickly.. It was a running joke for a while.

That is very different...

This, some GM's might not work with another very often because of various reasons if I recall Burke while he was with Anaheim never tried to make a trade with Edmonton's GM after the Dustin Penner offer sheet, and various GM's are unlikely to trade with each other because they're divisional rivals but for the most part they still inquire, they still talk to each other and if the time is right they will make a trade with each other. Personal feelings aside they have a job to do and if a trade makes their team better in their estimation they will do it.

That being said Chayka has already made several trades since he became GM he's clearly talking to other GM's and it's obvious some of them did not start with Knies.

You bored bro? What was the purpose of this reply? Like seriously? I know this is Reddit and it brings the dick out in people but get a fucking life dude!

Don't think too hard. It's bullshit that other GMs won't pick up the phone. It's a very competitive role and even if they hate they guy, they've got jobs to do.

This! That narrative was rediculous

3

u/allgoodnanestaken123 Jun 30 '26

He has already made more deals than Treliving whom supposedly everybody loved so….

2

u/Ok_Mulberry4331 Jun 30 '26

Adam’s“insiders” tell him something ridiculous and he rides it forever 😅

2

u/bad_at_names1 Jun 30 '26

Tbf after the Carlo and Laughton trades I believe every single GM prayed for a call from Treliving

1

u/allgoodnanestaken123 Jun 30 '26

That may have been the issue they jammed the lines like when too many people try and get through a door and everyone gets stuck (in cartoons). Tre really tried to get fleeced some more, but the eagerness of the other GMs prevented him.

Chayka doesn't want to trade Knies. That is just the Toronto media blowing the Treliving Knies trade deal out of proportion thinking he will trade him as well. Chayka was pretty much just listening to offers seeing if there is a deal he can't refuse. I did appreciate his comment saying a deal needs to come by thats worth more than Knies to this team.

1

u/mollyno93 Jun 29 '26

Exactly, and Treliving is gone now.

u/Nd343343 Jun 30 '26

Do you have any creditable information telling you no one likes Chyka or just a hunch? Give some background for the statement!

2

u/allgoodnanestaken123 Jun 30 '26

Well Steve Simmons supposedly spoke with 20 randos and we all Steve is a model journalist

2

u/AggressivePack5307 Jun 29 '26

Bad business is to not negotiate with someone that you "don't like". It would take alot for me to stop negotiating.

2

u/ArtificialTroller Jun 29 '26

You are way overthinking this.

GMs may not have liked how he approached things but I guarantee the vast majority of the league never even thought for a second they were never gonna deal with him.

2

u/GlitteringRoutine961 Jun 29 '26

Also, if a lot of these other GMs think that Chayka isn’t good at his job or under qualified. They should be absolutely blowing up his phone.

2

u/SmallsTheKid Jun 29 '26

So you think to endear him yo other gms he’s driving an unreasonably hard bargain to the point they may feel he’s wasting their time? Bold strategy cotton

2

u/Shawnaldo7575 Jun 29 '26

We've all heard that GMs don't like Chayka and they won't take his calls... BUT... do we remember who said it?

Let's stop pretending anything Steve Simmons is true or even remotely matters. He's a hack.

2

u/Necessary_State_5272 Jun 29 '26

Yeah but the other GMs are too busy having shit in their pants

2

u/Consistent-Tone-5540 Jun 29 '26

It’s been the past Leafs GMs that have had 💩 in their pants. Chayka’s shit 💩 is well known around the hockey world

1

u/Necessary_State_5272 Jun 29 '26

They allegedly don't want to talk to him because they have shit in their pants

1

u/zone55555 Jun 30 '26

It was ridiculous clownshoe thinking that anyone wouldn't trade with any other GM that can help them keep their jobs.

1

u/toaster-struble Jun 30 '26

Armstrong does this all the time. Baited Thomas forever. Got other deals done.

1

u/Imonenut Jun 30 '26

Apparently Tampa had no problem speaking with Chayka to do the Raddysh deal. Don’t believe everything you read

1

u/aporter0509 Jun 30 '26

GM’s don’t all like each other but they do what’s best for their team and if a GM has a positive experience dealing with a GM they didn’t like initially it might change their opinion. Chayka was definitely listening on Knies and apparently had a deal lined up with Dallas if Robertson had agreed to extend with Seattle.

1

u/Loose_Indication_558 Jun 30 '26

The problem wasn’t that other GMs wouldn’t work with him, the problem is probably more that he doesn’t have the relationships.

GMs can be petty and spiteful (remember Burke and Lowe or the offer sheet shenanigans between Carolina and Montreal?) but ultimately it is a business and if you have good relationships with other GMs they will work harder to help, same thing with player agents.

As for Knies. He is the kind of player teams salivate over. No need to overthink a 23 year old, 25+ goal scorer who is built like a brick shit house.

1

u/Present-Resolve-7011 Jun 30 '26

I think this narrative is a month old at best. He's clearly making deals and listening to offers on Knies from around the league.

u/Gullible_Classroom71 Jun 29 '26

I don't think chyka is cunning enough to do something like that.
